  • Doesn't work with Samsung TV

    I'm very disappointed with this. I bought a new MacBook last week and got the VGA adapter so I could use it with my TV as I did my old PowerBook G4 (via the Mini-DVI to VGA adapter). The new adapter worked fine when I connected it to an overhead projector, but it doesn't seem to send a readable signal to my Samsung LN40A650 television.

    I tried booting in to Windows via Boot Camp and got the same result.

    I guess I'll have to try the DVI adapter with a converter from DVI to HDMI to use this with my TV. A Mini DisplayPort to HDMI (or even regular DisplayPort, which can be directly converted without using audio) would be ideal, but there doesn't seem to be any sign of that.     …

    Output to my 22" Viewsonic is clear and crisp and setup with no effort. Seems to be of the same quality as the mini DVI to VGA ada pter which I used everyday for a year with out incident on my old macbook. Should be priced in the 14.99 - 19.99 range. …

    I can not get this thing to output to my Samsung LN-4042H 40 inch LCD. The old miniDVI to VGA worked no problem with my old MacBoo k. I have checked and it is not a TV problem, so certainly something hardware or driver related. Also $29.99 for a video dongle seems steep to me. …

  • Can't Play Itunes because of "High bandwidth digital content protection"

    You can't play itunes videos through it. I wish I could leave a review of less than 1 star. To play HD itunes videos you need a H DCP connection, aka digital. Screen output should be cut and dry. Once the computer outputs analog video, it should have nothing more to do with it and it should be able to play all files through it. Other HD videos play just fine, it is just a problem with itunes being overcomplicated. Don't buy this if you want to have anything to do with itunes videos. …

    The adapter is an active adapter which converts a digital signal with pixel clocks up to 180 MHz to an analog signal. This one pie ce of information should be mentioned in the technical specifications because it directly relates to all the resolutions and frequencies allowed by the adapter. The FAQ has a mention of maximum screen resolutions but it's not precise.

    I have a Sony GDM-F520 that can support 2048x1536 at 85Hz. Using GTF timing, the adapter will allow 2048x1536 at 41 Hz which is too slow for the CRT (minimum 47 Hz). However, CVT-RB timings also work and will allow 2048x1536 at 51 Hz. It also allows 2100x1575 at 49 Hz. CVT-RB timing may cause an issue with the left and right edge positions on a CRT though.     …
