Apogee JAM - A Fantastic Device

I bought this unit, plugged it in - it worked perfectly right off the bat. No drivers to install. I could not have asked for a better result. I highly recommend the Apogee JAM. It is however a little pricey — but as they say — you get what you pay for.

It's true it works great right out of the box. The first time I used it I had so much fun I didn't even realize I had been playing it for over 2 hours. I can finaly play my electric guitar in my house again. This lets me play like I am kickin my amp up full volume, and not disturb anyone .
    I LOVE IT !!!

Just upgraded to the Apogee Jam and have been loving it. So far I have used it with Ampkit and GarageBand and it works seamlessly. Easy setup and easy to use. Would recommend to any guitar player looking for mobility or the ability to mess around with different setups.

I just got this today, and I can already tell it is a brilliant product. It worked right out-of-the-box, with only a little bit of fiddling. The only gripe I have isn't really with the Jam, it's with GarageBand. I feel like GarageBand should have a button or switch that turns the input on, or off. As it is, I have to exit the app and re-enter until the light on the jam turns green. Not a big problem, just a thought.
Overall great device! I would recommend it to anyone.

For the price you'd expect to get a quality product, and the Jam is no exception. The sound quality is pristine, the device is very well built and it's versatile as well (works with Macs and iPhones/iPads). I also like the fact that it uses a cable to connect. The only downside I've stumbled upon is that the Jam is a bit too light, but that's not really a huge problem since it comes with a bit of velcro. I've used the Apogee Jam with an iPhone 4s and a mid-2009 MacBook Pro, and I haven't had any latency or noise issues whatsoever.

Great professional grade product using digital input

Be wary if you have an iPad 3 or 4 or an iPhone 5 as the 30 pin Apple connector will not fit. I use mine on my iPad 2 and it works so well I travel with it all the time. Heaps smaller than a small practice amp and every tone you could ever want. Also allows to record direct and then mix and match. It is powered by the i device and has a coloured LED to assist setting the gain of the device so you do not run into digital distortion problems. The only way this could be improved would be if it plugged into my iPhone 5 without using the expensive Apple adapter which basically adds $30 to the price if you wish to use it on the lightning connected i devices. I use Ampkit for the software, (available from the app store) and the final result is awesome. Alternatively you can use Garage Band if you already have it.

    Brilliant Apogee Jam

I bought the Apogee JAM to be able to plug my Fender Stratocaster in and use Garage Band. It is absolutely fabulous and well worth the money. There is no latency experience in my set-up. I use it with my iMAC, my iPhone 5, and my iPAD with Retina Display (classed as the New iPad). Contrary to other reviews, it also works perfectly with the free iRig Apps on both my iPad and iPhone. I could not have made a better purchase without upgrading to a more expensive professional set-up.

I first bought the Peavey Ampkit Link and I was not impressed because it is very noisy. I have just received the Jam and it is way superior. I use it with the Amkit App for iPad (which I recommend). With the Jam, the sound is so clean; no need for a Noise Gate. It does not require batteries. The light that tells you whether your input is too high makes setting it up very easy. It feels more sturdy too. It is more expensive but you get what you pay for. No doubt why Apple sells it and recommends it.

I have a Apogee Duet on my IMac and I just love it so when it came time to get something for my iPad and iPhone the JAM was preferred product. I am stunned by the sound quality! The one thing that really impressed me about the idea of recording to my IDevice was that there is no buzz, no 60 cycle hum! I have a stock 1972 Telecast Thinline with 40 year old wiring and it has never sounded so clean. Apogee has impressed me once again with we'll built great sounding product!

    Works great on Mac too

I'm using this with Garageband and Logic Pro on an iMac. Works very well indeed, no delay on my system. I'm using this with various active bass guitars and the quality is excellent. I'm tracking basslines into multitrack recordings and them sending them off for mixdowns, so even if my ability was poor enough to not notice a delay, others would! I haven't tried it on my iPad yet, but just wanted to make sure that with GB/Logic on a Core i7 iMac, it's working very well indeed.

Originally I purchased an iRig with my new guitar and my New iPad. Problems matched those discussed in the Apple Support Community. I was able return the iRig and got the Jam. Excellent choice. Worth the difference in price.

    Outstanding Interface

I have used this interface for both Guitars and Bass Guitars. It's got fantastic sound far superior than interfaces I've used in the past. On the negative side, it does not have direct hardware play through. However, performance with a modern Mac should make this less of an issue and a nonissue for most...

iPhone + Apoogee JAM = Guitar Heaven

I can't believe I have waited so long to get one of these. I love it. I can plug my guitar into my ipad or iphone and put my headphones on and go mad without annoying anyone. Now I can play without the wife yelling at me to turn that noise off !!

It's so easy, just plug and play. Thank you Apogee for allowing me to re-discover the joy of playing my guitar again :-)

iPad2 or iMac, effortless connection and really amazing sound quality through a good set of headphones. I must admit I was expecting run of the mill, noisy sound. Not so. A very pleasant surprise.

I had my eye on this for a while, but was always turned off by the price. I tried homemade connectors, and the iRig, and even plugging the audio out from my amp into my Mac, but everything i tried gave so much noise, it was unbearable to play. So i finally caved and bought this, and wow! the quality is amazing! there is absolutely no noise, no interference, and the tone is so crisp and beautiful, i can't tell the difference between this with a Mac and decent speakers and my 15W Vox Valvetronix Amp. I used it on the iPad too, and this plus gargeband for the iPad is just a joy to play, i can take my guitar anywhere without having to lug an amp around, and those 2W mini-amps are lousy quality, and noise-ridden and the iPad is almost as loud. It works great with Logic Pro on the Mac, my main software and of course garageband

    Would highly recommend 10/10

    Outrageous - Incompatible with iPad2 / GarageBand

    • Written by from Bethesda

I simply can't believe Apogee nor Apple does not have the brainpower to solve this problem. Like apparently many other buyers, I have an iPad2, updated to latest iOS version 5.1, brand new JAM with Firmware revision listed as 1.5.0 and Hardware Revision listed as 2.0.0. GarageBand on iPad2 is version 1.2.

Same problem as many others...green light is on the Jam device but no light from GarageBand monitor on my iPad2 showing connectivity.

HOW CAN NEITHER SIDE STEP UP TO THE PLATE? arrrrrgggghhhhh.

This is a problem that should have been fixed months ago. Where's the software upgrade that will let us use the darn device properly?

    Anyone else severely frustrated????
