Doesn't work with Apple (!) iPad Camera Connection Kit

    • Written by from Steffisburg

Doesn't work with the Apple (!) iPad Camera Connection Kit. iPhone 5 with iOS 8.1.2 reports «device not recognized» (so that much works fine)...
Overprized gadgets should at least WORK. Shame! Double-Shame! Fife-Star-Shame!

    Cable does not work

    • Written by from Sunnyvale

I used the 30 pin to lightning adapter for 2 years, and it finally died after every day use, so I decided to get the cable instead, as it offered more flexibility in terms of what case I could use on my iPhone. I used the cable (and the adapter) in my car. I had no issues with the adapter, but the cable would only work about 25% of the time. My music would just stop playing randomly and I would have to disconnect to the cable entirely and reconnect everything to get it to work again. Other times it would not recognize my device at all and then i'd just get an error message. At first i thought maybe it was a bad cable, so i exchanged it for another, but the same thing kept happening.

Doesn't work with Lifeproof case (iPhone 6)

    • Written by from Woodbury

My car's previous owner had the dealership wire a 30 pin adapter hidden in the console so you can play music from an Apple product (iPhone, iPod, etc.) through the regular stock stereo. I really enjoy having this feature, but I recently purchased an iPhone 6 which has the lighting connection. I also have a Lifeproof case to protect my new phone. I purchased this adapter from Apple knowing the shorter adapter likely wouldn't fit with the case. Well, this adapter doesn't fit either. The plastic around the lightning connection is bigger than the regular phone charger (which fits fine with my case). I had to grind the plastic completely off this adapter for it to fit, and it barely does. So I just voided any warranty on what I consider an overpriced adapter. I'm pretty annoyed that I had to buy a proprietary connection adapter to fit a prior proprietary connection, then be forced to modify it in order to work, thereby voiding any warranty on said overpriced adapter. Disappointed in Apple on this one.

    Worked flawlessly.

I just purchased this adapter to interface between my iPhone 5s and JVC KD-PDR50 car stereo. While initially hesitant, I was thrilled to find the adapter worked as expected. A lot of the negative reviews are focused on the cord length. However, my stereo cord was already sufficient. All I required was the adapter. It is a bit pricey given it's basic function. Reminds me of the gold plated monster cables Best Buy used to try to sell you. Otherwise, I consider it a solid purchase.

Works great -- with a catch

    • Written by from Santa Clara

I needed this adapter to connect my iPhone 6 (and previously 4S) to the head unit in my car via a third-party interface (details below). It works flawlessly for audio. However, as I first discovered with the iPhone 4S, while audio works great, charging does not. This is due to the fact that newer iPhones (4S and later?) do not support charging via Firewire, and the older third-party interface to my car's head unit outputs power on the Firewire pins.

In order to resolve this, I first used the Griffin "FireWire to USB Charging Converter (3031-FWUSB -- no longer available?)" to reroute power from the Firewire to the USB pins in the standard 30-pin connector. This works perfectly, even if it does mean there's now another adapter inline. The important thing is, I have power to charge the iPhone *and* pristine, line-level audio output from my phone directly into the head unit amp in my car. The sound quality is outstanding, beating every available alternative.

My exact setup is as follows:
    1999 Volvo C70 > SC-901 head unit (Alpine) > Blitzsafe VOL/M-LINK1V.1 wired interface > Griffin Firewire-USB adapter > Apple Lightning to 30-pin Adapter > iPhone 4S, iPhone 5S, iPhone 6

I will be setting up the same configuration in my 1999 Volvo wagon, but will use the Scosche passPORT Charging Adapter in place of the Griffin product, as the latter appears to have been discontinued.

    Doesn't adapt

    • Written by from West Launceston

Work has finally replaced all the CD players with iPod docks, all various brands, all 30 pin. When I replaced my iphone I bought the adapter cable to play music. It works with just one dock, four or five others are not recognised or just don't work. What's the point of an adapter cable that doesn't adapt? What a waste of money. It makes me regret buying the new iPhone

    Excellent Product AAA+

I couldn't be happier with this cable as I attached it to my Soundcast Dock and it works flawlessly with the iPhone 6 and iPad mini 2.

