QuickTime 7 Pro for Mac OS X
Does what it says on the tin
Written by ML from LONDON

After reading most reviews on this product which were kinda low I was wondering what's the problem with this.
But I bought Pro for exporting videos into smaller formats like playback on my phone, resizing for video streaming in online sites and saving trailers.

QuickTime 7 Pro for Mac OS X
Its all pro and no cons
Written by AG from Sutton Coldfield

After Reading all of the reviews I was a little worried about spending £20 on software. Especially as I previously had free software on the PC.
QuickTime had been highly recommended by a few friends, so I spent the £20 and went for it. I'm so glad I did !! The output quality was perfect from a avi to iPhone and a 20 min video converts in about 8 mins. Then after clicking on the file, imported it directly Into iTunes. I couldn't have asked for a easier app. Well done apple.
Ps. Although other reviews are saying it doesn't play certain files, do they know about the free addons ? Divx etc108 of 115 people found this useful

Get the best out of QuickTime 7

With QuickTime Pro, it gives you greater access when you go through the quicktime movies website. Once I purchased the key, I went straight to the quicktime movies website where you can preview films and games. And once you've watch the movie or game preview, you can save it as a quicktime movie and you can watch again with having to go online.Once you've got the key just click on system preferences in the dock then click on quicktime icon make sure the register tab is selected.Type your name and key in, and your away!

Great for video editing...
Written by MA from Lincoln

I see an awful lot of people getting hot under the collar about this upgrade. The fact is that this is a piece of software designed to work with Apples other Pro App's (ie, Final Cut Studio, etc) and for that it's an indispensable tool. Export files, trim files which have been a left a little long on the time line, compress for upload, separate audio from the video, etc, etc. This offers some great tools which I use almost daily and get driven mad if I don't have them to hand when on another Mac...

I needed a program for converting various video files to play on devices like the iPod and Playstation 3. Quicktime Pro works perfectly for this.
All my encoding needs in one package. Perfect.89 of 102 people found this useful

I, too, am surprised at the negative comments on QuickTime Pro. I use it pretty much every day for resizing video, converting audio. It works for me!

I oh so nearly didn't spend my £20 on quicktime 7 pro, but I'm glad I decided not to listen to all the negativity! I bought it yesterday and have been having so much fun converting my vacation videos and transferring to my IPOD Touch, that I am all behind in my real work....it's magic! Easy to use? Absolutely!(I'm no computer genius by any means)

Good, but...

This product is good, and as another reviewer says, it "does what it says on the tin". I find the easy Audio Recording feature particularly useful when I'm just playing with ideas.
But come on, everyone knows this functionality should be built into Mac OS X as standard...

Be aware

I got this product to convert my digital camera videoclips from MPEG1 to MPEG4 to be enable to use the clips in iMovie. The problem is, that the sound is gone once I convert. If you need to convert smal videoclips - then get the MPEG Streamclip.
Otherwise its a fair product.119 of 126 people found this useful

Good product, shame about encoding speed
Written by BH from Frome
08-Jan-2006
I have a 1.33 GHz Powerbook and can confirm that encoding speed for ipod video is very slow with Quicktime Pro. However, it does produce good results, noticeably better than, for instance Videora iPod Converter (for windows), and any kind of video encoding will always involve long waits. I would be interested to compare times with a G5 system.
If ripping DVDs for ipod is your thang, then I strongly recommend the freeware utility Handbrake, which can do this in a single step, is relatively straightforward to use, and is I think faster than QT due to using a different encoding engine. I am actually using it right now and it is averaging 14 fps which is an order of magnitude faster than quicktime!
The short and blunt: Quicktime Pro does what it says on the tin with aplomb, I could not do without it, but be prepared to leave your computer for a long time for large encodes.
To those who post negative reviews just through not being able to use it, I suggest a little perseverance might pay off and recommend other users to disregard their input.
Good but not perfect: 4 stars.116 of 152 people found this useful

Did what I wanted
Written by DM from NUNEATON

Could not import MPEG1 Muxed video from iphoto into imovies. Downloaded QT pro 7 - exported to iphotos as Quicktime movie - imovie read the files and now part of a movie project/DVD. I read somewhere that mpeg1 muxed format combines audio with video - so after export left with only video (no audio), but no worries as audio on this occasion not required. 20 quid well spent to get the footage I wanted into imovie project. Registration process easy following link from online invoice to website.

