Apple iPod Radio Remote
A complete disappointment
Written by GH from Lancaster
20-Apr-2008
I bought this product specifically for the radio and I can't receive any programme, just crackle. It has been a complete and annoying waste of £35.
It also has an amazing length of wiring, which considering the excellent design of the ipod itself, surely isn't necessary. Nor is another set of earphones, which no doubt puts the price of the product up.
I don't understand why Apple, with all their skill in design and technology, can't include a radio as standard on their ipods.280 of 461 people found this useful

Too expensive, cost me 2 ipods and 2 radio units
Written by MH from London
15-Oct-2008
From bitter experience, I wouldn't even plug this in to my iPod.
Seemed to work fine for the first couple of weeks then for some reason the 60Gb 5G iPod thought it was always plugged in and drained the battery within hours even when it was switched off and unplugged. Then the sleep function packed in altogether. After replacing my iPod for the 3rd time I threw the radio unit away. A shame because when it worked it was great and the remote came in handy too.73 of 109 people found this useful

Dont get me wrong, the remote feature is good, but the only reason i bought it was of the radio option. Im a postman and the reception is very very very poor! People say its the area but i can get radio 2 as clear as a bell on my sony erricson mobile and static on the ipod in the same spot! Ive now bought a dab radio and my ipod is hardly used!

How much?
Written by PC from Bickley
12-Oct-2007
Well i think people pay enough for ipods as it is. They fall short of features anyway, so you expect the radio remotes to be good for £35, but they aren't! Mp3 Players such as zens come with radio in them and they're cheaper? makes sense to buy that!

Radio remote
Written by LB from Sawston
13-Mar-2006
I love my iPod but i also love the radio....so in theory a match made in heaven?....Sadly not to be!....Whereever i go all i get is static.....one hit onto classic FM but that was it it.....next day?.....static and hissing!...i am not bothered about the colour [my iPod is black] and yes its a dinky remote but at £35 i do not think so!...plus the cord is too long.....so relunctantly I am taking mine back.....so is it the design [some people get a good reception] or is minea 'duff one'?.......oh...it kills the battery juice....which is a double annoyance for getting static!....So a refund or a replacement?? I still want a radio!!!..that WORKS! At the mo its one star and i am being generous!

Pricy Junk
Written by DO from Ballincollig

I love Apple and its products, except this! Why? Simply because it does not work!
Over the years I've got used to Apple products being the best you can buy but this is just a piece of expensive junk and it actually hurts to have to say that about an Apple product. What were they thinking when the released it?16 of 24 people found this useful

Very Disappointed
Written by DJ from YORK
11-Apr-2006
Too much cable, poor reception and only tunes to odd numbered frequencies - why? Cannot get Capital (95.8) when in London. I love my Nano but find the radio remote a VERY poor accessory. Would love to get some response here from Apple as several previous reviewers have made similar comments.

Terrible!!
Written by MM from BLACKROCK
28-Feb-2009
I love Apple products but this has been a HUGE disappointment and a total waste of money. The reception is terrible even out in the open. If you are indoors, forget it. I have ended up buying a separate mini digital radio to make up for this products deficiencies. Do not buy this product.

iPod Radio?
Written by JC from Stevenage
05-Apr-2007
Save your money! I bought 2 - one as a gift and one for myself and could not get any signal whatsoever with either of them. Switched iPods, earphones, went outside, went further down the garden. Not a bean of a radio station to show for it. So I paid £70 for two remotes!!

Apple iPod Radio Remote
Poor build quality
Written by JH from London
15-Nov-2006
Since I got my 5G iPod, I couldn't use my old remote for my 4G iPod anymore so I had to buy this. When it works it is excellent, but when it doesn't (most of the time) it is extremely frustrating. The sound will crackle if the headphones are not plugged into it at a precise angle, and the volume will randomly change whenever it wants to (even when both the hold switch on this and on the iPod are on), ranging from very quiet to blow your ears off loud. The build is also awful, if you press down slightly harder on the clip it will come apart. I wish I could give it a lower rating than one star because it doesn't even deserve one. Come on Apple, do something about it!
Oh and the worse part is that Apple have done nothing to help me exchange it - have tried calling, emailing and even been down to the Apple Store on Regent Street - no luck because it was given to me as a present and I don't have the receipt.9 of 14 people found this useful

Apple iPod Radio Remote
Poor design and build
Written by MT from Farnborough
10-Nov-2006
Like the previous style of remote for older iPods, this remote shows yet more poor build quality, now added in with poor design.
I found the average lifetime of the previous remote to be somewhere in the region of 8 months. The three I had all suffering from the join in the connector breaking and the wires seeming to break (iPod was carried in the hip pocket). This new one has lasted 3 months before exhibiting the same problem (carried in jeans pocket). Now while walking the sound will break, stop and then return at a low volume. It is now essentially useless. It limits the use of the iPod, and I'll have to look at other brands if I replace the, otherwise excellent, g5 iPod.
Designing the remote buttons as a big circle certainly looks pretty, but its not practical. You cannot quickly figure up which is vol up/down or next/prev without working out the orientation of the remote. Too often hitting the center play button will also lead to hitting another outer button. The clip is much better than the previous incarnation, and it does have a radio, but since its prime function is seriously poorly laid out, it's not much of a consolation.37 of 70 people found this useful

On the phone now to Apple to get this returned. brokeafter 4 weeks. Now controls dont work and iPod doesnt recognise radio. When you do get it working the radio reception is 1970's quality and there is no real functionality on the radio. Expensive pair of poor headphones. Dont buy.
