Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter (for MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro)
Too fragile
Written by FM from BURLINGAME

I love my MacBook but I hate the power adapter.
It's too fragile. Whenever I unplug it, it gets looser and looser and eventually the part fell apart. I had to use a super glue so the parts stay all together.
One another thing, the cable is way too short. I can barely move the MacBook.
I think Mac is trying to make money off this power adapter... it doesn't last, and
it costs &79 to replace it.

I've had my macbook a little more than 8 months and the power adapter works great and looks like new. It only get hots when it is charging the battery, otherwise it stays cool. The negative comments are because people do not take a little care in owning their apple products. Operator error!!

Pathetic power adaptor
Written by SA from Skirling

My power adaptor has suddenly stopped working after only several months use. Having had the identical problem with the power adaptor on my iphone- again after only very brief use- I am beginning to think that my devotion to apple is mis-founded and very very expensive to maintain. Considering the huge number of similar complaints on the website I am at a loss to understand why apple are not dealing with this major issue.

Smart, stylish design - just like my MacBook.

Some people have complained that their MagSafe adapter tends to break. I don't know - mine is fine after a year. My previous laptop was a Compaq for which I had to replace the adapter three times - mostly because I kept tripping over the cord - sometimes taking the laptop to the floor with me.
Whether or not this one is more reliable, I think the other features are great. Very portable, the status light is great, very compact without the extension cable, and the fold-out cable holders are great. Overall, the usual smart, stylish Apple design.9 of 30 people found this useful

Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter (for MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro)
poor but pretty design

I have been very happy with my first macbook experience EXCEPT for this power adapter. My cable has weakened and the fibers are breaking through the plastic. It is very hot to the touch and is a certain fire hazard. I can no longer get power to my computer without holding the cord just right. I have not abused the cord - this is with normal use. It is a nice design idea but still has a severely faulty design. The product should not be expected to fail through normal use like this, should not be a hazard, and should not have to be so expensive to replace with the same thing that will likely have the same problem. Perhaps Apple will consider making a sturdier cable. Too bad this seems to be the only option for my macbook.

Often replaced...
Written by JR from New Brighton

The idea of this power adapter is good, but people don't understand how to handle this product. When being plugged and unplugged from the computer, pull by the magnet and NOT the cord. When wrapping the cable around the brick, wrap lightly. If you wrap too tight or pull too hard, the cable will fray. Regardless, this product is sensitive. All I can say is be careful.

I have two, one for home and one for the office. I am very abusive to the home chord and have been yelled at for yanking it out of the outlet from a few feet away. I have never had a problem. The block does get a little hot but I now use it as a coaster to keep my drinks warm.
Side note:
I am also one of those people who have an ipod and has never replaced the battery.11 of 18 people found this useful

Best adapter ever made

I've owned many laptops and two Apple laptops, the latest a MacBook Air. This adapter is the best idea in the mobile market. I never lost a laptop from someone or myself tripping on the adapter cord, but I've had many close calls.
This is another great invention from a great company. Thanks, Apple for thinking about us, mobile users.10 of 21 people found this useful

We've three of these in the household, one used at a desk, two mobile. They all work fine, the oldest is over two years old and looks new. No heat issues, no frayed cables, nothing amiss.
I love the design, love the fact I change the plug for a cord when extra length is needed. I've even noticed PC users looking at the thing with envy, and it's a power supply!!13 of 23 people found this useful

I have three apple Laptops with Magsafe adapters and none have ever caused a bother, I treat them well and they had never let me down.
I am writing this review as I noticed the bad press they are getting as I was pricing a spare to sit at work.
Try using a Dell power adapter, or a Sony then you will have cause to complain as their design teams have just used the same old same old since laptop production began.
Excellent product groundbreaking design well done Apple.15 of 38 people found this useful

I've had my MacBook for about 2 months and needless to say the charger did not last long!! I'll be honest my two pugs were chasing each other when one knocked it out the wall, but it took that one hit and now I have to manuever it and like one reviewer said, use tape, in order for it to charge my MacBook. I spent a lot of money, so of course I need to take care of my investment, but at least can the charger be made to withstand a dog and a child?

Industrial design flaw with adapter
Written by CL from Acworth
May 3, 2009
No one can argue that we pay a premium for the design, elegance, and reliability of Apple products. This sets an expectation that the product is well designed and supported.
I have not found this the case with the 60w adapter for the MacBook that I own. I have had issues with heat (that little white bugger gets hot enough to burn you). Now I have an issue with the demise of the adapter. No amber or green lights now, just dead.
So here is to another $80 for a part that has failed due to poor engineering.
The company has admitted a design flaw with the keyboard cover and the cracking issue, when will they own up to this issue?19 of 27 people found this useful

Dell Quality for Twice the Price
Written by ED from Murray
May 2, 2009
After a couple months, the magnetic part separated from the rest of the cord, so it was difficult to get the power to stay connected. After I got it replaced under the warranty, the same thing happened with the second cord. I lived with it until today when it sparked and stopped working altogether. Of course, now the warranty has expired, so I get to pay $79 for another likely poor quality cord.

I have used my power supply with little to no regard for its care and it hasn't failed me in over 9 months. The ease of connecting the mag safe connector in the dark when power begins to run low, and the ease of wrapping the vord for storage in my backpack are big pluses!

Durability Matters
Written by AD from Baltimore

Ok I have had my Mac Book for about 2 months and already the charger is beginning to fall apart in although it works when I put tape all around it. I think that is really unnecessary and maybe instead of making the charger look so nice and cool they should focus on the fact that it is very easily broken.

Not too pleased...
Written by JD from Cheshire

I've taken very good care of this adapter, being careful to wrap the cord and place it back in my bag after each use. I took it out to plug in my MacBook this morning, and to my surprise, the plastic coating around the wires at the base of the adapter had melted, and the thing started smoking. Good thing I never leave my MacBook plugged in when I'm not home. I would have burned down my house! I'm stuck, so I'll have to purchase another, but I'm not at all pleased.

Power charger of MacBook
Written by FT from Gif sur Yvette

I bought a new MacBook for my daughter July 2008. After 9 months, it does not charge the battery. She can work with it with the main but the battery is not charged. I did all the usual disconnecting, removing the battery and resetting, etc. No good.
There is no sign of physical failure anywhere. The amber or green light simply does not come on.
The battery charges with my MacBook pro charger, so it is not the battery or setting. After so many complain about the charger, it is a shame that Apple still sells faulty chargers. I hope I can get it replaced under the guarantee.18 of 27 people found this useful
