I tried the Amazon Basic DVD drive, but the speed is so slow that I had to return it. The Apple USB SuperDrive doesn't have this problem, though.

Seriously. The retina display has a resolution of 2880 x 1800. I think it's time for 1080p viewability.

Although it still irks me that such a device is even necessary in this day and age. Sure improved portability is a nice feature but taking away the optical disk drive to do so seems silly. Overall no complaints, however.

This product is awesome, with it reading and burning discs very very fast. It has not let me down since i purchased it last year. One problem is the price. It is just too high, as with all apple products. Overall, it is an awesome product. Keep it up apple!

The high point is what you usual I picked this up for my wife's 5k iMac so she could easily burn DVDs for her photography clients. The high point is what you usually get with Apple products: It's definitely sleek and sexy. Beyond that, the product reminds me of how exciting 2007 was, before we had Blu-Ray burners and USB 3. With USB 2 transfer speeds and no Blu-Ray codec, this should be no more than $25. It is an embarrassment and a shame to Apple.

One replacement came DOA. It won't accept DVDs just spits it out. When it does accept the disc, DVD Player can't play it.

Unit stays home most of the time and when in transport, carried in its original shipping foam-encapsulated box. Still fails after few use.

There must be other portable USB SuperDrive that works on a Mac that is far more reliable. Get those instead, and give up the sleek looks. This model is junk.
