I used this to convert my JBL on stage iphone dock from 30 pin to lightning for my iphone5. The dock works exactly as it did before and the attachment to the phone is so firm I dont need to worry about the phone balancing.

    Works a treat

Pity its not a little shorter

I have a MINI Cooper with the iPod connection (Y-Cable with USB and AUX to 30-Pin) and this adapter makes the connection work exactly as it is supposed to. I am able to browse my music through the stereo, skip tracks with the steering wheel controls, and it charges my phone. I don't have an in-dash display, so I don't know if things like MINI Connected will work with this, but the simple iPod adapter does.

I would recommend getting the short cable adapter instead if you're going to use a case. I'm not going to take off stars for that though as it's clearly why they offer the other connector.

Works fine w/ iSkin Claro case, on iPhone5. A little pricey, in my opinion.

Nice adapter, but poor decision in the first place.

I dislike apple's switch, primarily because of the purely digital signal coming from their new connector. I really wish they just would have stuck with the 30 pin, although significantly larger.

But, the adapter. It is sturdy however not too visually appealing. On the device it looks like a growth. However it works and is much needed. As for the expense, considering it sports a Wolfson DAC and solid Apple branded construction, it is not as overpriced as many people claim it is.

Was this useful? Nice adapter, but poor decision in the first place.

Bought this adaptor expecting to be able to use my VGA connector to give an important presentation, only to find it wasn't compatible. This was not stated anywhere on the box! (Or what it is compatible with for that matter). I therefore assumed it would work. A complete waste of money for me.

Works better then 30 Pin for me.

I am using it in my 2006 BMW with an OEM ipod adapter, not only it work fine, but it seems to work better than a using the 30-pin connector on previous iPhone.

I have noticed that this device has some sort of memory build in to it, when I disconnect the IPhone when I leave my car and come back to it later the last played track continues playing that track rather than starting from the first song on the device.

Also when the IPhone is connected it start playing straight away, it doesn't go through the initialisation process which it used to do (about 30s to a minute depending on the number of songs) which was the case when I was using a 30 pin device.

Couldn't be more happy with it as it fixed the flaws I had been dealing with in previous devices.

Adapter needs case modified to use effectively

I bought an iphone 5 yesterday..I love it..however the Lightning to 30 pin Adapter was useless until I took a pair of kitchen shears and
enlarged the bottom port holes on my flexible, poly case to fit the adapter. Now it fits perfectly and my iphone 5 is nested happily in it's radio/clock dock!
AND my beautiful new phone is safe!

What can I say? It's an adapter. It does not fit threw the case of my iPad mini. I'll have to either remove the case or try to modify it to accommodate the adapter. Other than that, the adapter works fine.

I just upgraded from an iPhone 4 to a 5.
I own a Bose Sounddock (from 7 years ago)- adapter works on it and can use my 5 to play music on it now.
I own an Apple iPhone 4 dock- adapter works on it and I can still use it to charge my iPhone 5.
My case is a SKECH and I do have to remove the bottom part but that is why SKECH cases rock because there is a bottom part to remove easily.
Adapter work, works just fine, good buy for these type of items.
But should be 19.99 at most.

    No Video Out!

I bought this product after being told that it would support component video out, if the cable was an apple certified one, by a local rep. I have an Apple component cable attached to the tv in my car, so needless to say it IS certified. The adapter is very short an will not be usable as is if you have any sort of case on it. It DOES charge, sync, and provide audio out. It DOES NOT have video out support. There is currently no viable COMPONENT video out solution for the lighting port devices. I am very disappointed.

Much sturdier than I expected when connecting my iPhone 5 to my main speaker.
Apparently one just needs to invest in the right case. I have had zero issues with my Incase Pro Snap case connecting to any of my speakers, dock connectors, etc.
Unfortunate that people give the device poor reviews as a result of user error.

If you want to be sure if it fit your case ...

Got a Incase Pro Snap Case and there no problem using the adapter.

The adapter has the same tickness as the metal edge of the iPhone. Wide it start over the second small hole near the audio jack, and end 5 holes from the end on the other side of the jack. Is your case left this space uncovered, the adapter should fit. Guess it will help :-)

I have read to my astonishment complaints about this piece not fitting properly with certain cases. While I of course have not seen every case on the market, I have THREE cases and another 3rd party 30 pin that extends from my DAC and in all cases the piece fits and works PERFECTLY. It's a no brainer, just get it if you need it.

    TERRIBLE DESIGN

Though this adapter works fine with 30-pin cords and docks, it doesn't work with most iPhone 5 cases. Because of its terrible design, it doesn't reach far enough to connect to an iPhone 5 wearing a full body case. I'm astonished that apple can make such thin and revolutionary phones, but can't make an adapter that doesn't require you to take your case off every time you use it. How about make it in the shape of a triangle???

Works to allow synchronization using a 30 pin-USB

    • Written by from Cordova

I used this adaptor to allow my iPhone 5 to work with a 30 pin cable. I needed to do this because the original lightning cable is very unreliable. The lightning cable stopped working during the first week of ownership with the new phone.

This adaptor allowed me to use the more reliable 30 pin cable to synchronize with my Macs and PC. It synchronizes with the old cable very well and allows me to use the alternative cable.

Apple must realize that the new lightning cable is of poor quality. I was thinking of the returning the phone. This is a big problem with the phone 5.

    Good but not GREAT

    • Written by from Parker

15 of 22 people found this useful

First off, it does its job perfectly, the 30 pin cords connect flush with the body of the adapter and it allows you to charge, sync, and play music/video. The only thing I didn't like about it is that if you use this with a doc your device will lean back and it seems to bend the charing pins in your device. Other than that its a great product (except for the $30 price tag!)

I don't have a case or anything for my ipod nano so the charger fit fine. The adapter hooks up to my car perfectly and syncs and everything. The audio is great. The only thing it didn't work with is my iHome from like 4 years ago. I don't know why it doesn't work but I'm kind of disappointed that it doesn't play music from my iHome alarm clock.

Not as simple as people seem to think

Considering how small this item is, it's quite a clever bit of kit. To convert a digital signal from Lightning into an analogue output like you find in the 30 pin connector means this has a DAC (Digital Audio Converter) inside it, and it sounds quite good as well. I've not found a DAC this cheap, let alone this small. Only trouble is it looks a little tacky. More colour options would be nice.
