    Too expensive

    • Written by from Matteson

I bought this cable for my IPad Air in January 2014. It is now September 2014 and the cable is already frayed and worn. For $40, you would think Apple could make this cable more durable. Apple makes great products, but when you need parts, it's highway robbery. I tried buying a cable that was supposedly approved by Apple for my IPad, however, it didn't work properly. Needless to say, I had to rely on genuine Apple products. I gave this product two stars because it didn't last a good year.

    Stopped Working

    • Written by from Linden

I have been using the long lightning to 30-pin adapter (0.2m) to connect to my Belkin 30-pin Tune-cast in my car. I also use a lightning to usb adapter to charge my iPhone in my car. The lightning to 30-pin adapter (0.2m) shows signs of green oxidation on the lightning end and has stopped working. The lightning to usb adapter in my car works great and shows no sign of green oxidation. My wife uses a short lightning to 30-pin adapter and has also shown no signs of green oxidation. Not sure if the materials or quality of manufacturing are different between different adapter lines or date of manufacturing?

My Audi iPod adapter won't recognize this adapter! Overprice and not work!

    • Written by from Bethlehem

I had the smaller type adapter since I got my iPhone 5 around two yeas ago. That adapter works with my car but the design is terrible. I finally get around and decide to buy this one, guest what, it only charge but not working, no control from my RNS-E. So 2 stars for not fully functioning.

    Works with Alesis IO Dock

    • Written by from South Ockendon

I bought this to connect my Alesis IO dock to the ipad Air, enabling charging and music pass-through (including midi).

The cable seems to work fine but 20cm is too short to be practical in many instances. The price is frankly, outrageous.

Half works on 2007 Audi with RNS-E iPod connection

    • Written by from London

Was hoping this would work where all other converters have failed.
Joy! - it did connect and I can play music through the Audi stereo, but unfortunately it won't charge.

    Doesn't work with Infiniti Nav

When connecting my iPhone 5S to my 2008 G35 30-pin adapter, the phone continuously connects and disconnects. It seems to work okay with Apple 30-pin products.

30 pin to lightning adapter does not carry power to device

    • Written by from San Jose

I have an a system for connecting radio to ipod via 30 pin connector. This works great with my ipod. Both power and audio are transmitted through the connector. When I use a lightning to 30 pin adapter it and connect it to my iphone 5 it transmits only the audio and not the power. It is also too think to use easily with my otter case.

Does not work with iPad Air Smart Case

    • Written by from Irvine

I purchased this 30-pin adapter as I have a few after market products which still use the 30pin connector. The smaller 30-pin adapter does not work with cases, so I thought this one would work. I purchased the Apple product thinking it would work with Apple Smart Cases, but it does NOT. Thankfully I can still use this with my iPhone 5s, but to use it with my iPad Air in a Smart Case I have to remove the iPad from the case as the lightning connector shell is too big. For as much as you pay for this adapter you'd think they'd let you know it doesn't work with their own products.

    Too big, Too $$

    • Written by from Humble

The lightning end is too big to work with any case. It is larger then the Apple lightning to USB cable (why on earth would it not be the same size). It is clear that this was not tested with cases. It is also seems expensive for what it is.

Once my case was off my iphone 5s, it did work.

    Too large

    • Written by from Sydenham

The lightning end plastic part is significantly larger than the same end on the lightning sync cable. For me this is a problem because the case i use for the new ipad air has a much smaller opening for the cable than did my iphone 5 case. The charge sync cable fits fine because the plastic part is about half the size but the adapter can not fit through the opening in my case. I'm using the new zagg folio keys case which has an opening of 1 cm by -.5 cm.

Massive rip off but it works

    • Written by from Leeds

Bought this connect my phone to a VW car stereo with MDI cable. Works as it should and sound quality is great.

One thing to note the plastic surrounding the tip of the cable is thicker than the usb cable supplied with a 5S. This meant I had to modify the end of the cable in order for it to slot into my phone while in an Element case.

    Very disappointed with adapter solutions...

    • Written by from Montreal

The new lightning connector would be great if Apple actually created some useful adapters and cabling. I need to adapt an iPhone 5 and iPod (5th Generation) for a speaker dock less than a year old...what a nightmare. The 30-pin adapter extends my iPhone and iPod so high that they are very unstable. The 30-pin 0.2m cable is so rigid and short that the iPhone and iPad will not lie flat. For god sakes, give us a cable longer than 8 inches. I'm really disappointed that I'm having to search out scarce and less than elegant 3rd party solutions. This is just like the new Thunderbolt connector on my new iMac...all hype, few products supporting it, and of course way overpriced.

    Stopped working for no reason

    • Written by from Exton

I have this adapter and the smaller l(square with no cord) adapters. The adapter with the cord suddenly died and no longer charges the phone. Its kept in a drawer and I only use when needed' so there should be no reason why it stopped working. I have tried it with many different cables all with same result.

The other (no cord) adapters still work even though I bought them at the same time. So I guess I'll stick with them. But I liked the corded one because it was less likely to get lost.

    Not good at all.

    • Written by from Arlington

You're gonna be able to attach to old accessories for your iPhone 4S, I didn't have any problem with the sound, what I couldn't understand is Why Apple design this cable with an thick plug!!.
If you want to use it with a case or even a bumper, you better have an case with a big hole to connect it, or have your iPhone naked, otherwise forget about it!!!

    Does the job...but

    • Written by from Benicia

Great idea from Apple, but it does not seem like much thought was put into it's development. The problem is that .2 meters (7.87 inches) is just not long enough. My iPod is connected via this adapter to a male 30 pin that stands maybe 3 inches tall. Picture this, the cord goes straight up and loops back down (due to how short it is). Because of this, the iPod will not even lay flat on my desk. When I attempt to lay it flat, the 30 pin tends to lift up, breaking the connection. I feel sorry for the people needing to plug their iPod into something taller. Make the cables at least 1' or 2' as these lengths are much easier to work with.

    Extra thick Ligntning connector

    • Written by from London

I bought this item because I have a load of older devices using 30 pin connectors and I though this would be a convenient way to charge my iPhone 5 and new iPad using the existing cables (I had already bought the Lightning to 30 pin adapter - without the cable - and found it useless as it was too large fit my iPhone with its protective case on, whereas the plug on the Lightning to USB cable supplied with the phone fitted fine).
For some reason the Ligntning conector on this cable is significantly larger than that on the Ligntning to USB cable. You cannot tell this from the photos - indeed the connectors look identical. Consequently this cable will not fit devices with many covers/cases - including Apple's own iPad cover.
Why two different sizes of Lightning plug? I would understand if this was made by a third party manufacturer but this is an Apple product!

    close but no cigar

    • Written by from League City

fits well, charges the phone however, unable to stream Pandora (the reason i bought it). i have a 2011 C63 Benz. deal is the 4S works perfectly with the provided 30pin cable. here is a twist. if i connect the 4S to the factory cable and play pandora and then with the adapter cable connected to the i5 unplug the 4S and hurry and plug the 5 with the adapter cable it plays. doesn't show what is playing but works. can't figure out if the phone needs and update or the car. or maybe the cable has a glitch. i don't know but was a 40 dollar chance and it bit me. any help would be appreciated.

    Don't buy this for a through-connector

    • Written by from North Epping

Apart from the severe overpricing for this connector, it has a different width of plastic surround from the generic cable. This is fine, except if you are trying to use it in a through-connector, as in a Clicon car mount, when this part of the cable is too thick to feed through the slot. Too much to ask Apple for consistency?
