    Don't waste your money

    • Written by from Ongar

I have an i7 Mac Mini and a Dell 27" monitor. EVERY time the Mac wakes from sleep, the screen is all snowy, needed me to switch the monitor off and back on. On a couple of occasions the screen will not clear until a full restart, and one a few occasions, I have had the Mac lockup showing the "Please Restart Your Computer' screen.

    Absolute rubbish!

    Poor

    • Written by from FLEET

Adapter version 1.03 bought 16/08/2011. Terrible noise interference on starting up. It is necessary to drop resolution to 1920 x 1080. Then back up to 2560 x 1440. Works fine until next reboot. Mac mini -> Dell U2711. Disgusting price for this item, even if it worked correctly.

    Works, but then not completely

    • Written by from Brabrand

The noise in black when connecting a MacBook Pro to a 30" Cinema Display seems to be a 50/50% occurrence, yet nobody at Apple Support or at Apple Dealers know about this or what to do about it.

It's quite odd that Apple hasn't sent out a replacement program for the default ones of these. Seems like a subcontractor that made an error, yet you feel that you have to convince Apple folks about that the problem exist.

Works perfectly with Mini / Air + Dell WFP3007

    • Written by from Plymouth

I was reluctant to buy this given some of the reviews, but I've been using for a while to connect my late 2010 Mac Mini to an old Dell WFP3007. No fuzziness or noise at all, and it's nice to finally have my old monitor back. ;) Also tested with my MacBook Air and it's just as faultless.

Works, but not through an amp

    • Written by from Basingstoke

I was going to use this adaptor to send the signal through my HDMI equipped AV receiver via my 27" Core i7 iMac. This would not work and sent no signal to the TV at all, despite all my other equipment working fine through the amp, even my PC.

It does work when connected straight to both my 42" Plasma and my 32" LCD though, so it must be some sort of handshake issue or issue with the power of the cable?

Not particularly impressed with it overall, especially at the price Apple charges!

Keep it display port if possible

    • Written by from Reading

I bought one of these Dual-Link DVI adapters to cover all the potential connection options for a new set up, and given the reviews here was very happy to return it. My advice would be to use a mini display port to display port cable - if possible - I realise that slightly older screens may not feature a display port connector. These cables (mini display port to display port) don't seem to be widely available yet and Apple certainly don't make one, but they are out there, so if your screen has the capability this is by far the best solution. I've just connected a 17" MBPro pro a 27" NEC screen (PA271W) using one, the cable cost £7, and carries the digital signal with no conversion or indeed interference.

Trouble, even with 30" APPLE Cinema Display

    • Written by from Golden

I've read a lot of comments and reviews around the web about problems with this cable and 30" monitors. I've seen several suggestions with several people blaming the problem on 3rd party monitors. I've got a very new MacBook Pro, this cable and a 30" Apple Cinema Display. Mostly we get blackouts (i.e., the monitor goes black for 1-2 seconds) several times an hour. We have 3 setups like this in the office, we all have the same problem. We have tried swapping cables, monitors and computers and all exhibit the same problem.

Very disappointing - $3,000 or more in Apple gear and they can't get it to work.

    Noise issues

    • Written by from London

This adaptor has terrible noise issues in the blacks. The fact that Apple doesn't fix this or recalls the product leaves me totally baffled. A complete shamble.

Don'y buy to use in mirror mode!

    • Written by from ALNWICK

Buyers Beware!! Just bought this to use between a new 2010 13" MacBook Pro and a 2005 20" Cinema Display with a view to using it in 'mirror' mode - ie mirroring what's on the laptop to the larger screen, while leaving the laptop idle. Apparently it only works at the same res as the laptop - 1280 x 800 which is absolute pants on the big screen. Only buy this if you intend to use your second screen as extra real estate!

    No Firewire connection

    • Written by from London

Not a well considered product, as it only provides 2 of the required 3 connections between laptop and Cinema Display. There is no provision to connect the Firewire 400 cable from the Cinema Display to the Firewire 800 port on the laptop. Any Firewire devices that you have connected to the Firewire hub on the Cinema Display therefore will not be connected to the laptop.

