About the Unlocked iPhone
The unlocked iPhone includes all the features of iPhone but without a wireless contract commitment. You can activate and use iPhone on the supported GSM wireless network of your choice. The unlocked iPhone 4s, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s will not work with CDMA-based carriers. An unlocked iPhone 5c or iPhone 5s may not support LTE networks in all other countries; contact service providers for details.
If you don’t want a multiyear service contract, or if you prefer to use a local carrier when traveling abroad, the unlocked iPhone is the best choice. It does not come with a micro-SIM card for iPhone 4s, or a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s, so you’ll need to get one from any supported GSM carrier worldwide. To start using it, simply insert the card into the slot on your iPhone and turn it on by pressing and holding the On/Off button for a few seconds. Then follow the on-screen instructions to set up your iPhone.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the iPhone work with any SIM card or carrier worldwide?
iPhone 4s work with micro-SIM cards, iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s work with nano-SIM cards from compatible carriers. iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s may not support LTE networks in all countries or on all carrier networks; contact service providers for details.
Where can I get a micro-SIM or nano-SIM card?
You can get a micro-SIM or nano-SIM card from any carrier offering iPhone plans.
How do I get started using the iPhone to make and receive calls?
First, insert an activated SIM card from a compatible network. Then turn on your iPhone and follow the onscreen instructions to set it up.
Do I need an iPhone-specific service plan?
Yes, you do. When you buy the iPhone from the Apple Online Store, it is sold unlocked. You can contact a carrier directly to learn about the service plans available for the iPhone.
Do I need to commit to a long-term contract for my iPhone?
Buying a SIM-free iPhone from the Apple Online Store allows you to choose your own carrier and change carriers at any time. iPhone may also be available at a lower price with a contract directly from your wireless carrier.
Do iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s accessories work with iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s?
iPhone 5c and iPhone 5s use the Lightning connector, which is different from the 30-pin connector on iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s. You can purchase a Lightning to 30-pin Adapter for use with Made for iPhone accessories except those requiring video output. Visit the iPhone Accessories section of the Apple Online Store to find out more about accessory compatibility with different iPhone models.
Do cases made for iPhone 5 also work with iPhone 5s?
While iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s have the same shape and size, the camera and LED flash are different. So cases made for iPhone 5 may affect the camera operation on iPhone 5s, and vice versa. When shopping for cases, you should choose one specifically made for the iPhone model you own.
Does the iPhone support tethering?
Yes. You can share the fast connection on your iPhone with your Mac or PC, and connect to the Internet from just about anywhere — no Wi-Fi required. Contact your carrier for details.
Can I use the SIM card in my iPhone 4s, iPhone 5c or iPhone 5s with my iPad?
No. Your iPhone 4s, iPhone 5c or iPhone 5s SIM card is not interchangeable with SIM card in your iPad.
Will all iPhone features work with my network?
Certain features such as Visual Voicemail require carrier support and may not function on your carrier’s network. Contact your carrier for more details or read the wireless carrier support and features article for more information.
Why does the price of the iPhone from the Apple Online Store differ from its price from a network?
Carriers typically sell the iPhone with a contract that subsidises the initial purchase price of the phone. By purchasing your iPhone without a contract, you can use any SIM card from a compatible carrier, including your current one.
Can I use my iPhone outside my home country?
Yes. iPhone is enabled to work on networks using GSM around the world. Because the iPhone sold by the Apple Online Store is SIM-free, you can purchase a SIM card and service from a local carrier at your destination. Or check with your home carrier regarding international roaming charges.
If I buy iPhone from this Apple Online Store, can I ship it to another country?
No. Orders placed through this Apple Online Store can be shipped only within the country of purchase. You can also shop for friends and family in countries where the iPhone is sold. Just visit the local store of the country where you want your products delivered. Or for fast, easy ordering and expert advice, just call an Apple Online Store Specialist on 1800-80-6419.
