This is a terribly conceived and designed product as it will not fit an Iphone 5S or 5 if you have a cover (which is 100% of Iphone owners). It's so bad, in fact, that none of the Apple designed Iphone covers will work with this Apple adapter. Get the chord instead. I would highly recommend Apple pull this useless product from the market immediately and fire the designer.

Seriously Apple, must try harder on this. I hope someone is reading these comments and acts quick sharp

    Worthless with Apple case

    • Written by from Cambridge

If you have the new 5S case, this is worthless. You have to use the skinny USB cable that comes with the phone or buy the more expensive 30-pin to lightning cable. All your 30-pin sleek speaker systems/recharging devices will not work with this adapter unless you rip off the case every time you use it or get the cable adapter to hang off it. Why couldn't they taper the lightning end to the same size that is on the USB cable for this adapter??

It will not play music on any of my IPOD docking devices. Just charges it. I really can't justify buying new alarm clocks and music cubes. Yep really disappointed and hope Apple comes up with a solution.

    From good to bad

    • Written by from Audubon

I purchased this product so I could charge and play my music from my 5th generation ipod on my ihome. It worked perfectly for about 7 months, but now it doesn't. For some reason, the adapter only lets me charge my ipod. Some of you may be saying that maybe theres something wrong with my ihome. Well there isn't. I tried the adapter on 3 ihomes and 1 bose docking station. The result left me unsatisfied. Whats the point of having a brand spanking new ipod if you can't even use it for it's main purpose- listening to music at a high volume. I am very disappointed with the degrading of this product. I never even abused it. It was always left attached to my ihome. I hope apple with fix this product.

Does not charge the iPod in a Scion XB

    • Written by from Overland Park

I got this so I could play music from my iPhone in my Scion, as well as charge the iphone while on the road.

This adapter plays the music OK, but doesn't charge the phone. Returning and will just buy a normal lightning car charger.

    More Information would be helpful

    • Written by from Bourbonnais

I just got a new iPad. I already owned several 30 pin adaptors from my previous iPad. I thought that purchasing a Lightning to 30 pin adaptor would allow me to use the two video cables that I already owned. However, the adaptor does not support video! It would have been nice if Apple had put that information on the box. So much of what Apple does is great and I love Apple products. I just wish that they would find a way to help us avoid buying new accessories every time we upgrade!

The only reason I bot this was to play music on 30 pin speakers. It's only charging. Why not just by a lightning bolt charger. It's just playing stupid.

    Does not charge

    • Written by from Madrid

It does synchronize information with the computer, but does not charge: through a computer the "not charging" message appears right away, while through a plug it does start charging, but after a couple of minutes the charger overheats and the "not charging" message is shown on screen (luckily it did not start a fire, since the charger did get incredibly hot)

    Does not work

    • Written by from Toronto

Bad enough I can't use any of my stereo or other systems but this simply does not work! I feel my IPhone 5 is a major step backward. I say this as a previous diehard Apple fan. Please find a solution that allows me to connect to my personal stereo system as well as Docks in hotels.

What a con ! and really poor design

    • Written by from LONDON

I bought into Apple because it was functionally great and very cool. The new port connection destroys this ! Why change a winning format ?

I recently invested in all the docking stations around the house including Crestron docks..............and now in order to upgrade my Apple kit I have to buy this ???? !
And let's not forget the need for different charging connections for the iPad mini, iPhone 4 & 5 and iPad1 & 2. I can't just connect to recharge around the house like I used to.

And don't get me started on the bespoke connection in my car that does not allow space for the adaptor.

As for the new connection, who thought this was a smart idea to have something so flimsy ? It clearly won't sustainably support the phone !

And should I in future invest in new systems with docking formats if I can't trust Apple not to change it in future? Seems like the sales of sound docks are also going to get hit. Instead, why not just buy a double jack cable and connect by Aux.

Terrible idea and frankly I'm cynical that it is just a money spinner for Apple. My trust in the firm is destroyed and my appreciation of Apple design badly dented.

This only charges my iphone 5 on the docking station. It does not play audio. Now what do I do - buy the new Bose for iPhone? I don't think so!! Waste if money and waste of time. You advertise that it will do the job - yet it does no such thing!!

I had this adapter for a week. It broke within the week, did not charge my phone, did not play music through my iPhone 4 cable nor did it connect my phone to my laptop.

My advice is to buy a iPhone 5 USB cable, cheaper and more reliable!

    Adapter that does not Adapt

    • Written by from Arlington

I purchased the Lightning to 30-pin Adapter because my iPad Mini is the first product that I have owned with a Lightning connector. None of my Apple accessories and adapters that I use with my iPad (3rd Generation) will work with my iPad Mini, using the Lightning to 30-pin Adapter. I prefer to connect my devices together with a hardwire connection, particularly HD video, rather than streaming. As a result, I find myself going back to my iPad (3rd Generation) because my iPad Mini is so limited due to the response it provides to everything I plug into it, using the Lightning to 30-pin Adapter, "This iPad does not support this device." I should indicate that it will charge using the Adapter, but it will not sync.

Wont charge when connected to cable, wont sync to dock

    • Written by from Saskatoon

This seems pretty useless. It won't charge the phone when used with a 30 pin cable, but it will charge and not sync to an iPod dock. Feels very flimsy as well, which is surprising for a genuine Apple product.

    waste of money.
