    Love it!

    • Written by from Knottingley

I received my iPhone 4 bumper from the bumper app a few months ago. Although I much prefer the iPhone 4 design without the bumper, it's a necessity as it stops the phone from slipping around in the car etc... due to its rubber edges. Also, with the bumper on, it lifts the phone slightly when placed on a desk, this helps the phone stay clean and scratch free. Having owned third party cases for my older iPhones, this is by far the best. I have not had any issues with the bumper feeling loose, or scratching my phone. I would highly recommend.

    Okay..

    • Written by from Thundersley

This case is okay but i thought it was going to have a back, i thought it had a plastic back. I took this case off after being on for only 2 weeks and it had left marks all over the aluminium and indentations, will be buying a different case, apart from that it gives you really good grip and it looks nice.

Damaged my iPhone rather than protecting it

    • Written by from London

I got this case as part of the free case program to solve the issues I was having with signal strength. This it did, but in it's primary function, that of protecting my phone, it not only failed but actually damaged my phone by causing scuff marks on the stainless steel edges it was supposed to protect.

The problem appears to be that the combination of hard plastic and soft rubber actually work against each other. The soft rubber makes the case flexible and able to move against the phone and the hard plastic rubs against the steel, thus tarnishing it. I have been to the store for a replacement handset and have switched case. If you are looking to protect your phone from damage I suggest you look elsewhere.

    Waste of £25

    • Written by from Redcar

Totally overpriced...this is a nice design and works well - but it just isn't practical. Taking in and out of your pocket weakens the strength rapidly of the slim rubber part of the bumper and then it starts to break away from the plastic. Now the bottom of my phone only has plastic and no rubber as it has fallen off.
Not only this but the plastic also scratches the silver band around the iPhone.
Totally overpriced - rediculously! This is worth no more than £5...nevermind £25 and I'm glad this came free in the recent programme for iPhone 4. I will be buying a totally different brand.

    Not recommended

I've been through two of these now and both have disintegrated. The bumper is probably OK if you're going to fit it once and then leave it on - I have to remove mine occasionally to fit my car cradle and it didn't take much before firstly the case distorted to the point where just picking it up by the sides would turn the phone on or off and then both simply disintegrated.

This is the perfect case for scratches...

    • Written by from Loughborough

This case fills nice, and as a very good quality...
However it as a loose fit and it scratches the aluminum it is supposed to protect.
So, overall this is the perfect case if you want scratches on that perfect metal bezel.

    Don't last long!

    • Written by from Chippenham

I got this case free along with thousands of others when the free case program was still live. After around two months I have noticed that the two materials (Plastic and a rubbery thing) have started to fall apart. This could be down to me taking the case off once or twice every day to dock the iPhone. I will however be getting a new bumper (This time a white one) when my black bumper finally falls apart. The build quality may be better on the coloured bumper cases as they would not have rushed as much as the free black ones (I hope)

    Poor design

    • Written by from London

I cannot charge my iphone 4 while this case is on it, which is a pretty fundamental design flaw and really irritating, especially because it is the recommended Apple case and is needed in order to get reception.

8 months old and still going strong

    • Written by from Cobh

The idea of this bumper is to protect your iPhone without taking away too much from how the phone should look & feel. I spent ages deciding between this bumper and a pouch (similar to what I used for my 3GS). I decided to go for the bumper as I wanted to be able to take the phone out of my pocket and answer instantly without messing around trying to get it out of a pouch (there is also the risk of taking it out of a pouch and then dropping it). The black bumper goes very well with the black iPhone (which is what I have).

    Pros:

    - Protects the phone if dropped on even surfaces (unintentionally tried & tested!)
    - Screen is not covered so easy to use with one hand (no messing trying to get out of a pouch)
    - The volume & sleep buttons work perfectly
    - No need to remove the bumper to charge
    - Rubber trim stops it sliding (eg. on your cars dashboard)

    Cons:

    - Does not protect the screen or back of the phone
    - Headphone port only allows Apple headphones
    - Rubber trim can make it difficult to get the phone out of your pocket (as this wears it becomes easier, maybe took the first 2 months)
    - Bumper needs to be removed to use an iPhone dock
    - Not cheap for what it is

My friend got a fake bumper from China. It lasted about a month. The plastic just broke and the volume buttons did not work properly so paying the money for the real deal is probably worth it.

