I have been through 4 of these chargers to date. I have stored them carefully, I have even left one in exactly the same place plugged into my socket and it has broken. I have the iPhone 5 and, like most iPhones, its battery life doesn't last a day so to correct this flaw charging is naturally important. Sadly, I can't. These chargers break within the week. Annoyingly, Apple have also made it so that only Belkin third party chargers work, so I cannot buy a better built charger for much less than a small car. On the Apple site, chargers are £15 and at my local Apple reseller they are £25. I am now forced to buy another charger else I'll be without a phone, taking my total spend to £70 just to charge my iPhone! This is frankly ridiculous and my next phone, assuming there isn't a major improvement in the battery life or the charging cable, will be an android phone.

    Bad quality

    • Written by from Odense

Unfortunately it is impossible giving less than 1 star, but the cables that Apple produce don't deserve a single star. I buy new iPhone and iPad every time they come out and have bought numerous cables through the Apple Store and almost all of them start to break. I am always careful with my things and always avoid bending the cables to sharply, but still they begin breaking relative fast. The rubber seems like getting very brittle. How can a company that focuses so much on quality live with themselves, knowingly delivering inferior quality cables. They should be ashamed of themselves especially considering the price of the cables.

    Expensive poor quality cable

    • Written by from Gainsborough

The cable came new with my phone which I bought directly from Apple, within a couple a months the first cable broke. I'm now on my third cable, I cannot believe how rubbish and poor quality these cables are and what a rip off! I'm a student and having to pay £15 each time for a poor quality cable that breaks by no fault of my own is outrageous!

15 pound a month to charge your iPhone

    • Written by from Swindon

Had my iPhone less than 4 weeks, on my 2nd lightning cable now... This cable is actually worse than the "L" connector power adaptor for my MacBook. Unfortunately I cannot recommend an acceptable replacement as I haven't found one yet. but when I do I will be using it instead.

Apple Accessories were pioneered with an 18 month expected product life cycle, this particular accessory appears to have an 18 hour life cycle.

    Very bad quality product

    • Written by from Trethomas

I have only ever bought official Apple accessories for my phone especially when it comes to chargers and cables. This is because I know the cable for charging is important and using a cheap after market cable can be very bad for the phone and in extreme cases blow up your I-phone. So I have spent lots of money just for the apple cables but they keep breaking on me. I have had 3 now and all 3 are breaking at the end where the wire connects to the lightning tip. It is so disappointing to keep on buying cables and have them break...!!! Apple really have to buck up or I will not be buying from them any longer. I have had I phones since the i phone 3 and that’s gonna stop if there are no improvements. Its not even as if i mistreat
the cable......its at my office desk and all i do is plug it in everyday and i dont even pull it by the cord.....!! Apple, you better shape up or ship out....!!! how can they produce such good high quality products but have bad vital accessories like this???

I've had two of these break in the space of a month. Both times the connection became loose next to the lightning plug.

Does Apple even read these reviews?! I am so disappointed with the cable. Lasted a couple of weeks before I noticed it was giving me electric shocks and wouldn't charge my phone! This is a complete joke! What a waste of money. Love all the other apple products, but the cable really needs to be fixed.

    • Written by from St Albans

I've had to buy 5 of these cables and each time they come lose and break. I really wish apple would sort out this design fault. At this rate I won't be purchasing any more apple products as I can't afford to keep buying replacement chargers.

    Another dead cable over here

    • Written by from Reading

I seem to have acquired the same expensive hobby as many others - collecting dead Lightning cables. Sorry but those few who insist everyone is wrong and it's just a dusty port on the phone....I think you are lucky or mistaken. I have two separate devices, both of which work fine with other cables but neither of which work with the dead one. So I don't think it's worth getting up inside my iPhone Lightning port with a paperclip (shudder!) as someone suggested.

These cables are terrible quality and value but it seems like Apple is making too much money at the moment to care about it.

    RUBBISH

    • Written by from beverley

Worst Apple product I have ever had to use. I not even had my iPhone 6 months and I'm on my 5th charger!!! They say you can take them with your receipt to swap them but the nearest store to me is well over an hour away! Exactly the same has happened to both my mum and sister! They really need to realise and sort it out pronto.

I'm adding my frustration with the quality of the Apple supplied lightening to USB Cable or it's docking port, for the mini ipad2 I own, to the long list of other contributors and repeat the request that Apple address this recurrent problem ASAP.

    Extremely Unimpressed

    • Written by from Paisley

I am so frustrated by having to constantly buy new iphone 5S cables. after a few weeks, they start intermittently charging/not charging, and if i plug the cable into my MacBook Air the charging sound bleeps constantly twice per second. This means I cannot upload my pictures to aperture or sync the phone to iTunes. I went into the Apple store to report this thinking it was my MBA that was the issue, and the Genius Bar guy said it was more likely the cable that was faulty. He plugged my iPhone into my MBA with his Genius Bar Cable, which had blue INSULATING TAPE on the section of the cable that is susceptible to the damage. So if Apples cables are becoming damaged, surely they can sort it out and make a change to the material they use to make them. I usually love apple design and i do like the connector on the cable, I just wish they had used a better quality sleeve for the cable. If the motivation was "less plastic used, happier planet" then they have failed to consider that I have had to dispose of more cables this year that I have since the first iPhone came out. Absolute Mince.

    Hmmm

    • Written by from Cardiff

Mine also broke after just over a year, thankfully I'd already bought a spare when I was on holiday in the States (they're marginally cheaper over there). When I went to the Cardiff store to see if they could fix it they said that it breaks when it twists if you use it while it's charging. But I agree Apple should make a product that is sturdier and able to withstand this sort of usage.

So moral of the story - don't use it while it's charging kids! ;-)

Worst charging cable that has ever existed!

    • Written by from ringwood

I am tired of constantly after a few weeks having to purchase new lightening cables. They have a very short shelf life before crumpling at the ends, which then signifies the end of the USB cable as it no longer charges efficiently- or occasionally not at all. I wish Apple would sort this issue out as I am most certainly considering changing phones (despite the fact I love my iPhone) for such a simple thing. Apple are losing valued and loyal customers as they appear to simply be ignoring our complaints!

Is Apple going to start handing these out for free please????
