I can't see what everyone is complaining about?? I love it, it's a perfect cover and it stands my mini up really well in fact it's more sturdy than the Smart Cover on my iPad 3rd gen!!!
I've bought 3 cases now from eBay and I wish I had just bought this first because together with a gel shell for the back it's spot on!

What an utter waste of money - the product is absolutely useless. It does not do the job - if you just want a cover then it's OK, but not for anything else. The magnet is too week to hold the ipad securely, and if you're not careful then you are at risk of the ipad dropping.

There are so many poor ratings for the iPad Mini Smart Cover, but it's sleek, well designed, easy to use and fits the iPad Mini perfectly. I probably would not recommend it if your young child is going to use it (for fear of sticky fingerprints on the fabric side of the cover as much as damage to the iPad!)

A couple of tips - firstly, don't attempt to pick up or hold your iPad Mini by the cover, secondly, if you fold the cover inside out to form the stand, it won't collapse.

It isn't cheap but then neither is the iPad Mini - which you are already paying a premium for the gorgeous design and function - so it's a shame to compromise on the cover.

Finally, if you are concerned about the back or sides of your iPad Mini becoming scratched, well, if it does you can then buy one of the inferior covers to hide it!!

Overall, I am really pleased with mine.

Buy this if you only want a cover. It is hopeless as a stand.

No protection given to the back or sides of the iPad! There are plenty of other cases out there with the same folding magnetic design and hard shell for the back of the iPad, all of which are £10-£20 cheaper. Disappointed!

I am extremely disappointed with this cover for the price I paid for it. I thought I would buy a proper cover to protect my expensive new ipad mini & forked out £35 for it, which quite frankly is a complete rip off for what is basically a rectangle of coloured polyurethane with a magnet in it that only covers the front screen. It offers very little protection especially from knocks or drops & if you pick up the iPad by the cover the iPad drops off the cover, so be warned!
I have ended up buying a more substantial case elsewhere which fits like a glove, came in a choice of colours, offers loads more protection, has more features (i.e. rotates so ipad also stands 'potrait' in 2 positions) & came with a stylus, screen protector & cleaning cloth, delivered to my door for just under £10!!! I really wish I had not bothered to buy the Apple cover & saved my money to spend on some Apps instead which I now cannot warrant paying for having wasted £35 on a useless cover which has just been thrown in a drawer probably never to see the light of day again :-(
The iPad Mini itself however is a fantastic piece of kit.

For Christmas I was given an iPad mini from my husband and was really excited! The first working day after christmas I went to the Apple store to buy a mini cover for it as I didn't want to ruin it as i had a friend who had dropped hers before and I didn't want that to happen to mine. So I bought the iPad mini cover in red, it seemed like a good design and I put my trust in the apple product. I got home and attached the magnetic cover and was using it for about an hour when I noticed the cover was leaving a mark on the screen so I tried wiping the screen whilst holding the ipad and the cover in both my hands. The next thing the iPad mini was on the floor screen down I was horrified!!!!! I picked it up and the glass screen was really smashed with a dent in the corner where the on/off buttons is and I was left holding the red iPad mini cover! It had detached itself!!!! The magnetic action was so weak it did not withstand me holding the cover only with the iPad attached so I am left with a smashed Christmas present because the design of the iPad mini is so weak!!!!! It easily detached!!!!! Fortunately it is still functioning but it looks awful now!!!!! I am meeting with Apple on Friday to discuss this disastrous situation!!! If I had known the magnetic fitting was so weak I would NEVER have bought it!!! The whole idea of buying the cover was to protect the screen but in fact it did quite the opposite!!!!!! I now own a smashed iPad mini!!!! Here's hoping for a good result with my meeting with Apple on Friday!!!! I would not recommend this product at all in fact I think they should take it off the market!!!!!

Having read the negative reviews I was expecting worse. The magnets on the side work very well and it looks good. There is some movement, but only a couple of mm, due to the fabric hinge and the magnet on the front could be a bit stronger but all in all I like it and still think its streets ahead of the other covers available.

