- Asked about: Lightning Digital AV Adapter
AnswerNo you cannot. The Apple TV has a micro USB connection. This cable is designed for a lightning connection to HDMI. You cannot use it in reverse to send HDMI to lightning either.

Connecting Apple Tv to older TVs
I want to connect my older TV to Apple TV. My old TV is 1080i and Apple TV is 1080p. I know that there is an adapter to convert from 1080p to 1080i. I am wondering about cost and and how will this affect picture quality. Also where to purchase this adapter. The apple TV resolution does not offer 1080i in the setting selection.

AnswerI had this same question! I got some conflicting information, but I'll share it all. but the consensus was:
NO, AN ADAPTER WILL _NOT_ MAKE APPLE TV WORK ON YOUR NON-HDTV.
At the Apple Store, I spoke with a gentleman about Apple TV and its compatibility with non-HD TVs. He said that if the TV did not have an HDMI port, you could buy an adapter to go from color-coded outputs to HDMI output. Apple did not sell the cords themselves, but he told me what to look for and where to go.
When I went to a large electronics store to purchase the adapter, someone helped me find the adapter. I asked, "and this will hook up my TV to Apple TV?" He stated that no, Apple TV would NOT work on a TV without an HDMI port, adapter or no adapter.
I made several calls to other stores and got the same information:
You can purchase an adapter for your non-HD (older) TV, but it will NOT work with Apple TV.
So, before you spend $ on Apple TV and connectors/adapters, know that, according to a half dozen people with whom I spoke, it is NOT going to be successful.
NO, AN ADAPTER WILL _NOT_ MAKE APPLE TV WORK ON YOUR NON-HDTV.
I'm very sorry - learn from my mistake and either don't get Apple TV or end up buying a new HDTV (as I did) that is Apple TV-friendly.- Answered by Liz M from Bluffton

Does Apple TV support closed captioning?
As a deaf viewer, closed captioning is mandatory for enabling a viable viewing experience. I recently purchased a Roku2 device, but found the subtitles in Netflix very difficult to read (yellow text without a proper contrast background). I want to understand if that's an issue with Apple TV as well.

AnswerYes. Better still, you can shut down the ATV in the family room and the ATV in the master would give you the option of 'Resume' or 'Play From Beginning'.

AnswerDirectly to the TV. Unless you have an AV-Receiver which handles all your audio instead of the TV speakers, in which case you would connect the AppleTV to the receiver.
