    Get the cord adaptor instead.

    • Written by from Wexford

I ordered 2 of these adaptors. BIG PROBLEM: they do not connect to your Iphone 5 if you have a case. (I have the speck case). Since EVERYONE has a case, I am confused as to why Apple would make this product, or not even warn you that it does not plug in when a case is on your phone. The cord adaptor is a bit more expensive, but at least you won't ruin your case by having to continually put it on and off to use the adaptor.

Will not work if your iPhone 5 has any kind of cover

    • Written by from Long Beach

The length of the lightning adapter is too short if you have any kind of cover with your iPhone 5. I have an Apple-like bumper cover (similar to iPhone 4/4S) and the metal contact on the adapter is WAY TOO short. I suggest getting the Lighting to 30-pin Adapter Cable instead. The cable has a thin longer Lightning connection that will work with most iPhone 5 covers.

    Useful but expensive

    • Written by from Cranleigh

It seems to be a useful adapter to have, but for it to cost £25.00? Seems a bit of a rip off to me...

    Works well with slim covers.

    • Written by from Washington

Contrary to the reviews I've seen, I have had no problem using this while having a cover on my iPhone 5. I use this adapter specifically so I may keep using my car XM Skydock (love it) with my iPhone 5 that I alternately use both an Elago Slim-Fit Case and Incase Span Case on. I have no problem whatsoever with the adapter fitting snugly.

My only criticism is that I wish the adapter was a bit shorter.

    design not thought about

    • Written by from Ipswich

Unusual for Apple the design of the adapter has not taken into account that most people put a protection case around there iPhone. All it needed was a step on the iPhone end to allow for the outer case thickness. To use the adapter the outer case has to be removed which is not only inconvenient but defeats the point of an outer case .

    Works with iSimple

    • Written by from Bellingham

Expensive little adapter? Yes, but no stars lost for that.

I have an iSimple vehicle setup for playing music from my iPhone. The adapter is small, and has a good snug fit without being overly snug (the 30pin part). Music plays through the stereo and charges my iPhone too. I'm pleased.

The only negative I could find with this is no video support. I cannot have access to the apps of my AppRadio 2 because it doesn't support video!!

Got this on Wednesday and connected to my 30 pin end ,charges my phone with the case on I do't know why these people complain, if you buy a cheap case you will have to take it out of the case to charge I have an Otterbox Defender case, got to 2 adapters one for the car.
Great product I recommended to a few friends!!!!

Works but I feel ripped off!

    • Written by from St Albans

It works when Iphone has no case. Why not add to the design that the pin can be pushed out more? And why does it not come with the already expensive phone. OR be at a basic token price. It's you that changed the plug design Apple so don't penalise the first users of the very expensive product we've all bought into. It can't possibly cost this much to produce.

    Doesn't play music

    • Written by from Bristol

If you're buying this to play your music through an ipod dock - DON'T. It will charge your ipod, but you will not be able to play any of the music. Total rip off. VERY unsatisfied.

    Poor design

    • Written by from Clarkston

Purchased (3) of these so I could continue to use my existing car charger, 30 pin connectors/chargers in the house because my family has multiple iPads and whoever designed this did not take into consideration any type of case, be it for the iPhone or the iPad.
I'm usually very impressed with the thought put into anything that Apple designs but they sure missed the boat on this one.

    extremely aggravated

    • Written by from Lindenhurst

i recently purchased this adaptor trying to make my old ihome work with my new iphone 5 and have had nothing but problems. the adaptor will charge my phone but i can not play music through the ihome it will only play through the phones speakers. Apple u need to make a new dock that has the new lightning adaptor so i can finally have an alarm clock that works with the newest line of products you have released. seeing how you are making all the new products with this port you should have released a whole new line of products to keep your accessories up to date and not continue selling outdated hardware that the newest consumers of Apple can not use

    missed the boat

    • Written by from Hanmer

as others have written about; this adapter fails to be compatible with most iphone 5 cases manufactured by well respecters companies. I had bought two of these adapters and had to return them as I didn't feel like cutting the opening of my case (iSKin in my case). They should have made the lighting tip longer to compensate for case thickness.
Do yourself a favor and get the adapter with the cord. It actually looks less bulky and no case modifications needed.
Lowering the price of these adapters wouldn't hurt either!

DO NOT BUY THIS if you want it to work with Apple's HDTV 30-pin cable!

    • Written by from Island Lake

I bought this adapter at Target thinking I could attach it to my 30-pin to HDTV cord, but noooo... what a stupid idea to think it would work with other Apple connectors! Silly me. Only after I got the rather shocking "This device not recognized" error message did I angrily log onto the Apple's website to complain, but only then learned it DOESN'T CONNECT WITH VIDEO. WHY the heck not??? Shouldn't Apple adapters be compatible with Apple connectors?? Lack of video support should at least be put on the packaging somewhere. Arrrggh!!

Avoid this adapter -- buy the one with the cord instead

    • Written by from Jacksonville

I have a speck case and the only way I could get this adapter to work was by removing it from my phone. Buy the adapter with the cord instead -- it works perfectly.

    expensive for what you get

    • Written by from Toronto

Works fine with my Bose sound dock, but I cannot believe this piece of plastic and glue cost me $35. Wait for alternatives if you can.
