I found the solution for "Mode not supported"

    • Written by from Massillon

If you get the "Mode not supported" message when you try to hook up this adapter and HDMI cable to your TV, don't panic! After Crutchfield (where I bought my TV) assured me that it SHOULD work, I did some experimenting and found the solution! There are four HDMI jacks on the back of my TV, but only one of them says HDMI/DVI. I have no idea what that means, but that's the jack that works! So it makes sense now that the reviews here and on Amazon are a mixture of "Works great" and "Doesn't work!" If you happen to plug it into the right jack it does work beautifully. If you just put it in a regular HDMI jack, no good. So give that a try. I hope it works!

    Useless

    • Written by from RESERVOIR

No HD. Doesn't full screen to TV. Won't work with 90% of my apps (especially streaming video apps). Expensive. Should have just paid $20 more for an Apple TV, at least I'd get a bit more use out of it.

    Works great for Amazon Prime

    • Written by from Westminster

We bought this for watching Amazon Prime videos that we couldn't watch with Apple TV. The price we paid is well worth not having to crowd around the iPad mini! We haven't tried other apps, but it seems to mirror what is on the iPad.

Waste of Money! Does not Work!

    • Written by from Salem

I would give this zero stars if I could. I hooked my ipad air up to my brother's television (he has Direct TV) with the lightning digital av adapter and couldn't get past a message stating that due to an agreement with other cable and satellite providers I could only watch videos or anything else on my mobile device. So if you are interested in using your Xfinity to Go app to watch tv away from home on anything but your ipad or iphone, forget it.
A lot of money wasted on an expensive gadget that does nothing.

Seriously over priced - Apple TV much better solution

    • Written by from Salisbury

I tried a friend's adapter, but just could not justify spending 3x what it is actually worth to me. In the end I bought Apple TV which gave me all the functionality including BBC iPlayer plus a lot more, for not much more than the cost of the adapter. It is better to be able to connect wirelessly, without the hassle of cables and my experience of Apple lightning cables is that they don't last that long.

    Disappointed

    • Written by from Derby

I bought this so I could watch BT sport from my iPad on to my TV. Unfortunately it mirrors a picture that is only half the size of the TV screen i.e.picture in the centre of the TV. At a cost of £40 I want more than that. Plan to take back and get a refund.

I bought this on July 18 of this year & did not open it & use until August 1st. It worked well for a short amount of time & now suddenly it does not work. It has the quality of a dollar store charger. For the price it's a real rip off for something that lasted less than 2 weeks long.

Got it because new MacBook Pro display died. Does the job but a pity that the video can't be mirrored but only displayed on the TV. Can't fault it otherwise.

Works Well Depending On Your Apple Device

    • Written by from Eastvale

While I agree that it is slightly overpriced (most Apple accessories are) it works extremely well depending on your Apple device. I highly recommend clicking on the device you have on the bottom of Lightning Digital AV Adapter main store page and look at the video output in the tech specs section before purchasing. What you see there is the max you'll get. The iPhone 5s, 5c, and the iPad Air all say "Video mirroring and video out support: Up to 1080p through Lightning Digital AV Adapter and Lightning to VGA Adapter (adapters sold separately)"
It's a must for streaming online video to a TV as trying to alternatively "double stream" from the internet to an Apple TV usually has great lag. I've had no problems on these devices and the quality has been great! If your TV or upscales it's even better.

Stopped working after less than a dozen uses

    • Written by from Cambridge

I got less than a dozen uses out of the Lightning Digital AV Adapter before it quit working. As an apple user since the mid-80s, all I can say is this is yet another example of the demise of Apple quality. Well it was marvelous while it lasted!

Worse Than My First Betamax Player In 1982!

    • Written by from Kettering

I bought this adaptor cable - which, at £40 works out at £10 per inch - in order to watch TV and flms streamed over the Net from Amazon Prime Instant Video via my iPad Retina through a Yamaha RX-V671 A/V decoder on to my LG HDTV. I had been trying to use my laptop but in both Chrome and Mozilla there was continuous buffering and stuttering. Before purchasing, I checked with Apple and Amazon who both stated the product would work in 1080p with surround sound. Well, the picture displayed on the screen when "browsing" is reasonably High Def but only in a reduced-size 4:3 ratio in the centre of the TV. However, once you select a programme through the Amazon Prime App and hit "play", the screen expands to 16:9 but with all the definition of a muddy puddle. All movement becomes just a confusion of pixels which, on my 47" screen, are at least quarter of an inch square. Basically, it's unwatchable. So, switch to Safari instead of the Amazon app - no difference except now we are back to continuous buffering again. With a 14Mb/s internet speed I should be getting good quality video - instead I feel like I have been transported back 30 years to the foggy dawn of Betamax accompanied by the cat sitting on the "Pause" button on the remote every 10 seconds. This really is marketing at it's most cynical. This is 2014, this is not rocket science, but I feel thoroughly cheated.

Brought new life to our TV

    • Written by from Madison

Simple product, and does exactly what it says - streams 1080p from our iPad Air. We connected immediately to our 6 year old Vizio TV and haven't had an issue after 2 months of use. We streamed the entire World Cup in HD from our iPad, and we've just started a Netflix account. This has brought life back to our TV since we don't have cable. I'm not sure what all the poor reviews are about. Research your device to see what resolution you'll get. $50 is pricey, but when compared to a cable package? Come on.

Reminder: at this point, iPads put out 4:3 ratio. This means when directly mirroring your iPad home screen, your HDTV will be seriously cropped on all sides. However, when streaming video formats the iPad recognizes (Netflix, World Cup from Univision, etc.) the iPad outputs full 16:9 ratio, filling your screen in HD. You want one of these!

This adapter works very well, it does mirror what's on the screen of my 5s as well as my iPad Air. I think it's a bit overpriced, but an alright item. I think for the price, an HDMI cord, and / or an AC adapter should be included in the current price.

    Works for a while

    • Written by from Vallejo

I bought this for use in my car with the AppRadio 3. The quality and connection was great at first, now a month or so later the contact is way sensitive. When driving over a bump or moving my iPod at all creates static or disconnection. If using in a car with constant movement I do not recommend this.