Having had the iPad 2 with a Smart Cover, I was expecting the same standards on the iPad mini Smart Cover.

The lack of colours and materials is disappointing but the build quality seems good. However, when using the cover, it slides around a lot and doesn't sit securely on the iPad. The original smart covers would sit flush and not move until you moved it.

It seems the magnets used are too weak as when folded back and used as a stand, it doesn't take much to collapse.

My partner also bought one and is having the same problems so I don't think this is a one off.

First time disappointed by and apple product, lets hope this isn't a trend!

    iPad Mini Smart cover.

I have an iPad with a smart cover and it works really well. So when I ordered my iPad Mini I bought a Smart Cover at the same time.
    Bad move!
The cover sits on the top of the Mini ok but when you try to fold it back to act as a stand the Mini collapses the first time you use it!!!
To add insult to injury when I contacted Apple Support to see if I somehow had a dud one their reply simply refered me to the FAQ section which if of no use at all. And when I arranged to speak to someone on an appointment call they failed to get back to me TWICE!!!
I like Apple products, I'm currently considering an iMac to replace my PC; and in the past have had good support: but this time Apple have really let the side down.
Come on Apple we all can't be wrong.

My mini has "flopped' over numerous times and crashed onto the table when using the smart cover as a stand. It is very unstable! I am giving up and getting a keyboard that will serve as a cover and a stand. Seriously, Apple! Make a protective cover that doesn't jeopardize our investment!!!

Nice looking but a very poor stand for ipad mini

when using the cover as the stand, it is unstable and the device falls over when you touch the screen or use the side buttons. it is far less stable than using the smart cover on an ipad. although it works fine as long as you don't try to touch the screen when using the stand..

This case is really good, I will admit the magnets can be bad but only if you do not use the case how it is supposed to be. You need to use the case to cover screen, you can always take it off. It is a bit overpriced, and I would choose the mini smart case when it comes out, but overall a really good case, just don't try pick it up by the case, it is held on by magnets after all.

Fantastic product, clevery designed, and very much in the scheme of slim design of mini. I would have given it a 5 star but for the price, outrageous but I could afford it!
Word of warning - I bought the light grey first and had to return it. It shows every mark especially newspaper print marks from fingers, due to rubberised surface quite difficult to clean. I should have known but kidded myself i would keep it clean

    Top marks for cool design

Cover definitely won't protect the iPad if its going to be dropped etc... So I agree with the other review. It's really a screen protector. I like the minimal approach and it adds no bulk to the pad. If you only want something that protects the screen when not in use then this would do. If you need more protection then better look somewhere else.
I really like this cover, it's perfect for me and I think the design is cool so top marks.
Another note, the cover only covers the screen, so the back of iPad is exposed.

    Good and the bad

Now first off let me say I received the case with with iPad and paid for neither so I am in no means moaning, but the case on the left side when in portrait mode where the hinge flap is loosens and leaves a gap when the flap is folded behind the iPad. I found this to be annoying as I would have to almost push it back in when finished on the iPad. However the good points it looks stylish and sleek it barely adds any bulk to the device, it keeps the device secure and safe when dropped. The wake up function of the magnet is great also but a problem with the folding stand is the viewing angle isn't the best and it doesn't feel as stable as other stands. My overall impression is that it is a great product if received as a gift but to pay 35 pounds for it is absurd when there are much better products on the market for a fraction of the cost.

Looks nice, fits well and switches the pad on and off.

However....because it is seamlessly attached it gives the impression of being more securely attached than it actually is. The problem here is that it is possible to forget that you only have a magnet holding the pad and the case together. You pick the pad up by the cover, the pad then drops away from the cover on to the floor and, as happened in our case, cracks the screen. (On our day-old pad).

This is no ones fault but ours and I am only posting this as a warning to all of you who buy the cover. Remember to hold the pad and cover together and never separately and never just by the cover. Use two hands – I am now paranoid!
