Connect your DSL or cable modem to the AirPort Extreme Base Station, then quickly set it up with the easy-to-use AirPort Utility, which is included for both Mac OS X and Windows. In minutes, you and up to 50 others can use your Mac computers or PCs to surf the web, stream video, share photos and more — without wires.1
Simultaneous dual-band Wi-Fi.
For maximum range and compatibility, AirPort Extreme works simultaneously on both the 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands, allowing all the devices on the network to use the most efficient band automatically. It uses the latest 802.11n wireless technology, so you can enjoy up to five times the Wi-Fi performance and up to twice the range of 802.11g wireless networks.2 And improvements in antenna design give you up to 50 per cent better performance and up to 25 per cent better range than with the previous-generation AirPort Extreme Base Station.3
Guest networking.
Set up a separate Wi-Fi network with a separate password for your visitors. Simply enable the guest networking feature, and your guests can use the Internet but can’t access other parts of your private network, such as your computers, printers and attached hard drives.
Print without wires.
Have several computers in your home or office but only one printer? No problem. Just connect a compatible printer to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme Base Station, and the printer instantly becomes available to all the computers (Mac and PC) on your wireless or wired network. Share your hard drive.
You can share an external USB hard drive over your wireless and wired networks by simply connecting it to the USB port on your AirPort Extreme Base Station. Called AirPort Disk, this feature is perfect for sharing files and more. If you’re a MobileMe member using a Mac with Mac OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard, you can even access the files on the drive over the Internet.4

Just works since the day I took it out of the box. No reboots, no slow service. The device is transparent - exactly what you want from a wireless netwroking device. Delivers great reception throughout the house. I keep this in a enclosed bookshelf, on top of my DVR (not the best location), and it just plugs away. No overheating, no worries. This is the best wireless router that I have found on the market and have used. I have never had to reset this
, never had any kick offs like with other routers. I have it in my basements, in my office. My wife works upstairs

I have used this router for 8 months. Great replacement coming from linksys routers. Setup was a bit lengthy but after the setup the router hasn't been off since. Airport Extreme truly sets a precedent when coming to consumer routers. …More

wonderful piece of hardware and software from apple! worked right out of the box, with just the right time taken to setup my 1 wired computer and 3 wireless laptops, some running XP some - Vista. Comment: if you are replacing your older wireless router with the new one, do not forget to restart (turn off then on) your cable modem after switching your wireless routers. this step was not in the manual.
Printer discovery via Bonjour worked like a charm from all machines. Previously, i tried using iomega ix2-200 NAS with print server functionality - it was asking me to reinstall printer driver every time i tried to print from a different pc. sent it back. AirPort prints from all pc's without a glitch.
did not try attaching my external usb drive yet - waiting for the usb hub to come in the mail.
download speed with this apple's 801/n is much faster than what i had before with my netgear 801/g. love the product! will buy more apple's going forward. …MoreWas this useful?

After moving from PC to MAC, and seeing the benefits of how much more user friendly the Mac OS is compared to anything else available, it's no surprise that their hardware is equally as impressive. The automated installation walked me through the entire process of setting up my home network, and not just a simple one, but with multiple hard-drives, Time-Machines, printer, Sonos music system and other peripherals. It detected all attached devices, and set itself up to allow access to all. My Macbook and Mac-Mini were recognized, and within minutes i was able to move files from one machine to another, to use my iPhone to control Sonos, and to set up a secure network in less time than it took me to read the installation instructions for my previous Routers. I've read the problems associate with the dedicated "time-capsules" and i can only say that my base-station with attached HD's set up as time-capsules and extra-storage has proven to be another example of why Apple is the one to beat. …More

I'll admit that it was a little difficult to set up a new network straight out of the box, but I was starting from the ground up and some of it might have been user error. Since then I have not been disappointed. I have reliable wireless internet that can be reached in insane places around the house. My biggest complaint could be a weakness or a strength--you must set up a good password. My neighbors a few houses down can pick up my network. It's a very weak signal, but if it weren't password protected, the whole neighborhood could "borrow" my internet. …More

Technically no, but for certain customers, their environments may make it seem so. Wireless interference is one of the main causes for certain customers having a bad experience with the Airport products. Take note of how many other wireless networks are around and what devices are in the same area that utilize similar wireless technology. The Airport devices use same wireless technology and consist of the same hardware. With the Airport Extreme, you get the Dual-band feature and the extra ethernet ports.
