  • Definitely a Fantastic Mic - but be forwarned

    4.0 out of 5 stars

The sound of this mic is awesome. Balanced, and just over all pleasing. There are a couple things to note though. It does not co me with a case and I cannot find one for purchase from blue. So carting this thing around is not a good idea.

The other issue is the level control. The digital in and out takes some tweaking. For instance on my mac I have to go into the audio midi controls every time I use it and adjust the volume for the output there. The knob on the front of the mic is buggy and inaccurate. Don't let this persuade you to buy a different mic though. It is easily dealt with by using the audio control panel on your computer.

The final thing is either great or not so great depending on what you're doing. The mic is sensitive. If you running an AC, a TV downstairs, have birds chirping outside, heavy breathing, hard drives humming, anything at all... IT WILL PICK IT UP. If used for basic podcasting it's fantastic but if you want to record serious tracks with it you better get somewhere quiet.

Overall this mic has been wonderful and easy to use. The 192k out makes a huge difference when listening back to your Itunes or recorded stuff.

  • Wonderful MIC! A real "studio-in-a-box"!

    5.0 out of 5 stars

I bought this MIC off the online Apple Store and first I was pleased to see it arriving so fast (3 business days) with free shippi ng! For $249, it is cheap compared to what you would need to buy.

Once you install the driver, it works instantly! A little downside of the driver is that you have to go download it off the Blue Website (they should include it on a CD). Esthetically, it looks FANTASTIC on your desk. The conception is really sturdy and solid (weight is there to prove it).

Now the sound! It sounds GREAT. A big problem I've had in the past with recording on a computer was having to remove the HISS in the back of the audio with the audio editing software. With this MIC you sound flat without any noise. This is a really sensitive microphone, so it's picking up EVERYTHING, so your studio must be quiet. You could use a portable soundproof chamber to help out.

Finally, it is a great piece of sound equipement for the SEMI-PRO day-to-day applications.

  • Didn't like it first, but love it now.

I got this for a birthday present a month ago and I can now say I LOVE the product. I still have yet to get the shock mount shown in the pics to get a better angle. So you ask why I love it...well it's the highest quality mic for it's price I've ever heard! You can record absolutely anything you want on it and it handles vocals quite well. It's exactly what I wanted for the dual XLR and USB connections. Be sure when you order to get 2 regular XLR cables as the provided one is about 6 inches long so a joke. Also, be careful when you first plug into XLR to turn the gain all the way down as I made the mistake of shaking the whole house when I didn't, haha. Overall, amazing mic, worth the price.

  • Be careful, Windows users!

    2.0 out of 5 stars

Despite the advertising on the box and website, this microphone does not work at all on my windows machine. This is due to the fa ct that windows cannot interface with this microphone at the same time that it interfaces with sound playback, even though that is required in order to use the microphone. In order to effectively utilize this piece of hardware, I have to export the sample I want to record over into a 24-bit format, move it over from my PC to my MacBook Air, and record through GarageBand.

The sound quality is great though.

Answers from the community

  • why is it not THX certified?

    • Asked by Traci A from Fairview
    • 13/01/2012

    Answer

According to Blue Microphones THX is not certifying any microphones in alte 2011 2012 time frame and phasing out the THX logo usage on microphones. Blue Microphones states that Yeti Por has same or better specs than Yeti with THX logo just that THX no longer offers THX logo licensing etc for microphones. You will find similar info if yoiu do a Google search for Yeti Por microphone. I have one and am just getting started using it for podcast and screencasting. I plan to test it with iPad to see if it works.

There are videos all over You Tube and the Net that show people using an Apple camera USB adaptor an d the Yeti without any issue. I plan to try it myself.

I notice another people has posted an "absolutely not" reply. I'm not sure why that is. Has he tried to connect and failed? Also if he did, was it an Apple USB adaptor or another brand? I know when the update came for the iPad, some third-party USB connectors failed to operate. Not so with the Apple branded product.

Maybe people should not assume things don't work until they try them. The hundreds of videos I've found on the iPad and Yeti make it clear that you can connect and record with very good quality.

It should. All you would need to do it plug in the USB then open Garage band and change your input c lose and reopen then it should work.
