I've already had in incident with the cord. Some one in Starbucks wasn't looking where he was talking and tripped over my cord, but the cord popped out, and my laptop was still on the table, and not the floor like my last laptop. Thanks Apple..

Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter (for MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro)
Best laptop connector. Period.
Written by DA from Brooklyn
May 30, 2006
Until they implement wireless charging units using concentrated beams of microwaves directed at your laptop to charge it, this is as close as we're going to get to having an easy to use, safe power adapter that won't destroy your laptop every time you trip over the cable. We have all seen our ibooks and powerbooks fall or nearly fall due to this. Not only does it prevent falls, but there is much less wear and tear because there are virtually no "jacks" involved in the connection between the laptop and the adapter, therefore, there is one less spring to wear out. This 60 watt power supply works for the Macbook and Macbook Pro, but it will only power the Macbook Pro, not charge it. So while they are not completely interchangeable, they will work together to a degree.

Got a Dog or a kid? You Need this
Written by MS from Myrtle Beach

If anyone here has a dog they know that thier favorite thing to do is get tangled up in stuff. If your dog is like mine, she is tangled in the leash 3 steps out the door.
This connector has proven its worth time and again since i got the MacBookPro a couple months ago. I have seen so many mac laptops with broken DC inputs in the past.
I feel like i did when i bought my ipod and said to myself "why isn't everything that takes batteries rechargable and dockable?"
now i am saying to myself "why doesn't everyone else using DC power supplies switch to magsafe?"
I have a friend who is an IT specialist for PCs and he is always touting regurgitated innovation in the PC world, but Apple truly is innovative in the design of their procucts and selection of their vendors.
Way to Go... Again.8 of 15 people found this useful

Really useful!
Written by MD from Glasgow

The MagSafe connection really is useful. - It's so easy to walk off with your MacBook and forget that it's plugged in - fear not, the Magsafe connector will safely disconnect and let you roam. - The same can also be said if you happen to trip over the cable, which is great - because then no damage happens to your expensive toy (MacBook!).
A bit expensive, but definately worth it.14 of 21 people found this useful

Great product! To bad those without MacBooks (& Pros) can't enjoy
Written by IC from Aurora

As an engineer I find that the best inventions are ones where people say "Of course!" when they see it. This is one. It is such a good idea. The only sad part is that unless you have a MacBook or MB Pro you can't enjoy it
The magnetic feature of this plug has a very strong pull and does not come out unless you intend it to. Also the cord wrap is brilliant. No more breaking elastic bands to keep the cord tidy.
The only improvement I would make (since Apple seems to be one of the few companies that looks at something great and say 'how can it be even better') is to have the power prongs protrude from the larger sided face of the power block. For anyone who is trying to fit the power adapter behind a book case and such will note that it sticks out quite a ways. This would also mean that the weight of the block itself would not pull on the plug.
All in all a great product.

seems apple has fixed the problems with the other power adapters with this one for the macbook. it does get hot, but that's to be expected, it's a power adapter after all. i've had no problems charging my macbook, and the orange/green indicator light on the plug is a thing of genius! great industrial design.

Part brilliant, part dumb...
Written by DC from Plano

Pros - MagSafe is brilliant, it's saved my computer from the dog and my sister at least 5 times. The tabs allow you to store the cable on the actual adapter. One of those little extras that we've come to expect over the years from Apple.
Cons - It seems noisy to me, it kinda squeals a bit, but I have more sensitive ears than most people. It gets surprisingly hot. The edges of the tabs that you reel the cable onto seem a bit sharp, and I get the feeling that the cable is being damaged everytime I wind it up.
If I designed it, it would be like the older ones that were circular. They didn't put kinks in the cable like this one does.3 of 6 people found this useful

Having had my old iBook drop a couple times after tripping on power cords, an literally killing 3 different apple power adapters (ouch at $80 a pop), it's nice to know I shouldn't be having that problem again with my new MacBook...

This sucks
Written by EB from Leicester

I'm sorry, I love apple, I really do, but this is just terrible. Maybe it's just mine, but if i charge my macbook for more than 15 minutes, it gets so hot, I can't pick it up. Which is almost as bad as my macbook itself, which suffers the same problem. As soon as its on, it starts heating up. It's not warm like my G4 iBook, it's HOT. really, really hot. Apple care just kept telling me not to put in on my lap (I never do), and didn't say anything about the charger. I'm scared to charge it where I can't watch it, in case it sets fire to the carpet. Any ideas? I only got it on friday.

Seriously horrible!

