I have tried many media players throughout my computing career, but QuickTime has always been far and away the most reliable. It may sound cliché, but QuickTime brings out all the best qualities of Apple; dependability, efficiency, & a gorgeous interface. My college campus (Washington University in St. Louis) is very Mac-based, so naturally everything integrates seamlessly with everything else. As a Biomedical Engineer (BME), I require fast computing and rendering in both my computer and it's applications. Whenever I have some down time, that is when QuickTime helps us college students out; Watching movies in full screen, making our own hilarious home videos with iSight, or throwing together slideshows with pictures from the weekend. I highly recommend this program to anyone, from professionals to novices, engineers to English majors. Coming from a poor college student, QuickTime Pro 7 is a $30.00 well spent.

I bought QT Pro for one reason only - it is (apparently) the only way you can make a video loop on AppleTV (open your movie, do view>loop then save).

it performs that function flawlessly but I'm really not sure I need any of the other features of QT Pro. iMovie is a much better editing solution and I don't need the format conversion abilities - freeware like VisualHub or Handbrake already do a fine job of that for nothing.

Maybe I'm missing some killer feature but for now, 3 stars only.

I wish I knew the limitations of QuickTime Pro before I paid for it. I bought it to enable conversion of my many MPEG movie files to a format that can be played back on my iPod.

The problem being that QuickTime Pro can playback MPEG files that it can’t export properly. A lot of MPEG files are 'Multi-Plexed' (the sound and video tracks are weaved together). When QuickTime Pro exports these Multi-Plexed files it tells you that there is "No audio track in source movie" and the resulting file plays back with no sound, even though it plays the original file with sound.

Another big problem is that QuickTime Pro is very choosy as to what files you can cut and paste with. To my annoyance, you have to perform time-consuming conversions before being able to cut and paste.

For me QuickTime Pro is utterly useless, I just hope Apple will resolve these issues in a future update.

If you are thinking of purchasing QuickTime 7 Pro, make sure you know exactly what comes in it and what you plan on using it for. When it says "capture video" it means from a webcam, and "save video from internet" it means a very limited amount of videos, aka not any video from the web.

This is not what I paid for nor was it what I expected.

Quicktime is great for conversion of file formats. I've been using it to convert video files from my dark, dark days in the Windows wilderness.

Quicktime the product gets 5 stars.

However, I screwed up when I bought the product. Yes, MY error. I inadvertently purchased the Windows version. Wasn't paying attention, can't return it, lost $30.

I took away a star because Apple has created different types of keys for the different Windows and OSX versions of Quicktime. I do not understand why this is necessary. I know it's my error that cost $30, but I don't see why it has to be this way.

The moral is... LOOK BEFORE YOU BUY, don't be like me, lol.

Quicktime worked great for a time. Now it is the cause of my computer crashing. I think apple is spending too much time on iphone and not enough to make sure other products work.(yes I have the latest update)

I have the professional on my PC and I enjoy many of the pro-only features. I recently purchased a new MacBook and was shocked when I found out this 30$ piece of proprietary Apple software was NOT included with my new $1,299 Mac. I love my new MacBook and all that comes with it, but come on Apple, throw me a bone here!

Why are people complaining about $30. For the extra features it is worth it. I make quick videos using camera in the mac to send to others. Have made audio recordings of meetings that are very clear. Good upgrade. Worth it for me.
