Such a con
Written by JS from Fleet

Although I praise Apple for such great things like the ipod, I have to say I was CONNED. I bought the ipod video in a hope to get my holiday videos and other videos as advertised on the homepage. However to achieve this you had to pay a further £20 to do it!!!
Quicktime doesnt even work well! Its painfully slow and does not even convert some of the files i want to ipod format!!

QuickTime 7 Pro for Windows
Avoid

I bought this software to convert my videos that i had not downloaded from iTunes onto my iPod. I even phoned apple and they said this is what you need to convert the videos. IT ISNT. To convert a 4 minute music video takes literally hours and then often gets to about 75% complete before the whole thing fails. On the odd chance that it might finnish it goes onto the iPod fine but then plays with no sound. I have tried to put them into all sorts of formats that Quick Time offers with the same results apart from the it creates the rubbish slightly qicker. This is the first apple product that has let me down so I still think they are a fantastic company and I will contine to buy from Apple, however this is product unacceptable.

Bought this programme to convert digital camera video into a format viewable on video ipod.It is very slow and at converting and I couldn't get the 'Import to ipod' feature to work at all. freeware called 'videora' works much quicker and more simply. Quick time pro was a waste of £20 for me.

Totally agree with all of the above. If you pay £220 for an ipod u expect it to atleast come with the correct software, you SHOULD NOT have to buy a new package. It is not recommended to any one, trouble is, if you have the video ipod you have to buy it or videos simply do not work.

QuickTime 7 Pro for Windows
Complete Scam

Do not by this product to convert videos to ipods!!! I bought Quicktime Pro to convert videos for my ipod and thought this was my only choice so decided to get it despite other bad reviews. It is extremely slow, taking hours for a 30 minute show and it only converts video and not audio on MPEG files, so is effectively useless. They are just taking another £20 of people who have bought a video ipod for a slow, and mostly useless product and do not offer any refund. If you are getting this to convert videos to ipod there are far better and free products out there...try videora ipod converter.Completely free and v fast.Would give Quicktime Pro no stars if i could.

quicktime PRO is a waste of time for iPOD movies Sort it out Apple!!
Written by PS from rustington

Very annoying. the export to ipod movie feature in quicktime Pro is only good for 1 chapter, or a small video clip. If you want to convert a full movie its useless. I left it running all night and in the morning it was still only 16% done. as soon as you put a large file in it Slows right up to a snail walk.
waste of money. Apple sort it out!! come on! give your customers something they can use! you know we want to convert Full movies. not just small clips.
DETAILS ON WHAT I WAS DOING: Rip 1 DVD to Mpeg1 using Number1 dvd ripper. end result a 1 gig Mpeg perfect quality. put into qt Pro, export as ipod movie.
end result = 24 hours and it only did 26% of the movie.
I tried with just 1 short clip 30 seconds and the quality was MINT on the ipod! i just wish i could do a full movie. £19.99 wasted! I tried splitting the movie into 3 but the files were still too big and too slow. I tried splitting into 10 parts of 100MB but stll No good. so SLOW 3 hours to do 12%51 of 53 people found this useful

QuickTime 7 Pro for Windows
Very Dissapointing
Written by CL from Bristol

Look very closely before buying. I read the negative reviews thinking, maybe the other reviewers just don't know how to use it properly, or maybe it'll run faster on my computer (3GHz Processor, 1GB RAM, 256MB Graphics Card, 115GB Hard Drive), but they're right.
It doesnt support most of the common formats like DVD, Tivo, DivX, WMV, AVI, RealMedia. I admit that I read between the lines thinking/hoping I could import DVDs, but the list of supported formats should be much easier to find on this page, and lets face it, it wouldn't be beyond their ability to support these formats. I expected better from apple.
It's also unbelieveably slow, and sometimes fails to include sound when exporting movies to ipod format. If you're looking for a way to convert videos or dvds to ipod format reliably and at a reasonable speed do not get quicktime. I've been more successful with the free trial of another program (PQ DVD to iPod Video/Movies Converter(supports more formats and does it more quickly)) than with the full version of quicktime. I shouldn't have given quicktime pro the benefit of the doubt. (also they don't give a refund if you don't like it).67 of 69 people found this useful

Good but just not good enough

I got this expecting to be able to put 20-30 minutes of TV shows on my ipod fairly quickly, what I got was rubbish.
I took over 3 hours to get 20% complete!! This is just useless. It does short 15 second clips in 10 minutes but for TV shows or films it's not worth it.
For a TV show that you want to put onto your iPod you won't be able to as your PC will crash.
Look round on the internet, there are some other software there that is as good, www.cucusoft.com is the same price and alot quicker. It took 20 minutes for a 30 minute TV episode.
Would not recommend it to anyone, unless it's only short clips you want to view on your iPod78 of 83 people found this useful

This is another case of Apple exploiting people who have paid a considerable amount for the new video i-pod. It took hours to transfer a few short clips I had taken with my digital camera and the rest of the software is useless if this is the only reason you're buying the product

I agree entirely with the previous review. The time taken to convert files for use is ridiculous(2 min clip takes around 30 mins)and the software crashes on longer clips.
Come on Apple, you charge a premium for your products/software-this is simply not up to the job.
No stars ,but system forces one star in order to submit review.

Tried Quicktime 7 Pro for windows today, it worked fine on 3 half hour mpeg files, which I converted to m4v files then downloaded to my new video iPod. You will need a fast PC with lots of disk space but all video production work requires a high spec PC. Intend to try out the rest of the features later.

I have the exact same problems as mentioned before. This is something Apple needs to sort out or Quicktime will be a flop. I have a medium spec PC, and am running XP Prof.

Conversion to iPod H.264 video - Slow, but seems to work
Written by DJ from Gloucester
31-Oct-2005
Well, I read the first review here and decided I'd give it a go anyway even though the comments there indicated I'd have a few problems.
I upgraded to QT7 for the simple reason that I wanted to convert my video files to the new H.264 format that QT7 is supposed to support so I can get them working on my new video enabled iPod.
Initially I thought it didn't work.
QT7 Pro allows loading of MOV amd MPG files. No specific mention of H.264, but I made the bold assumption that the MOV files it saves would be H.264 so I went ahead and converted to MOV. These files failed to upload to my iPod because it could not play them (so I have to assume that means they weren't saved as H.264).
Then while writing a more negative review than this has turned out to be, I discovered the Export option. I'd have thought it would be under Save As... and set the format to H.264, but no, the one feature I want is hidden away in the Export option of the File Menu.
Ah well, now that I know that, it's OK. And hopefully you'll also know because you've read this review.
Conversion was very slow though. First MPG to M4V format (That's the iPod file type) has now worked so that's 100% success. (small sample size though, so confidence remains to be increased).
FYI - Platform was PC with XP Home and Service Pack 2 installed plus all relevant updates (I have auto update enabled).141 of 152 people found this useful

Avoid at all cost
Written by ML from Howden

This piece of software is awful. If you actually manage to export a file without it crashing and taking hours (honest) it will either not work on my ipod or there's no sound. It also doesn't convert .wmv files and is best avoided. My laptop is powerful and takes an age to convert any file using QT 7 Pro. I've managed to put two videos onto my ipod from the 11 I've tried. I feel cheated.
