Love the design but color bleeds

    • Written by from Alexandria

Bought a red case with the white iPad. Very disappointed to see that the dye from the inside cover is bleeding onto the white borders of the iPad.

It's a smart cover but not stand.

The cover is very nice. It can be a smart cover but it doesn't work as a stand.

Looks great but doesn't function well

    • Written by from Bridgeport

I love the color and this is clearly a well made product. However, it will not stay when folded over for typing or watching. It falls flat. The useless panels also cause the cover not to lay flat against the top of the iPad when closed. If you want a case that is just a case, not to be used as a stand or prop, look no further. If you want a case that also functions as a stand, look elsewhere.

Great for Protection but Flimsy as a Stand

    • Written by from Wilmington

I love everything about the iPad Air Smart Case EXCEPT THE THREE SECTION STAND IS AWFUL!!! No matter how I prop up the trifold cover, it falls over once I start using the touchscreen. I have to hold the top of the iPad with one hand while I maneuver the screen with the other NO MATTER WHERE I USE IT!

    So-So Case

    • Written by from Kansas City

I expected more of this case for $80. Build quality of my case is very good. I love the feel of the leather over the polyurethane. My iPad Air fits securely and provides excellent protection for the back. However, the front cover pops up by the hinge which annoys me to no end. Also, the stand is flimsier than I would like. You have to carefully fold the cover to ensure it does not collapse. In my opinion, it is worth half the money I paid for it.

    Not so bad

    • Written by from Maidstone

This case seems to be getting a bit of an unfair rap; it's not THAT bad.

It's primary function is to protect the iPad. £65 for a new case or (in my case) £739 for a new iPad. It's a no brainer.

The case fully covers the iPad while allowing access to all ports and, importantly, maintaining the slim profile without adding any bulk. That seems to be the whole point of this case and, if that's what you want, then this case does the job quite well.

Sure, it has it's down points. The screen cover near the hinge with the back case doesn't sit firmly atop the screen which will annoy some. I would hate to drop my iPad from anything higher then three feet onto anything less than a deep pile carpet or a mattress - I don't think it offers much in the way of impact protection. Also, when standing it's not always the most stable; if watching a movie while flying, my iPad has fallen into my lap during mild turbulence. However, it's fine when perched on a desk in the office or at home.

Personally, I like the case and consider it money well spent. If it was 75% of its asking price, I would have given it four stars; it is a bit on the expensive side.

There are more sturdy cases out there that will offer more viewing angles, are less likely to flip over when standing up and will provide much better impact protection but the compromise is that they will add about 50% onto the weight of the iPad and make it twice as thick. To me at least, that defeats the purpose of the iPad Air.

It's horses for courses; much depends on exactly what you want your case to do. If you want reasonable protection without adding bulk and weight, this case will do you fine I'd avoid the red though as mine has got grubby quite quickly.

In summary, if I could turn the clock back, I'd buy the same case but in black.

Good feel but not accessories friendly

    • Written by from Singapore

Received the red leather case and tried it out, love the feel and it holds pretty well both horizontally and vertically.

However, I chose to return it because the case only allows it to be used for lightning pin , not allowing any adaptors such as 30pin to lightning pin adaptor to be used with the size of the hole being too small for the case.

Recommend to enlarge the opening at the bottom to cater for other charging accessories since customers do not mind paying a higher price for such leather case, Removing some material to enlarge the size if the hole makes it more environmental friendly using less material.

    Better than reviews say

    • Written by from stoke-on-trent

Been to the apple shop today who showed me the red smart case, I'm glad I went because the reviews so far slatted it. After looking at one with my ipad in the stability it quite good the back case fits beautifully and the colour is very vibrant . The only thing I would say is the left had side does not close completely but I think this will once it has been used. The price is steep but it looks fantastic and apple know what they are doing. I would give it three and a half stars as when you fold the front cover back it is a bit tricky to make the triangle compared to the older generation cases.

The build quality is EXCELLENT, but ... .

The design of the cover -- the change from four panels of the old Smart Cover to three panels -- is awful. It's not sturdy, won't stay in place and easily collapses when any pressure is put on the iPad.

C'mon, Apple. Release a Smart Cover with a four-panel cover ... Admit your mistake. I'll plunk down 69 bucks for a redesigned case.

    Not "The Case"

    • Written by from Milton

The manufacturing quality is extremely good! The engineering is NOT! The Case is very light weight, doesn't add much bulk and fits very well. However, the buttons are very hard to use thru the case, the screen cover itself is very thin and not sturdy feeling in the slightest. The magnet on the edge barely holds it but together when as a stand or down when it is a screen cover. The leather hinge is very rigid and doesn't allow the cover to touch the screen fully (this may break-in over time). The speaker holes were not a problem, actually this cover may enhance the low range sounds. Over all, I'm returning the cover and purchasing the Smart COVER instead. For the $79.00 this should be better Apple, no excuses!
