It does work, but you cant review Pics before Importing

    • Written by from Wimbledon

I bought this so that I could plug in SD cards and review pictures on my ipad. Unfortunately although it does show thumbnails of the images from the card, the only way to actually view a full size version is to import them first.

This is a pain as you dont always want to import all images before seeing them full size and the image size can be quite large, quickly filling even a 64gb iPad up.

If it showed the full size image without importing, like many other products on the market it would be a great bit of kit, as it stands it's not ideal.

    Fantastic addition

    • Written by from SCUNTHORPE

I was on holiday and completely frustrated by the fact that all my pics were on my camera and I wasn't able to see them on the HD screen of my new shiny iPad. After buying this simple and affordable kit I'm totally amazed by how easy it is to import the pictures from my phone. Just plug it in and go.

Note: you can only import newly taken pics in the original camera format. It doesn't work if you copy pictures to an SD card and try to import them.

Doesn't connect to my Canon SLR

    Rubbish really
Unfortunately zero stars are not an option
What more is there to say, other than it would be nice if apple published a list of compatable cameras

Works for Canon G12 & SanDisk SD cards

    • Written by from Portsmouth

After reading all 87 reviews I decided to purchase this from a store, where I could try out both of the connectors before buying (much to the amusement of the staff in the Currys / PCWorld store).

I’ve a Canon Powershot G12 and use SanDisk memory cards (1Gb); iPad2 is running 4.3.5.

Both connectors worked first time; the transfer speed from the SD card was very quick, and only slightly slower using the cable. Hope they continue to work so well.

    Tempremental

    • Written by from Glenrothes

I have found the camera kit very unreliable. It connected perfectly to my ipad then became tempremental. Now it no longer works and tells me It takes too much power. I cannot find a fix for this any where. Come on Apple get your act in gear as I love it when it works........

Apple card reader for IPad 2

    • Written by from Blackpool

I received my I pad as a present for my birthday in January 2012. I purchased the apple IPad connection kit today. My IPad knows it is an Apple kit, but there is no way I can get it to load from an SD card. The USB connection slot will not load either.

I am getting error messages to state that there is not enough memory. My SD card holds 3 photos amounting to less than 1mg. To say I am confused and disappointed is putting it mildly

I contacted Apple but they didn't know why and advised I should take to an Apple store. The nearest store is over 50 miles away. They did say the connection device will not work with Sony. But I tried to load pictures taken by my phone, which is a Samson. I read some of the comments and it seems there is a problem with the memory on IPad 2'. However the Jury is out and I am open to suggestions. If it will not work I will give the kit to my son who has an IPad 1.

If I can find an answer to the problem, if somehow it is my fault, then I shall write another review and upgrade the rating. I gave it 1 star because the IPad did recognise the connection. If, there is a problem with latest upgrades to IPad 2 then, hopefully Apple will sort it out. However, I must give the IPad full marks for an outstanding piece of equipment, which has given me hours of very interesting pleasure.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Camera USB Dock OK

    • Written by from THATCHAM

I wasn't sure about this purchase after reading so many reviews stating that the camera USB interface didn't work on iPad2's. Why pay for something if only 50% of the product works?
Well, all I can say is it must be dependant on the camera your using, as it worked straight out the box for me (Panasonic Lumix GS3 and Canon G11) Perhaps its some of the older cameras that don't work?
My local store (Basingstoke UK) also made it clear if it didn't work with my camera I could return it for a full refund.
If anyone is unsure if their camera will work, take your camera along to the store and try before you buy :-)

    Expensive and limited

    • Written by from cam

This will only import a limited number of file types and will not allow export - beware, the shop assitant mis sold this as a USB reader it is not one as normal people understand it. Very expensive for a couple of bits of plastic. Apple needs to do better.....

