Can I use boot camp to run windows 7 on my macbook pro and display it on my iMac?
I need to run windows instead of OSX, mostly because of the windows specific apps that I am stuck with.
But I would like to use a thunderbolt cable to pipe the display onto my 23" iMac screen.
So either I buy a PC laptop and some HDMI to thunderbolt electronics, or a Macbook pro and dual boot in Windows 7.
Firstly, is this even possible and which is the better option?
Secondly, does my iMac need to be on for me to do this?- Asked by Roy T

Best AnswerDon't dual boot, just use VMARE Fusion on the iMac and/or MacBook to run the Windows applications within OS-X. After having used Parallels for a couple years I discovered Fusion provides a lot better performance and transparent integration. It also has the advantage of running a Windows virtual machine much better within OS-X in addition to Windows applications.
Depending on which model iMac you have, you might be able to use Target Display Mode to use the iMac as a monitor for another device.

AnswerHP has Mac drivers for it on their site you can download to use with the iMac, no problem at all. It should also ask you if you want to download those drivers the first time you plug it in.

What is the differnce between the Apple LED Cinema Display (27" flat panel) and the Apple Thunderbolt Display (27-inch)?
I have a 2010 MacbbokPro without Thunderbolt.
Questions:
- Does the Thunderbolt port provide superior data transfer rates to the other ports? I presume the answer is "yes"
- If in future I upgrade to a new MacbookPro with Thunderbolt, can the Cinema Display (currently with only USB ports) also be upgraded to accept Thunderbolt? I suspect the answer is "no"- Asked by Rajiv C

Best AnswerYou cannot use a Thunderbolt display with a non-Thunderbolt Mac.
If you do not have a Thunderbolt equipped Mac, do not buy the Thunderbolt display. I recently bought an MBA (with Tbolt) and the Thunderbolt display, not realizing that the display is completely, 100% incompatible with the recent but not thunderbolt equipped MacBook Pro I also have.- Answered by Edward C from New York

can I connect multiple monitors to my iMac

Best AnswerYes!
The early iMac's have supported this, my mid 2007 has supported this, and it runs great to this day! There is an external monitor connection on the back of the iMac. Grab an adapter from the apple store, and you can connect a second monitor. If your iMac has thunderbolt ports, you can typically run up to 3 monitors including your iMac screen.- Answered by Gregory Z from Langley

What is the sound quality with the new MacBook Pro Retina receiving, storing and playing hi-res sound files?
Until Apple releases the new desktop (Mac Pro and Mac Mini) replacements for more permanent use in my main home Theater, I plan to buy the new MacBook Pro 15" Retina to use temporarily, replace it with one of the new desktops and use the 15" as my moveable main personal computer. For my wife, I already have a 17" MacBook Pro (2 months pre-Thunderbolt) and I use an iPad 2 for a lot of my needs/wants.
There is much info published about Retina, HDMI to receiver, enhanced Thunderbolt, USB 3.0 ports and other great features.
But, I can't find detailed info on high-resolution sound quality played from the new 15" Retina unit through a DAC to the amp/speakers. Can you help with some higher-end references?
Thank you! Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Regards,

Best AnswerI got the MBP with retina, and can say a few things by now.
First....the sound is excellent. What is excellent? It is very high definition, excellent stereo separation, a pleasure to listen to music, films, giving a filigran picture. It does not come with bass, but what do you expect. We must remain realistic, because some laws of physics can not be overcome. So, is the sound good? It is astounding, but with little bass. In many cases we don't need the pounding. For those moments it is surprisingly good. I did not go testing. The sound quality hit me when I played some songs the first time. That good it is.
Second....the screen....all is said 1000x over.
Third....heat....I read it was a scorcher. I have it sometimes on my body, and it is less hot than my previous MPB (late 2008), no doubt about it. I once did a stress test taxing the CPU and graphics to the max, and it rapidly increased in temp. But for normal use, other than maybe top gaming (I never do) it gets only warm, never hot.
Fourth....noise...I do not hear it. Only, under the mentioned stress test did I hear the fans clearly the first time. No wonder, of course. But remember, no HDD to make a continuous whirring noise?
All in all....a marvel....but pricey. We still can't have it all in one computer, and never will, probably.- Answered by Hans Juerg K from Pointe-claire

Astro A40's are a gaming headset that's primarily for windows. It uses dobly 7.1 technology and I was just wondering if they would work on the macbook pro with retina and give that 7.1 surround sound if used as well as the same audio quality that you get on a windoes
