This is good for displaying photos and videos on your IPod or IPhone 4's with a VGA compatible TV or projector but on the IPod and IPhone, you can only display photos and videos. On the IPad you can display practicly anything!! If you were going to get this item I'd recommend the composite adapter or the digital AV adapter W/ HDMI. also the plug sometimes disconnects on the slightest move for me.

Bought this today with a VGA cable to attach my iPad 2 to the TV. Works flawlessly, mirrors Air Video, TVCatchup, 4OD and even iPlayer as well as your springboard and apps to your big screen. Couldn't have wished for more! Can't vouch for iTunes content, but then I rarely purchase a film from that source anyway. Not sure what all the compaints are about.

I know some r upset, but read carefully before buying. This will only mirror screen if u are using newest devices, but if u do, it's great and seamless. It only works with certain applications if u r running older devices.

This cable DOES MIRROR THE NEW IPAD

I tried one out today and it worked just the way I hoped it would--everything on my iPad screen was projected. I tried several different apps and all ran without a problem. Keynote looked great, of course, but so did all of the non-Apple software.

I use my iPad (third gen) for my classroom presentation as a secondary teacher and everything I do on my iPad gets projected on the projector. This can be great but unfortunately mirroring 'everything' means it even shows passwords including when you unlock your iPad. I wish Apple could fix this so secure forms and unlocking code cannot be seen on the projected side.

    Works but w/o charging opportunity

The adapter works fine - I've used it quite often for presentations instead of carying around my Notebook. (five stars for this)

The huge disadvantge of the adapter is, that it does not allow charging of the iPAD while using the VGA adaptor. That means prior to using the iPAD for a presentation you have to ensure that it is fully loaded. (zero stars for this)

I don't understand why Apple has not build in a small USB port or a Dock connector to allow charging like they have done it with the HDMI Adapter....

    Great for iPad 2

This works great on iPad 2. As soon as you plug in, your iPad screen is on your TV. I could run most of my apps, but not all. We watched I am Legend last night on via my iPad 2 on our big screen TV. Looked better than my DVD player!

However, I bought this adapter when I had an iPad 1 and it did not work. I knew I would eventually get iPad 2 so kept it and am so glad I did!

Only wish...iPad remote control! Had to run to iPad by the TV to pause!

    Rubbish VGA cable

As a teacher and lecturer who loves my iPad i am so so disappointed with this rubbish cable which is good for nothing. Can not use it to display anything of use except photos and videos and a few junk apps. If it could mirror my writing and drawing apps my iPad could revolutionise my lessons! Such a shame. Also bad business as a lot of educators, teachers, etc would use otherwise.

It cannot always be securely attached

I have bought the VGA adapter with a single purpose in mind: to deliver Keynote presentations as a guest lecturer. I travel light with my iPad, the projector and VGA cable are supplied for me.
That was the idea. I turns out that the Apple VGA adapter can only be securely attached to a certain kind of VGA cables with the extra long screws. And these are few and far between. So most of the time I end up with the insecurely attached cable that occasionaly detaches during the presentation.
And this fact is CONSTANTLY DISTURBING MY WORKFLOW! Any proffesional will agree that giving presentations is all about concentrating on the subject and not thinking about the equipment. Attention to details, Apple?

I got this cord so that i could present a project in keynote that i did on my mac. I brought this cord to my school to present my project from my iPhone and it worked great! If you are looking for a Vga Adapter for your iPad, iPhone or iTouch, this is the best cord to get for $29.99 and Its worth the money.

Works great. As advertised. I have an iPad2 and was using this to mirror through a projector to a college class. All apps. No problem. Nay sayers really ought to read more about a product before they buy it and claim it doesn't work.

VGA Works Fine with iPad 2 and up

We use a number of VGA adapters on our iPads at an elementary school. We occasionally secure them to the iPad with some duct tape, but otherwise everything works fine with our Promethean Boards.

If you can't read, don't complain. It clearly says that mirroring only works on the iPad 2 and up. I have the third generation, and it works perfectly.

Works as advertised. Personally, a very useful accessory as a student, given the need to type (typing on the iPad becomes so much more blissful with your eyes and fingers on separate screens) and present (with presentations about every other week requiring slides, it's so much easier to bring an iPad than laptop to school). And surprisingly cheap, as an Apple product.

I have noticed that many people assume that this will mirror on the iPad. This is true...but only for 2nd and 3rd generation iPads. I repeat: THE FIRST GENERATION IPAD IS NOT CAPABLE OF MIRRORING. Only buy this cord for mirroring purposes if you own a 2nd or 3rd generation iPad.

Just got it home, expecting only to see my Numbers slide shows, some videos, and perhaps photos on my computer monitor. Wow! Everything is mirrored to the monitor. All apps. Everything. Moved it to a "computer" vga input on a TV with the same results. iPad 2, IOS 5.1. One caution: unlike the Composite AV Cable, this adapter does not charge your iPad. Not likely to be much of an issue, but if you need to make sure the battery doesn't die, use the Composite AV Cable. It sends the audio out, too.