This was such a ripoff to pay $80! Especially when you consider how hot these get and how easily they break. I had to replace my adapter when my dog accidently pulled on it when he walked by. Ripped the tip of the adapter to shreads! Then I had to take my computer to the Genious Bar at the Apple Store just to make sure my computer was ok. I can't freaking believe for such a bad adapter you charge $80!

FIRE DANGER
Written by DB from Burnsville

Once again another loyal Apple user, (MacBookPro, MacBook, G4, MacMini, PowerBook, Nano, iPod) has been victim to Apple's "great products". My MagSafe has not only failed, it has melted. Luckly I was there when it had happened. Needless to say this is a problem that is not being resolved by Apple, but I feel the CPSC will solve it.

I AM Scared!
Written by JF from Montclair
Aug 4, 2006
I just switched over to Mac and while I love the software design and approach, the hardware is cheap junk -- not only does this new macbook get hot enough to fry eggs, the power adapter sparks a big yellow and blue flame and makes a loud 'pop' when you plug it into the wall.
And get this! -- I just called Apple Support and the rep tells me, "Oh, that's completely normal for that adapter to do that when you plug it into the wall"
Who do they think they're fooling? I couldn't get her to replace it -- she grilled me on questions that pertained to bodily injury or sparks being emmitted after it was plugged in (well, the fact that she had a questionare to read from with all these pre-formed questions alludes to the fact they know they have a serious problem here, but aren't ready to play it safe with a recall or redesign -- they'll wait until you've been burned or sparks fly from the unit)
I've got to hand it to them -- what a clever piece of marketing -- design it with flaws to scare people into buying the AppleCare extended warranty -- Hey Apple -- it's working -- I AM scared! (Very, very dissapointed Apple, you're falling into the lure of greed like MicroSoft -- turn it around before it's too late)19 of 30 people found this useful

Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter (for MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro)
Very disappointing!
Written by KB from Oberlin
Aug 5, 2006
Using the last of my power (in red zone) to write this after ordering a new MagSafe Adaptor for my 2 MONTH old MacBook. The AC plug part broke apart after being bumped lightly by a chair, the clumsy design makes it stick out which is annoying for furniture placement, not that you'd want to put any furniture too close to this apparent fire hazard anyhow. Upon inspection of the plug, thinking maybe it was made to break away like that and might snap back into place, it shows evidence of beginning to fry/ heat damage on the metal inside the box where the plugs fit in. Very disappointing, I was loving my very first Mac and very first notebook after hearing how they're so much better than PC. This hardware sucks, and it sucks to have to pay $80 and wait 2-3 weeks for a new one since apparently they are in short supply. We should all get one for free. I hope they fix the design soon. If they don't I'll be going back to PC, any PC. I can't pay 80 bucks every two months to be powered up! Oops, in the red zone for battery power, this will be my last few moments of usage until the new one arrives, back to email on the cell phone and no web surfing for a few weeks! If I could give it zero stars, I would.

Buy the 85 watt MacBook Pro model
Written by JO from Tacoma
Aug 6, 2006
The 60W original equipment power adapter for the Macbook is fine and works as it should. However, if you are buying a spare, why not get the 85W MB Pro model. It is the same price and it seems to stay noticeably cooler when charging the Macbook. I have both computers and the 85W will work for either.
The 60W works only on a limited basis with a Macbook Pro. It will provide enough power to run the computer, but doesn't have enough reserve to charge the battery unless you put the MBP to sleep or shut down. This is actually better than I would have expected.2919 of 3394 people found this useful

The Greatest Invention Ever!!!
Written by AB from Goleta
Aug 11, 2006
I would give this a million stars if I had the option. I'm sorry that everybody who's MagSafe Power Adapter blew up or failed on them isn't having such a spectacular time with their MagSafe as I am. Perhaps it's just that you don't take care of your product as well as I do?
Personally, I've had no issue with the adapter, other than the fact that there are THREE prongs at the end of the extension cable, rather than two (like the PowerBook G4). This is a highly inconvenient feature for people who don't have a three prong socket at all times.
Other than that, I praise Apple for their innovative ideas, and willingness to take steps towards the future.
Thanks Apple!!10 of 20 people found this useful

Good but not perfect
Written by EA from Millbrae
Aug 18, 2006
The wires of the cord near the magnet head exposed after 6 weeks. Now with my replacement I simply keep the wire as straight as possible. Apple needs to learn to make the rubber in the wires much thicker or sturdier. The design is aesthetically pleasing but impractical for the rugged life of a portable computer. But, the magnet design is perfect for avoiding a harsh fall.
