Looked great...for about a week
I have a white bumper on my black iphone 4. It looked awesome and sleek for about a week or so, but after a month and a half it l ooks terrible. The rubber part of the bumper is gray, dingy looking, and chipped and peeling in places. The white plastic looks just as bad and it looks like there's a clear film that's wearing off.
Overally, very disappointed in Apple's first attempt at a case. I know it was free through the rebate program, but now I have to look for another case that doesn't look terrible. It's not as if I store my phone at the bottom of a bag of rocks and dirt, it's usually in a pocket in my purse or stuck in the back pocket of my jeans. …- Written by Julie H from Los Angeles

Buy Black
So I bought a black bumper on Day 1 when I bought my iPhone 4 and really liked the bumper. After the free case program though, EV ERYBODY has the black bumper, so I wanted to differentiate myself. So I bought the white bumper thinking it was the exact same, just white.
I was wrong. One of the things that most people HATE about the black bumper is that the "front" and "back" of the bumper (relative to the phone) is "grippy". I happen to love that it is so. It is sort of a pain to get out of my jeans pocket, but in every other situation, the grippyness works out in my favor. If I have it on a table, or it my car, or on any surface it stays put.
The white bumper does NOT have these "grippy" rubber sides, like my black one does. I don't know if this is indicative of all the colored bumpers or all of the bumpers now, but I am returning my white one and sticking with my black one. …- Written by Justin W from Rock Hill

nice look with added protection
... the bumper in white really looks good on the iPhone. I thought it would attrack dirt on white, but it hasn't even in the extre me sweaty enviroment as the gym. With my anti-glare screen protector white on black looks good. Plus I don't have to worry about lying my phone flat on it's back in fear of scratches--- the bumper keeps that from happening with added protection around the edges. …

Protects edges from drops, but color dulls and scuffs phone
I initially liked the white/grey bumper for my white iPhone 4S for the minimalist design with nice metallic look cover buttons. T he rubberized edges provided good protection for corner drops, though the glass surfaces would still need a film for protection.
However, the rubber would take on dye from clothing very easily. The bumper itself began to become loose after multiple removals. After about a year I realized that the interior of the bumper had started to rub the metal band in a way that took away the matte finish here and there. I did not expect that, but it makes sense that a flexible bumper or case would rub against the phone and possibly cause damage, especially if dirt got inside. I had tried a fully flexible case once and noticed scratches on the back glass the first day I used it (probably from sand that got into the case and moved around).
I do not recommend the bumper or any flexible case. Go with a good hard case that won't rub against the phone. …- Written by Eugene K from Bethpage

Honest Review
The iPhone 4/4s bumper is NOT worth buying due to it falls apart far too quickly. After using it for a month or so the rubbery edg e starts to become quite loose and the volume rocker also scratches the steel antenna around of the iPhone. Also it is quite EXPENSIVE, which is a rip off. Apple should retail this for $10 due to it scratches the iPhone and it is a very old case/bumper. …