Will not work with car adapter

    • Written by from ATLANTIC BEACH

For some unknown reason, the plastic housing on the lightning plug on this unit is larger than on a standard charger, so it will not work with accessories that are made for the lightning plug. SO FRUSTRATING! A complete waste of time and money- I expect so much more from Apple!

    Pretty decent

    • Written by from West Lafayette

I got the cable one because the smaller block one won't fit into in wall docks. Tried to plug it into my iPhone, the plastic end is thicker than a standard lightning cable and wouldn't fit in my life proof iPhone 6 case, so I had to get out my knife and sandpaper, but at the end ended up completely removing the plastic cover for the Lightning end, exposing the bare metal and hot glue, but now it fits in my case and is securely tight. Dear god that was a lot of work just to be able to use my phone in a dock not to mention I had to modify a $30 dollar product with a knife but who cares about the money. It works and thats all I care about now

    lightning to 30-pin adapter (MD824ZM/A)

    • Written by from zurich

I bought this adapter (lightning to 30-pin adapter (MD824ZM/A)) to connect my iphone 6 on a cable iphone 4. I would also connect it in my stereo. But it does not work!

When I connect I get the message: "This accessory is not compatible with this device"

    What should I do?

30 pin to hdmi not recognised

    • Written by from Orlando

I bought this thinking that it would work with all of my 30 pin connectors. NOT SO! Can charge when I connect it to my iPad 30 pin cable but if I connect it to the the Apple 30 pin to hdmi adaptor it does not work. It says "this accessory not supported by this iPhone"

Really disappointing since it's Apple accessories and not 3rd party. I was hoping that I would not have to buy a separate lightning to hdmi adapter but it seems I have to.

This has got to be a joke. Probably cost 30c from china to make.
Dont understand why you would change the port and not provide an adapter in the box of new products.
    Apple, this is a rort

Works with SONY RDP-M5iP and Mophie juice pack boost

    • Written by from Littleton

I switched over from iPhone 4 to iPhone 6. Had a SONY speaker dock and a Mophie battery, both with 30-pin connectors. This adapter does work with both - to play music on my SONY speaker dock from the iPhone 6, and to use the Mophie to charge the iPhone 6.
I chose this one instead of the adapter without any cable, to prevent torqueing the speaker dock when attaching the iPhone. That seemed to be the issue SONY had with using any adapters with their merchandise.

    Low quality product

This adapter started deteriorating about 2 months after purchase. It has now completely stopped working. This is from normal use. I expected higher quality for the price.

    Works with bose dock

    • Written by from Gravesend

Just updated from iPod touch 2 to iPod touch 5 & required something so I could still use the iPod dock with my Bose equipment. This works perfectly, my iPod seemed to charge whilst connected & the cable length was fine. It is doing so far all I ask of it.

    Not for iPhone 6!

    • Written by from ASHEBORO

"Trust this Computer" will reappear regardless of phone resets. "This accessory may not be supported on this device" pops after what looks like it is working when first attached, should read "is not supported". A very poor product that worked fine on the iphone 5. Spend your $40 at your own risk.

    Works Wonderfully

    • Written by from Leslie Vale

I upgraded to an iPhone 5 and unfortunately, my iPod dock became redundant because of the different connectors. Thankfully, this adapter let me charge my iPhone and use the music controls on my dock. Only reason I gave it 4 stars was the price tag.

    Works Like A Charm

    • Written by from BOULDER

After having read that the square/block converter will probably not be able to plug into my iPhone 6 with a case on (or at least a case that does not have an exposed base), I decided to go with this cable for my car's iPod connection, a Vais SL2i.

Since only 0.2m long, doesn't add a lot of length to my existing cable. And it works! Still have full steering wheel control of volume, track & playlist selection. Track & playlist names display on the stereo's LCD. And my third-party streaming radio app works as well.

I now have a adapter that will work with any Lightning equipped device, no matter the case on the device.

    Too expensive

    • Written by from Matteson

I bought this cable for my IPad Air in January 2014. It is now September 2014 and the cable is already frayed and worn. For $40, you would think Apple could make this cable more durable. Apple makes great products, but when you need parts, it's highway robbery. I tried buying a cable that was supposedly approved by Apple for my IPad, however, it didn't work properly. Needless to say, I had to rely on genuine Apple products. I gave this product two stars because it didn't last a good year.
