  • Flicker, sporadic issues...

    Major issues...

First, when I plugged it into my brand new 2008 Macbook Pro I got a message saying that the USB device drew too much power! I did manage to make it work by plugging it into my monitor's USB hub, but wow...

Secondly, there is a slight flicker. You can see it clearly with certain kinds of backgrounds and fill patterns. It almost looks like the kind of noise you get with analog, except it's DVI. It's not a severe problem, but *any* flicker with DVI is ridiculous.

Finally, sometimes it just fails. The screen will go all weird, and you have to reset it. Again, it looks like an analog failure mode except it's not...

I'm going to wait a bit and then trying exchanging my adaptor at the Apple store. Maybe there are issues with the first-run units.

Apple really botched this one. Dongles are bad enough, but overpriced broken ones... come on guys...

  • Flaky performance

    1.0 out of 5 stars

I had to plug and unplug my monitor several times before it worked and even now the monitor won't wake up from sleep! Sometimes wh en it does come up it flickers and has jaggies. I have to unplug the DVI and plug it back in to get it to stop. I never had any issues at all with this monitor on my old MBP. The size of this thing it HUGE, I can't believe they couldn't make it smaller. Literally about 3x4 inches! Feels like they released a poor product AND they did it LATE!

  • Good for Macbook Pro to 30" CInema Display

I purchased this adapter as I had to after purchasing a 30 inch Apple Cinema display for use with my Mid 2009 MacBook Pro. The dev ice itself works very well and as it should, allowing a flawless connection between the two devices. However the price of £70 is ridiculous, I had no choice but to pay the fee however it shouldn't be that much, maybe £40.

If you are going to buy this and use it with a big monitor make sure that your graphics card is up to scratch as in full screen mode (watching a video or film) the monitor is dropping frames sometimes. It's really not an issue for me though. And movies in VLC media player always seem to work flawlessly for some reason.

  • First truly awful Apple product I've ever owned.

    1.0 out of 5 stars

Sorry to say it, but all the negative reviews are right. This adapter is really great at displaying snow all over your display wit h what's actually supposed to be there just barely showing through!

When it works, it works great. Problem is, it displays snow about 20 times a day.

    Total fail. :(

  • Mac Pro Retina 15"- Ultra WideScreen

    4.0 out of 5 stars

Seems to a bit of pot luck in terms of success rates with differing large format displays, be it 2560x1600 or 2560x1080, depending on manufacturer, 16:9, 21:9 aspect ratios. For those considering a Ultra wide screen (21:9), 29", I can tell you that the DL-DVI adaptor worked first up no hassles with my Philips 298P4QJEB UWD, with native resolution of 2560x1080.

The only downside is not many Apple stores stock these so have to be ordered, and are a bit pricy, however, in my case having something work first up without stuffing around with drivers, different cable options, pays for itself straight up.

I can't speak to reliability or longevity, it being new, but having it work as expected
    is a good start.
