Do not buy for Amazon Instant Video Streaming

Since Apple and Amazon can't play nice with each other, I will be returning this product. It does an okay job of mirroring what's on my iPad (the image quality is not broadcast television or DVD quality), but since I can't play Amazon instant videos (through an iPad app no less) because of licensing agreements (which are "laughable" according to Macworld) I am not happy. This might be worth buying if you are an Apple loyal person who doesn't ever buy a non-apple product....ever.

I got this for my birthday last year and it worked fine. Then I upgraded to iOS 6 the day it came out, and it has not worked since.

Plugged Ito my ipad and it worked great but removal was scary.
The adapter fits into the ipad 30'pin port so tight, it was very, very difficult to remove. So proceeded to install in my iPhone. Bad luck, it didn't work at all. Again very difficult to remove.

I would have kept it but the snug fit makes me think that pins could become damaged.

Great product concept, but mine broke within 6 months and had to be replaced. Maybe a rare lemon, but definitely didn't help my product experience having to replace this quickly. Store I bought it at wouldn't take it back either.

I hate that I can't mirror my iPod and only can watch films/ slideshows with it, it's so unfair.

    Does not "mirror"...not on iPhone4

Just bought this product litterally 1hr ago on the assumption it would play all that I have on my phone (mirror as they say). I tried to get the saleperson to do a quick demo to verify that it would work as expected, but no luck, so back home troubleshooting, not enjoying, and now writing. I'm on a iPhone4, and although this unit supports the device as per this website, it clearly only supports "APPLE" verified APPS. Meaning, living here in Canada, there are a tremendous amount of streaming video available from the various networks via their own APPS. I've restarted, reset, rebooted, but I cannot get video from these at all as they don't have the special window that says "this video is playing on your TV", only sound. I also cannot get video from Safari. Of all the APPS I have that succesfully play video on my phone, only the Movies, Podcasts, Photos, and Music will actually play through the HDMI cable to my TV. I'm very disappointed as I was hoping to swap this out for my cable for a bit and save some money, seems that won't be the case. It does not actually "mirrror" your device, at least not mine, its seems the APPS have to be designed to accept the signal and push it out or our phones more likley are only designed to work between APPLE to APPLE products? AUGH. Don't even get me started on the new "MAPS" application they pushed out. Seems the past few months have been worse for users than ever before. Frustrating. To be Returned TOMORROW and I guess I'll just be happy watching ALL my stuff on my phone. I don't really feel like paying 50$ for something that only works for "some" and not all, that's not mirroring anyway.

    Short life

Worked great, However, I have had this adapter for three months with very limited usage and the cable (short as it is) already shorts out leading to intermittent mirroring. Cannot find any information regarding a warranty period. At the price, this adapter should work flawlessly for multiple years, not multiple uses.

Ok with iOS 5, not with iOS 6.0.1

I upgraded my iPhone 4S to iOS6 even before thinking about purchasing this adapter. Later I decided to purchase it, and did so just as iOS 6.0.1 was being released. To my surprise, this adapter still does not work with my iPhone 4S and iOS 6.0.1. The adapter does work with my 1st gen iPad and even my wife's iPhone 4S that still has iOS 5.1.1. I have a great deal of content on my phone that I would like to see on my large flat screen TV, however due to iOS 6 I'm not able to do so. To be honest I am quite disappointed and somewhat frustrated.

Before installing IOS 6.1 my AV adapter worked perfectly. However, since updating to IOS 6.1 I receive "accessory not supported" message when using the AV Adapter. Apple please fix this bug that seems to have been created and directly connected to the IOS 6.1 update.

    No 1080p video

I'm seriously disappointed I can't play my 1080p movies from my ipad to my 1080p HDTV plasma using the HDMI cable. This would have allowed me to play an ipad movie in all its HD glory when I visit my parents and mother-in-laws house too, but Im a graphics guy and playing 720 on a 1080 screen is unacceptable. I really dont want to lug around my blu-ray discs to get 1080p. The only solution is vudu service until apple fixes this 720 limitation, but vudu will only do 1080 if you have 9mbps wifi, not a problem at my parents house, but mother in law doesnt have fast enough internet to stream 1080p. My plea to apple and boycott is fix this limitation. Why should I waste money buying itunes 1080p movies if im limited to 720p playback when i use this HDMI cable to a 1080p HDTV. REGRET buying the cable, the best buy rep told me it would play 1080p since i have an ipad 3. :(

Works great with new iPad (3) not so good with iPhone 4

    • Written by from Leesburg

41 of 52 people found this useful

The product works as expected with my new iPad (3) but has limited uses with the iPhone 4. For the iPhone 4, it is dependent on the application that you run. I'm sure it works great on the iPhone 4s. The advertising is very deceptive for the iPhone 4. The advertisement says "The accessory is compatible with the following:" and the iPhone 4 is listed. However, in a different box it states "*Video mirroring is available with iPad 2 or later and iPhone 4S" in extremely light grey - but there is no explanation of video mirroring. Why is this note in light grey? Is it purposefully hidden? The cable connects to the iPad well, but easily disconnects from the Phone 4. I give the cable 4 out of 5 for the iPad and 0 out of 5 for the iPhone 4 - and 1 out of 5 to Apple for the advertising and price of the cable.

Needs to be updated for iPad (3rd generation)

"New" iPad (3rd generation) owners beware: this adapter only puts out the resolution of an iPad 2. It doesn't fill any more of an external 1080p monitor than an iPad 2 would.
