    iPad 2 smart case

Best case ever! Very easy to clean after little kids sticky fingers and throwing about, a wipe with a damp cloth and its new again.

Excellent all round protect better than leather by miles.

    • Written by from borehamwood

This case is excellent as it gives all round protection and the cover part does not come away as the Smart Cover does which was very annoying. I love the polyurethane material as it always stays bright and cleanable. I think this is the main advantage over the leather cases by apple and I also find I get a better grip with this case. I am preferring not to upgrade my iPad now because Apple does not do a smart case in polyurethane for the ipad air2. It is also more affordable.

    Excellent Product

I have had my case for about three years and it still feels new. Very resilient and durable and when I buy my next ipad I will definitely buy exactly the same product again.

    It only lasted ten months

    • Written by from London

I loved my case at first.
Unfortunately it only lasted ten months. As it's quite expensive and there isn't much too it, I would have expected it to last longer. The seams all started to split apart. They are just joined with glue.
    Pity.

    Very poor quality - avoid!

    • Written by from Montrose

I purchased my first case with my iPad 4 just over a year ago. Never a perfect fit, within a couple of months it stretched enough that the iPad would occasionally pop out of the case. I returned to the Apple Store where I bought both items and they replaced the case without question. Now, some eight months later, the seam along the bottom edge of my second case has split open.

I am quite frankly appalled that such a product is sold by Apple who have a reputation for building quality products. I intend to return to the store again to complain about this.

    not so Smart case

    • Written by from LEEK

Like others I bought the case with the ipad 3 as I thought the genuine all round case would be of higher quality than it has turned out to be. Mine has split at the to and bottom, the ipad is now not secure so I will go back to using a £3 one that I bought for my ipad 2 a year before that. It would be a nice gesture of apple to offer a discount or a trade in for us, but I'm sure this will not be seen as necessary. On a more positive note the current genuine leather case I have on my iPad Air is lasting very well as it is almost a year old now and has no sign of wear, it was flippin' expensive though for a case.

CASE SPLITS AT SEAM - AVOID

    • Written by from Exeter

I am a dedicated Mac fan because of the excellent design and build quality. Sadly this case fails. It has split apart along the seam that joins the back to the front retaining edge. And this is not due to the iPad being removed all the time. It has been simply left in place. This issue has been noted by several other reviewers. Maybe the latest Air case is better, but the previous model is best avoided. Check the Air case reviews in a few months and this should reveal if the problem has been addressed. But for now - best look elsewhere.

    Disappointing

    • Written by from HEMEL HEMPSTEAD

Put up with this case for about a year before I replaced it. The iPad 4 is very loose in the case and often popped out at the corner. The bonding between the back and the front gave out and gradually split apart.
Really disappointed especially from a company who have always had a reputation on good quality

    Not great

    • Written by from London

I can't recommend this case. It's not comfortable to hold. The "stand" is unstable. It gets dirty very quickly and mine allowed grit to get inside and marked the back of my iPad. Then it fell part after 3 months.
    Look elsewhere.

    Totally rubbish

    • Written by from birmingham

I have this case in red and it's totally rubbish, it has literally fallen apart and I've not had it that long. I would definitely not recommend anyone to buy this product. It is a total waste of money. I would have posted pictures of how it has fallen apart but there is no option to attach photos.

    Disappointed.

    • Written by from Dunfermline

My iPad Smart Case is now coming apart at the edges and my iPad falls out! I have had it for a year and a half now but am disappointed to say the least because I specifically chose an Apple case, expecting it to last. I haven't been careless with the case or anything, it just fell apart.

Another issue is that the "stand" does not give a stable base for the iPad when in the vertical position and even the slightest tap will knock it over. However, if used in the typing position it does work well.

Improvements could also be made to the case to make it comfier to hold in your hands, as the edge of the case is actually quite sharp and digs in when you hold the iPad for any length of time.

The case did fit well at first and I loved the all round protection it provides but when I paid £39 I expected better.

    Great Case........while it lasts

    • Written by from Bournemouth

I have had this case for about a year and during that time it has been very effective at caring for my iPad.

However, I have noticed that the edges can end up pressing into your finger skin if you are holding the iPad for some time; this has lead to some new callouses for me!

