Not very stable, poor choice for the iPad.

Purchased with my new iPad 2 which is really too heavy for this dock, so I wouldn't use it for any length of time, particularly to leave it and walk away -- easy to tip over.

We love this dock, so much we just bought another one. My husband hooks it up to his speakers out in the shop & just streams all day while he's creating. The one we just bought is going to be hooked up to the Bose so we can stream away in the house! The only reason I'm not giving this 5 stars is that you do have to jiggle it sometimes to get it to connect just right. Don't let the negative reviews bother you. You just have to be smarter than the device. Can't fix "stupid"

It would be nice to have a dock that you could just drop the iPad into, like you can with the iPhone dock. With this dock you have to angle and center the iPad just-so to have it slide onto the 30 pin connector. After using the dock for a few days I can manage that trick on the first try most of the time, but it shouldn't be so hard to do.

    Dock vs. cover

I purchased this dock to work with my new iPad and because other reviews indicated it would charge an iPhone4. Here's the straight answer: If you have an Apple cover on your iPad you must either open it or remove it to charge the iPad in the dock. If you have a skin cover on your iPhone4 it simply will not seat on the connector and hence will not charge. There is no way around these issues.

To their great credit, returning the dock to Apple is straight forward. And they even pay for the shipping and credit you for the original shipping costs.

The dock goes perfectly with the white iPad. I have the white iPad 2, and the color is identical so it doesn't look bad. I recomend buying.

It's the best way to sync and charge your iPad. It's robust, reliable, and the rubber base makes it very secure.
I use it all the time, is easy to plug with ONE HAND.
    Congratulations Apple another awesome product

First of all it is not a perfect fit and it is extremely hard to chage the iPad because the fit is so bad. Would not recommend it.

Failed two months after warranty ended

I wouldn't usually hesitate with recommending Apple accessories, however I was particularly disappointing with my experience of this product.

Two months after the one year warranty expired the unit stopped charging my iPad. After trekking to a suburban Apple Store, the Genius I spoke to shrugged, told me it was out of warranty and that he'd be happy to sell me another one. $35 for another 14 months I thought. No thanks!

Third party docks of comparable quality can be had on eBay for around the $5 mark. I'll be steering clear of Apple accessories in future as a result of this experience.

    iPad cover users beware

Fairly useless if you have any kind of protective cover for your iPad that does not specifically state it works with the iPad dock.

The design means that any sort of protective cover inhibits using the dock. Pretty basic stuff to me. Very disappointing product and poor value since it doesn't come with another USB charger, it is just the dock and an 'Audio out' port for those with fastidious bedside table requirements.

Removing the protective cover everytime the iPad is docked negates the value of having an 'iPad station' to me.

Save your money and go buy a 6 pack of craft beer instead :)

do not bye if you have a smartcover or any other protection for your iPad. i never used it because then i would have to remove my covers and that made it completely useless.

If you use a back cover for your Ipad, like I do, it's almost useless. You need to remove the cover every time. So I almost don't use it.
But it looks very professional ^^.

Does what is says on the packet, however if like me you purchased one of Apple's 'iPad Smart Covers you have to remove it before docking.

Thankfully still had the dock I purchased for my original iPad, which unlike the third generation doesn't have the front plate which secures the iPad (3) into the dock. I can therefore leave my 'smart cover' on my iPad.

Disappointingly Apple didn't think to consider the marriage of the two when they were developing the dock, but then again we still have this very same issue with the iPhone Bumpers.

It's a dock, and it works.... perfectly...Part II.

I love the dock. It's simple, solidly built and holds the iPad securely. Since the iPad syncs with iTunes wirelessly and backs up to my iCloud account, the dock sits at my bedside full time. I had considered buying two docks, one for my pc and one for the bedroom but I found this to be unnecessary.

I don't see how anyone could have an issue with this product IF they read the product description and looked at the pictures. Nowhere does it say anything about being compatible with any iPad covers nor do any of the illustrations show an iPad with a cover. As for the orientation, the description clearly states "Your iPad sits upright in the dock." Having said that, if you pull the smart cover back an inch or so, you can dock your iPad and then close the cover. C’mon people, it’s $29.

Terrible dock!!!!! I bought this a day after I bought my iPad 3 and it's so inconvenient! You can't use a smart cover with it let alone another type of case! The cord doesn't reach any father than about a meter and it's very tricky to get the iPad ON the dock. I'm taking it back. Do not buy this dock!!
But buy an iPad it's incredible :)
    Btw I'm 14 :)

To be honest, those who are giving this product negative reviews don't seem to have given their purchase much thought. So far as I can see, those griping about it are saying that it doesn't work with cases and such. Knowing Apple, though, it makes sense that it wouldn't. They like to streamline their products. It wouldn't look quite so attractive sitting on your desk if it was covered up with a chunky case. It's just Apple. That being said, the dock does what it's meant to do. It makes typing with the Apple bluetooth keyboard much nicer, and it just looks great sitting on my nightstand. I've had no issues with charging. As far as a docking station goes in terms of its uses, it's a great product.

I would not recommend. It is very difficult to place iPad on the dock, with or without using a cover. To manipulate the iPad to engage the dock scratched the iPad.

Very basic dock with limited application. Would have been nice if it came with a remote like the ipod touch/iphone dock. Would defiantly have paid more. Also the ipad3 wont fit in the dock with its case on? the design of this unit needs to be rethought.

What's to complain about? It's sturdy, simple, and parks my beautiful iPad like a boss..... I love that I can also flip the iPad landscape and it holds just fine. I'm actually happy it doesn't allow me to plug in my iPhone in to it, this way it has the perfect fit just for the iPad rather than fatter iPhones and others... It's nice and snug instead. So what else do you want? It also plugs in headphones. It's 5 stars for me...
