Don't listen to the people who are careless...

    • Written by from Chester

This is the absolute best case for iPad. That 1 star review? Well they are just careless, romping around throwing an iPad around. This is absolutely worth every penny for the looks, and function. The leather ones have a smooth, gorgeous texture, and beautiful colors. It cleans and protects the screen with ease.

    Love the way it works

    • Written by from Calgary

As a cover for the screen and as a stand, I find it works quite well. It does have a few cons though. Each fold area leave marks on the screen. Easy to wipe off, but there after most uses.
The tam version being light in color stains from the oil in your hands wherever you grip it when the cover is closed over the screen. i.e. top and bottom edge where you would carry the ipad with the cover closed.

    iPad cover

    • Written by from San Juan Capistrano

The cover looks great, feels great, however, the Magnets never seemed to stay connected to the iPad and it was very frustrating, so I returned it.

    Leather version marks very fast

    • Written by from London

Bought the tan leather for white ipad 2 which looked gorgeous for about 2 weeks. Poor quality leather shows every mark especially round the edges where hands handle it. I tried using leather products to clean it but it came out looking worse. Now looking very shabby indeed and needs replacing.

    Don't get it wet!

    • Written by from Wilmington

Found out the hard way what happens if you get a water spot on one of these. You would think that they would have coated it with some water repellant or something. Or at least advised you to do that.

I'm hoping that drying for a couple days will get rid of the worst of it.

    Strange leather!

    • Written by from Dunmow

This was the first cover I bought for my iPad2. Mistake. Not only does it not look like leather, or age like leather, but it has no resistance to fingermarks and seems to pick up grease and stains with ease, despite me being fairly careful and tending only to use my 'Pad with clean hands. It is more like suede, and attempts to clean it failed. In the end, and after only a few weeks, it looked like the brown cardboard lining of a used pizza box; stained and unattractive. And it made my lovely new iPad2 look dreadful.

Feeling sorry for me, my wife and daughter bought me the plastic lime green Apple Smart Cover. At least I can spot the iPad around the house easily when it's wearing that, and it can be cleaned with a moist cloth if required.

Function-wise the Smart Cover is fine. But personally, I would avoid any of the 'leather' covers - save a few quid and go for the cheaper plastic pastel ones.

    BEST CASE IS NO CASE

    • Written by from Portland

I bought the tan color and used leather conditioner on it and boy, what a beautiful rich brown was revealed! The smart cover works perfectly as advertised. I have both the leather and the green plastic and by all means get the leather; it is top quality and the pores just drink in any conditioner giving your iPad a million dollar look.

Get rid of those ugly, pretentious folio cases with their cheap leather and embrace quality and class with a leather smart cover!

    Perfect iPad Companion

    • Written by from London

So perfectly designed to match the iPad, it augments what is already an amazing product.

It's not there to be a protector case really, except for protecting the screen from scratches. It does make a fantastic multi-purpose stand though and also for holding the iPad while reading.

    Love it.

    Very Nice Cover

    • Written by from Richmond Hill

I have had my natural tan leather cover for about 6 months. I have tried a couple other cases but keep coming back to my smart cover. It is made to compliment the sleek look of the iPad and the natural tan leather is wearing as a baseball glove would. If you are concerned with your cover looking brand new out of the box...I would recommend a different colour. However, if you like the natural patina of a tan leather this is the one! The leather has a great touch and feel that you just don't get from a synthetic cover. The Belkin clear snap cover is a great way to protect the back and preserve the look of the aluminum.

I think it is crazy when you see iPhones and iPads covered in bulky cases...really...do pretty things need to be in bubble wrap? For anyone is addicted to Apple as I am...the new model will be released way before the current one looks worn!

    Upgraded quality?

    • Written by from Whittier

For those who may have purchased the cover close to a year ago might be in for a nice surprise. My previous cover had the glue fatigue and the magnet fell apart so I can't give a 5 star but the replacement cover is worlds apart. The cheap glossy leather now has a more fine grained quality with nice texture. The microfiber underside has also seen improvement in the density of the fiber and actual ability to clean.