Good encoder
Written by ML from Birmingham
19-Jul-2008
Offering a variety of different options, QuickTime Pro does exactly what I wanted it to do - it converts videos to different formats (including iPhone and iPod friendly formats) easily, however for large files, don't expect the process to be fast, it can take some time to convert.
Also remember the ability to create the files you want is entirely dependant on Quicktime being able to open the files in the first place - and whilst getting the pro upgrade does expand the range of files you can play to a certain extent (including FLV for example), its only as good as the codecs installed on your system.91 of 119 people found this useful

Quicktime Pro is easy to install, just go into the quicktime menu (inside the application) and click 'Register'. Simple!
The conversions work just as you would expect, and the full screen viewing is pretty cool as well.52 of 76 people found this useful

QuickTime 7 Pro for Mac OS X
inadequate support
Written by JP from Stonehouse
20-Jun-2008
Many years ago I bought QuickTime Pro. It has been moderately useful and updated to the current version. Twice now all my bought downloads have disappeared from my computer and from my Apple page, including QuickTime Pro in each case. Over the last two month with the help of AppleCare I have restored everything else (I think) from the last disaster. But although I enter my code into the QuickTime Registration panel, nothing happens except that my code disappears. There is nothing wrong with my code which is written down on my MacBook and on paper. The problem is somewhere else and presumably with either Apple or the QuickTime service.

Buyer beware..

Don't by Quicktime Pro unless you really need it in the near future, because every time Apple issue a new free upgrade to Quicktime (eg from Quicktime 6 to 7) your Pro purchase will be invalidated, and you'll have to buy it again. Even if you've only had it a short time.

QuickTime 7 Pro for Mac OS X
NOT the be all and end all for file conversions
Written by JG from Glasgow
25-Nov-2005
I wish I knew the limitations of QuickTime Pro before I paid for it. I bought it to enable conversion of my many MPEG movie files to a format that can be played back on my iPod.
The problem being that QuickTime Pro can playback MPEG files that it can’t export properly. A lot of MPEG files are 'Multi-Plexed' (the sound and video tracks are weaved together). When QuickTime Pro exports these Multi-Plexed files it tells you that there is "No audio track in source movie" and the resulting file plays back with no sound, even though it plays the original file with sound.
Another big problem is that QuickTime Pro is very choosy as to what files you can cut and paste with. To my annoyance, you have to perform time-consuming conversions before being able to cut and paste.
For me QuickTime Pro is utterly useless, I just hope Apple will resolve these issues in a future update.884 of 1149 people found this useful

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!
Written by CN from Ashtead

Apple have really screwed up QuickTime with the latest version 7.3.1! Since installing it I upgraded to Pro. However, it won't work with .mpg files... you cant make a selection because the selection 'handles' are not there! So, you can't copy, cut or paste... which kind of defeats the object doesn't it? The really stupid thing is... if you've previously saved an mpeg using the previous version of QuickTime... and with the selected frames in 'Play selection only' mode... your movie will happily play the selected frames... except you cant see the selection or the selection handles, or gain access to them!
SO BEWARE... ONCE YOU INSTALL THIS VERSION, YOU CAN'T GO BACK TO THE PREVIOUS VERSION... SO YOU'RE STUCK WITH SOMETHING THAT NO LONGER WORKS PROPERLY! Man... I love Apple too, but who is overseeing this kind of rubbish that you'd only expect from Gates?384 of 542 people found this useful