Not withstanding that, the biggest failing for me is that the edges have now failed i.e. begun to come apart at the seams. It is for this reason that I only give this item 3 stars

    Great for 11 months

    • Written by from Chislehurst

Great case for the fourth gen iPad but after 11 months, the bottom of the case has split and no longer holds the iPad securely. £40 should last more than a year in my opinion as I now have to spend a decent amount of money on another case (not this one). Highly recommended whilst it worked though...

Poorly made and NOT for iPad 4th gen.

    • Written by from BEXLEYHEATH

I have a 4th generation iPad, and the case always felt really loose. Now, after a year, the case has completely split open on the right and bottom (happened gradually over the last 3 months), making it unusable. Thanks a lot Apple!!!

    Not Very Good!

    • Written by from Wigan

This case fits the iPad good but it is loose round the left and right edges but it does it job like Apple says it protect the front and back of the iPad aswell as cleans the screen with the microfiber cloth on the inside screen cleaner. It also protects the back of ten iPad aswell as the volume buttons and the sleep/wake button. Not worth the £39.00 apple charge though

    Great at first......

    • Written by from CARDIFF

Was pleased with this case when purchased 15 months ago. Although would mention that the fit was not always perfect. However it is now showing signs of wear. The case is coming apart on one side and the edge of the cover is now white all the way around. Looks terrible. At this price I would expect it to have lasted somewhat longer notwithstanding that it is in use for quite a few hours everyday!

    Not worth the money

    • Written by from Grantham

We bought this case for our ipad and were initially very impressed. We wanted a decent level of protection as we were moving to Australia and wanted to take our ipad on the plane etc without worrying. Our case has completely fallen apart and is now absolutely useless. For the amount we paid I expected it to last longer. We took it to our local Australian Apple shop who said they have seen this before but couldn't help us as the case was bought in the UK, pretty disappointed. Wouldn't recommend unless you are looking for something short term.

Original iPad case was bad. No change.

    • Written by from Swindon

The original ipad case wouldn't allow you to use a dock because of protruding seams. This new case is just as bad - no worse. Sharp edges, loose fitting and the plastic welding around the connector hole has started separating. So it is only a matter if time before it falls apart completely. Shame apple corp doesn't spend as much time designing accessories as they do on slick UI. Won't buy an Apple case again. Very poor.

    Not a quality product!

    • Written by from chorleywood

If you decide to spend a few hundred pounds on an ipad retina then you would think a genuine Apple case would protect it? Wrong!!
This case is just awful. It doesn't fit snuggly around the device, It bows out around both sides so essentially the ipad is only held by the top and bottom. The edges of the case are quite sharp so if used for a period of time then it becomes uncomfortable.
I would advise against anyone purchasing this product. Very disappointed.

    Terrible - waste of money

    • Written by from Sudbury

I'm the most careful user of anything!

However, this so-called 'Smart' case if far from adequate. At £40, I expect more than 6 months usage from it. The folding design doesn't give enough of a base for the iPad to stand-up on, meaning it's top-heavy and falls over.

The fabric lining has come away from the actual inside bits, so it looks extremely tatty, and offers no screen protection any more. The poly edges have also discoloured and dog-eared. It also shows up so many stains - it's disgusting! I can't imagine what it must look like if it was an unclean person using it!

The case has sagged away from the hinge meaning the magnets no longer line up properly, rendering the automatic on/off function useless. I found that out the hard way when I shut the cover, came back hours later to find the battery had gone dead as it had been on all that time!

The cover leaves streaks of grease on the iPad screen which looks horrid. It also causes more scratch damage than it stops... They way the cover folds back on itself to stand up, means the *inside* of it is standing on the surface. Therefore any grit, dirt, crumbs etc. that are on the surface will stick to the cover, and in turn scratch against the screen on closing. You can tell when this has happened, as the scratches are perfectly straight, and parallel to the edges etc.

The cover doesn't actually provide much protection. A slight tap on the corner of the device caused the screen to crack - something that the cover should really have protected it from.

Then there's the damage it does to the back. Not only a build-up of dirt, but actually rubbing off the silver-coloured anodized back of the iPad. Mine has horrible superficial wears all along the edge, as well as two severely deep gouges that are now almost a black colour.

All in all, I suggest strongly avoiding this case. Go for a cheaper alternative, even if it means replacing it a dozen times! Still be cheaper than this.