Overpriced considering one part of it doesn't work

    • Written by from Swindon

Bought this specifically because I thought I could connect my mini flip video camera to my ipad2 particularly whilst away when I don't have access to a pc. It's useless as the accessory I am trying to connect uses too much power. But what accessory wouldn't? It's only a tiny camcorder. Disappointed.
The other connector works great though with my SD card from my photo camera. £25 a lot to spend though just for that.

    Doesn't Work with Nikon D300

    • Written by from Milton Keynes

Like many other reviewers I'm very frustrated with this device. It will not recognise my Camera and allow connection to my iPad however, my camera connects succesfully to my iMac and Macbook therefore it's not a camera or compact flash card issue.

If I put the card into a card reader instead of a direct camera connection, then connect with the device to my iPad, I get the message that the device 'uses to much power'.

Like many others I bought this device to review my photos on my iPad at the end of a shoot but the device doesn't recognise my camera or card

What a load of rubbish, when Apple gear is normally so superb.

    Doesn't work

    • Written by from Worcester

Should be no stars really! The SD card or the USB link would not work on Ipad2 on my ipad2 or on 2 other Ipad2's in the store when it was returned for a refund. A second unit was also tested in the store and this also didn't work! Apple need to sort this problem out....Pronto!

    SIMPLICITY

    • Written by from Birmingham

After reading negative reviews for this kit i decided to pluck up the courage & buy one. So off i went to my local apple store. Got home opened packet, followed instructions & within seconds my photos were on my ipad. Photos look stunning. Kit works fine with my panasonic lumix TZ10. I also have a older camera fuji finepix F700 which uses xd cards, this also worked fine using a multi card reader. Overall, i am very very happy with this product.

    Wasted my hard earned money

Connected my sanyo xacti camcorder to be told it needs too much power, ok I thought I will use the sd reader, told the data may be corrupted, no it isn't, works fine on my pc.
Be very careful when buying this, take your main camera with you to an apple store and get them to demonstrate it working.

    iPad camera adapter

    • Written by from Wakefield

I love my apple products owning iMac, mac air and iPad 2 not to mention iPhone and numerous iPods. However the camera adapter for the iPad is verging on the illegal. It's not fit for purpose, it would appear from what I can gather the latest update has reduced the current available via the dock from 100 to just 20 milli amps. Which basically means it won't work with the majority of cameras. The only alternative is to use the SD card reader.

    Completely useless

    • Written by from Challock

This item works with some iPads and not with others. How can Apple sell such an unpredictable product with no hint at point of sale that it could be £25 wasted on completely useless piece of kit ?

D700 owners this is for you

    • Written by from Sheffield

Just bought an iPad, and bought this kit add on too. Of course, it's a pain that Apple charge £25 for something that should be included as standard (USB connectivity) but once you get over that this product just works.

I shoot RAW + JPEG on a Nikon D700. The iPad handles them perfectly, and when I get back to my home computer I can import my files directly from the iPad into Lightroom 3 without the need to use iPhoto.

I was concerned about whether this kit would work, but it does, seamlessly, straight out the box and my photos look fantastic!

    Excellent.

    • Written by from northampton

Both the USB and SD adapter work well with my Nikon D3100.
I was concerened after a few reviews said that they were having problems, shame they never stated what camera they were using.
So no problems importing photos direct from camera, or the SDCH card (TDK 8GB), then sending them on from there to e mail or other sites.
One reason for getting the iPad 2 was so I could take it on my travels and upload photos.
    Very pleased.

Now a midi interface and more!

    • Written by from Cardiff

You get two adapters included, a SD card reader that works great with most cameras and a USB adapter, primarily for connecting a digital camera via its usb cable. However the usb adapter now offers midi connectivity for usb midi music keyboards and iOS4.2 music apps that have been suitably enabled. Connect your favourite powered usb keyboard and play music with apps like NLog synth and more! whats more many usb headsets or mics work as do usb pc keyboards! Bear in mind though the ipad doesnt deliver much power over its usb port so you might need a powered device! a very useful accessory.