I must also add that the exchange process was painless and I walked out of the store with a brand new cover no hassle. My 2¢ but it is still the best cover for the iPad 2.

    Works great

    • Written by from Silver Spring

Works very well for its intended use - to cover the front, and to wake up/sleep when opening and closing. I bought a cheap ($6) neoprene sleeve to put the whole thing in when I travel for more complete protection, but mostly I just use my iPad at home so the magnetic cover doesn't need to protect the back. My cover is red - no fingerprints etc yet. I love that it wakes up or sleeps instantaneously.

    Looks like cardboard, and discolours

    • Written by from Murarrie

I like the function of the cover. Rolls up well, locks/unlocks well. But the Tan! I had several people comment "wow, that's a cool DIY cardboard cover!" I wish it was...but no that's the tan. Next, it gets dirty and looks horrible. Pick a dark colour.

    Exactly what I'd hoped for

    • Written by from Lewisville

I have the tan leather Smart Cover on my iPad with retina display (4th generation).
It feels great to the touch. Makes my iPad a pleasure to pick up.
It gives a personal touch to a glass & metal mechanical device, due to the uniquely individual way in which leather ages and wears.
The more it wears, the more I appreciate it ... like a well-used leather jacket that your Dad left to you.
As others have said here, if you want your smart cover to remain flawless, unmarked, sanitized-looking, then get the man-made material version and get it in a darker color. You will spend less money for it and it will suit your style better. But if you're the type of person who can appreciate and value a well-used antique, leather-bound book, then this is the Smart Cover for you.

    Tan Smart Cover

    • Written by from Caledon

I bought the tan Smart Cover last February, when I got it I looked beautiful but everyone at school thought it was cardboard. Now it looks terrible, it kinda got darker and it has marks all over it. It's great in the beginning but later you'll want to burn it. Buy if you desire

    It's a "Smart" Cover

    • Written by from Atlantic City

I bought a polyurethane Smart Cover for my iPad 2, and it works with my new iPad as well. One of the many reasons I like the SC so much is because it doesn't add any extra weight to the iPad. Other covers, or cases, are very bulky, adding extra weight and making it uncomfortable to use. There are some third party covers and cases that are light as well, but they don't work as well as the SC does. For example, some of the benefit of having the SC: it puts your iPad to sleep, this is a good thing to have, the versatile stand option, and the screen cleaner as well. Three features in one.

    Leather Covers Work Fine

    • Written by from Galena

We have the tan and red covers. They are stylish, easy to use, and serve their purpose - namely to protect the screen when not in use.

    Not very good

    • Written by from toronto

I switched from a first generation iPad, to the new model. I decided to get one of these smart cases, as the apple store pushes them so much. After using it for 3 months I can say that it's not very good. They look nice, and maintain the thinness of the iPad, but that's is about it. No protection from dropping, and in fact you are more likely to drop it due to the constantly detaching magnets on the case.

All in all, I would recommend buying a nicer case, that covers the whole device, and isn't held on by magnets.

    Sooooo disappointed!

    • Written by from Natchez

I am an original iPad owner and just upgraded to the new iPad, well I figured I needed one of these fancy new covers...in hot pink, well past the pretty color there is nothing I like about it! I find the cover very awkward. Maybe it is because I had a thin black full cover on my old iPad and could hold it with one hand, it was very easy to handle. With the new cover the back is too slick and slides out of my hand, there is no way to really hold it well and the darn cover pops off constantly! I just bought it yesterday and wish I had saved the box to return...I can't stress enough how much I dislike this case! I am hoping they still make a cover like my old one...where you can slide your hand in the back cover to hold while using and nothing pops off!!! Sorry Apple...I love everything else :-( I am sure I am in the minority here but give me the old cheap black cover back!

Great - read the product description

    • Written by from GLASGOW

Apple sell this as a 'cover' (clue is in the word). For those blaming it for not protecting their screens from drops... don't drop it and buy a protective cover or case.

Yes, they are expensive, but do exactly what Apple describe. It you have spent a lot of money on your iPad, then the cost of this is all relevant.