Would I buy another one? Yes

    Great idea but marks phone

    • Written by from Shipton Bellinger

Loved the idea of the bumper, great design and looks great on the phone but within days of having it installed (from brand new and cleaned) I read a post from someone who said it had damaged the phone.

When I took the bumper off the stainless steel was tarnished in multiple places on all sides. Impossible most people say, it's stainless steel and the bumper is plastic/rubber.

If you don't believe it try it, most people who have used these have the same issue and the phone is forever damaged. The ONLY way to repair/fix it is to use an abrasive material to "brush" the steel and remove the marks. Not ideal.

    BUMPER WILL SCRATCH YOUR PHONE

    • Written by from High Wycombe

The Bumper looks good, fits well and provides protection, not forgetting of couse solving the arial problem on the iPhone 4 (the reason it was produced in the first place).

However, within 6 months its flimsy plastic skeleton had broken at the charging point and some of the rubber has perished. After 8 months it is finished.

The worst thing was found on removal - all of the metal sides of the phone are scratch and worn from rubbing. I am not alone in this as everyone I know with one has the same problem.

I wonder if Apple will refurb my phone for free?

    Scrathes your iPhone

    • Written by from Vanløse

    Wauv - what a disappointment.
At first I really liked the bumper: It gave the iPhone a better signal and a better grip, but my joy turned into frustration as I discoverede that the aluminum-frame on the phone got really scratched. It must be because little dust-particles rubs against the frame between the frame and the bumper.
And - as time passes - the rubber starts to fall of the bumper-frame. At least on my version.
Apple - this is a major bummer!

    Looks and feels great.

    • Written by from GLASGOW

I've been reading through all the reviews and all I see are complaints that it scratches the iphone. It doesn't seem to be in my case, I have been using this casing for 3 weeks and it didn't cause any scratches or dents whatsoever. This casing is a good buy, and I recommend to all who would like to see the flashy apple logo at the back rather than it being blocked by a plastic cover.

    Best iphone 4 case

    • Written by from Burton On Trent

This is by far the best iphone 4 case that I have bought to date. It helps with the antenna issue and also provides you with protection for the phone in case you ever drop it. This is also the by far the thinest case that is out on the market which helps keeping the iphone 4 slim. Other case such as theincase and Griffen make the iphone 4 chunky and ugly where as the bumper as stated make it a fashion accessory and keeps it slim.

i have dropped my phone several times and the bumper has saved it on many occassions as it adds a couple of mm between the phone screen from any other surface

    Nice 1 Apple

Breaks after a few months of use

    • Written by from Sheffield

Not only does this case scratch the aluminium that it is supposed to protect. It also breaks after a few months of general use. The weak points are around the headphone jack and 30pin port where the thin silicon easily stretches and breaks rendering the case useless. At £25 per case its gone to cost over £100 to case my phone for it average lifetime of 2 years.

iPhone 4 Bumper only has a short life span

    • Written by from Harrow

After buying the iPhone 4 in July 2010 and experiencing real loss of signal strength because I hold the iPhone 4 with my left hand, I applied for and received the iPhone 4 Bumper for free in September 2010.

During October, I also purchased an iPhone 4 dock so that I could charge my iPhone on my desk.

It appears that the iPhone Bumper designer at Apple did not consider the inconvenience that one has to go through everyday in having to put on and remove the iPhone Bumper when ever one want to charge up the iPhone, because you cannot place the iPhone 4 onto the iPhone Dock with the Bumper on. You have to do the same with the standard USB charger cable that Apple supplied with the iPhone. The designer also did not consider the quality and robustness of the materials to use for the iPhone 4 Bumper in order for it to withstand daily use.

I have now only had the iPhone 4 Bumper for 4 months and it has developed a split at the bottom end of the case, rendering it almost unusable.

So it seems giving out free iPhone 4 Bumpers was only a 'temporary fix' as if I now wish to purchase another Bumper (or anything else to protect my iPhone 4), it is going to cost me at least £25!
