    Not for professional use

    • Written by from Putney

Was hoping to use this while travelling with my DSLR instead of lugging around my MBP. I only shoot in RAW which is fine because it supports the Canon 6D. HOWEVER... Insert your SD card and it will literally take hours to 'find' all the files on the card and then after waiting for ages for it to find them all it will generate previews for you. Only once this is done can you choose which ones you want to import. So in essence it's useless unless you have a whole evening spare.

Save yourself £25 and use Canon's free remote where you can transfer the files to hour iPad over wifi, sure it's not RAW but it's quick. Guess my iPad Air won't be replacing my MBP on the go anytime soon. Shame.

    Product name is misleading

    • Written by from Yarralumla

This should be called "iPad lightning to SD card reader". I went to the apple store in Paris, asked for an SD card reader for my iPhone. I pulled the iPhone out of my pocket, showed it to them and they sold me this. Which doesn't work. Now I'm hundreds of kms away, can't upload photos off my card for my family. Either make the title more explicit, or fix whatever issue is stopping this from 'just working' the way the rest of the Apple family does. Not good enough Apple. If I read 'lightning' and 'SD Card' am I not entitled to assume that a device with a lightning port could use this to read from an SD card?

    Does not work on iPhone

    • Written by from Pershore

Only works with iPad, not iPhone. This ought to be reflected in the product name by adding "for iPad". Better still, why don't Apple add support for it to the iPhone? Apple Premium Reseller actually took mine back, tested it and then issued a replacement because they also thought it worked with iPhone. I want to be able to back up photos onto iPhone when travelling and use photos for blog.

Integration with iPad is also an issue. Intermittently, the iPad Mini does not recognise it. It does work well most of the time.

Finally, as with other reviewers, I feel ripped off by Apple as the USB adaptor is now a separate item at another £25 when previous generations supported twin connectors. Similarly, iPad 2 will not work with the adaptor previously purchased for my iPod Classic (iPod with Video).

Works with iPad 4 (Retina) and 16 GB SDHC (for me)

    • Written by from San Jose

W00t! After agonizing over buying this I found it works with with my iPad and my largest SD card (Lexar Platinum II 16 GB 100x SDHC).

The photos were from a Canon ELPH 300HS PowerShot

    1. Put SD card into reader
    2. Connect iPad
    3. Turn on iPad
    4. Photos app automatically opens
    5. Click import

SD card photos appear as thumbnails. You have the option to import all or import selected. I didn't see a way to preview full size before import.

After importing the app gives an option to delete the imported photos or keep them.

The photos are now in the iPad. There are folders for last imported and imported.

From my iPad, I can then post to Facebook, Flickr, etc.

    Now off to Italy!

    Unusable

    • Written by from Smithsburg

I purchased this product to take on a trip so that I could review and upload my photos to shutterfly. Unfortunately i will not be able to take as many photos as I would like as this product does not work. I have purchased several types of SD cards along with using ones I currently own and it just will not read the card. I am returning this one and will wait and hope a better model comes out as this seems to be a problem that many people are experiencing.

I bought this camera reader for my iPad air. I currently use a GoPro Hero 3 silver to shoot videos and sometimes pictures. The iPad air can transfer videos at 60fps and 120fps, and im able to edit on imovie. Excellent kit to edit GoPro videos on the go.

Used the camera reader on my new iPad Air with a card from my digital photo frame, didn't work. Tried an old 512mb card found in an old camera, worked great! Bought a new 32 g, sandisk sdhc ultra, Doesn't work!!! Obviously it's the card!

Solution when SD card does not appear to connect

    • Written by from Ramsgate

When I first tried to upload it would not work - this was from a SD card which I transferred some pics from my computer. However when I created a folder called DCIM on the card and transferred the same pictures into the DCIM folder, they were instantly recognised on my IPAD air via the DS card adapter - now happy

Bought this for a vacation I'm going on since I'm not planning to take my MacBook Pro on the road. I can now take pictures freely with my DSLR and transfer them to my iPad in a matter of 1 minute! Simple and easy to work with. I recommend it to everyone!

I am confused as to why so many are having issues with this reader. This is for iPad only and not iPhone or iPod; that would be nice.
I am using this on an iPad mini 1st generation with ios7.1.1 and a Sandisk 8gig sdhc ultra card formatted with a Nikon Collpix L120.
Maybe it's the sdhc or the ultra speed of the card? Maybe it's the version of ios? The reader I bought had been opened apparently and returned to Radio Shack because the internal packaging was damaged so it did not work for somebody else. The format of the pictures and the protective lock on the card should be considered as well. I put the card in the reader, pluged the reader in the ipad and the photo app opened automatically with the import icon. It also gave the option to delete the copies on the card, nice. I susspect you Google employees need to stop reviewing Apple products as well, I have seen evidence of that here.

    Works like a charm

    • Written by from Springwood

Bought this yesterday from the Apple store. Came home, plugged small end into my iPad Air, placed my sd card from my NIkon D3100 into the larger end .. The photos app launched and my photos appeared on my ipad ... Asking me if I wished to import all or select photos to import. So easy. Just tried with another sd card on my Ipad Mini and I had to open the photos app, then down the bottom next to albums is a camera with import written underneath. Just click that and away you go. Just what I want. Don't understand why people are having probs. perhaps get them checked out by Apple to see if they are faulty. I am very happy with my purchase.

I was nervous buying this after reading some of the negative reviews. I am not technical at all but found this to do exactly what it said it would. SD card in, up came all of my photos that uploaded onto the iPad really quickly. Easy peasy, even for me! Highly recommended from me, thank you!

    High price, low quality

    • Written by from Maidstone

Bought this for transferring photos to my iPad mini, having had the previous 30-pin version for my wife's iPad 2.

Firstly, you only get the SD Card Reader, not the USB camera reader (which the 30-pin camera kit included) making the lightning version £50 instead of £25 if you want both.

I had the connector for a few weeks, most of which it spent in a drawer, and now it reports "Device not compatible" when used and won't transfer photos from any SD Card. Expensive and unreliable.

I'm taking it back to the shop.

Two Readers, Two Ipads, neither work!

    • Written by from Winter springs

I bought two of these card readers and tried them on my Ipad Air and my Ipad 4. Both ipads gave me a message that the device was not supported. I switched the reader and still had the same problem. I switched the SD cards, and STILL had the same problem. At $30 each for these non-working trinkets...I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED!

    Does not recognize AVCHD videos

I have a video camera Panasonic HC-X920 that shoots both videos and pictures. I am using a SD-HC 16 gb memory card. While the reader can import pictures into my IPAD, it does not recognize the videos clips that are in AVCHD format. Huge disappointment

    • Written by from bristol

I wanted to find a Lightening Sd card reader if there was such a thing to backup pics from my DSLR onto my Iphone 5 and Ipad. This was what I explained to the staff in the store. " lightning SD card reader to use with my Iphone & Ipad"

They showed me this product which I thought great I'll have it even at £25.

Guess what: Just trying it on my Iphone and it does not work which I was not told about even though I said I wanted to use this on Both my Iphone and Ipad.

Going to get my money back. Very poor