As this is an expensive Apple product intended to connect two other Apple products, it is not fit for purpose without the addition of a Firewire 400 to 800 adapter at more expense. Apple does not offer such an adapter in its store, so you will have to get a third party product.

Surely Apple knows that the 30" cinema display uses Firewire 400, and that the new MacBook Pro for which this adapter is intended uses Firewire 800, and that they need to be connected. Apple prides itself on everything working right out of the box, but have failed in this case.

Serious interference also with Apple 30" Cinema Display

    • Written by from Göppingen

I experience the same problem as many others. Serious interference/noise on black parts of the display connected via the Dual-Link Adapter.
This is unacceptable. One simply can not work with that kind of interference on the big screen!
The weird thing is, i can even record the interference using SnapzPro.
    Have a look: bit.ly/dav7WR

I have a brand new MacBook Pro with SDD Drive connected to an older 30 Inch Apple Cinema Display (which works as expected connected to other Macs) via the Dual Link Adapter. I have even gotten a replacement Adapter from Apple Care which unfortunately didn't cure the problem.

Works with DELL 3008WFP, but price is silly

    • Written by from Warrington

Plugged it in, selected correct source on DELL 3008WFP, worked first time and no problems yet. Not had any of the problems reported in other reviews.

Price is steep (about £30 would have been reasonable, £69 is rip-off -- you can buy an iPod for less than that!) hence 4 stars.

    Amazing

I have a 17'' Macbook pro and a 30'' Apple Cinema Display, and I plugged the cable into both things and it worked immidietly. No problems what so ever and the resolution is great! Bravo!

    Worst Hardware Ever

    • Written by from sheffield

I've never felt compelled to write a review of hardware before but this is different. After buying my shiny new mac mini (late 2009) I also found I had to buy a dual-link adapter to use it with my 30" apple cinema display so I was stung for another £70!!! This adaptor really is the pits, It just doesn't work, no display when waking and intermittent problems constantly. Surely either sort the firmware (currently 1.02 or something) or issue a product recall. Ive spent over £700 quid on this stuff and expect for better for my hard earned cash. Apple need to accept there is a problem and sort it out, just because you dont admit it doesnt mean its not happening. Dont buy this adapter if you really dont have to. Get a machine that has a normal dual link connector. There are far more cheaper alternatives out there.

    Working with LG W3000H

    • Written by from Leicester

Running fine with Mac mini and LG W3000H. Was quite worried about buying this with all the negative feedback for it, I'm glad its working.
    1.02 firmware on the adaptor.
4 Stars because of the ridiculous price for the thing.

    NEC 3090WQXi works

    • Written by from Perth

Took the plunge to see if it would work with my new monitor and therefore if I needed a new graphics card in order to run two of them (as it connects with a dual link dvi). I'm relieved to report that it works perfectly. Still it's less than ideal that it seems to be a lottery if your monitor will work with this adapter. I have listed my spec below, hope this helps someone.

    Mac Pro (MacPro4,1 / 2009) - Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2 x 2.93 GHz
    ATI Radeon HD 4870 - 512MB
    NEC 3090WQXi Monitor

Works fine with Dell 3008WFP SuperView 30Inch Monitor

    • Written by from London

Like a lot of people I was dreading having to buy this adapter due to the bad reviews but when I hooked up my brand new Mac Mini with OS X 10.5.6 to my brand new Dell screen the adapter has worked flawlessly and continues to do so more than a week afterwards. I have no problems with flickering, noise or interference, it works great which is a big relief. My only gripe is that it is expensive therefore 4 stars.

Does not work properly with Dell 3007WFP-HC

    • Written by from Swindon

Pixel noise is apparent all of the time especially on larger blocks of dark picture content. Intermittent display corruption requires putting the machine to sleep and waking up again to recover. I personally would not have released this product in this state.

Adapter version is 1.0.1 and the machine is a MacBook Pro 17" 2.66.

    Occasional flickering

    • Written by from London

I'm using this product with a just-bought unibody 17" MacBookPro and a 30" Apple CinemaDisplay, and whilst it generally works ok, every 15-20 minutes it flickers (to black for half a second, then back on).

It's annoying rather than catastrophic, but I have no other option for connecting my screen to my laptop as far as I know.

    Disappointing.
