imac mid 2010 and Thunderbolt port
Ciao to all.
I bought it and it works great with my MacBookPro17; but IF I plug into mi iMac27" Mid 2010, it is not recognized.
Someone can confirm me it's not possible to use it on my iMac mid 2010?
Regards..

Best AnswerThat's because your 2010 iMac has a Displayport port, not a Thunderbolt port. They are physically similar, but your Displayport will only connect to video devices with Displayport connections.

Can i use this cable with migration assistant? I want to move from a mid2007 iMac to the new iMacs released today (Nov. 2012).

AnswerThe mid 2007 iMacs should have a FW 800 jack suitable for an FW 800 cable that will connect to this adapter. If you have the cable, Migration Assistnt should work.

With the use of the Thunderbolt to FireWire Adapter, can I attach a FireWire drive, or even a FireWire chain of drives, to a Thundebolt drive?
I have an existing chain of two FireWire hard drives, currently attached directly to the FireWire port of an iMac. And I want to add a Thunderbolt drive soon, too, using the Thunderbolt port. But the newest iMacs don't have any FireWire port. So I want to be able to use both types of drive with the newest, and presumably future, Macs.

Best AnswerYes using the adaptor on one thunderbolt port, you can link FireWire drive (I assume ypur drove is FW800. I have 4 fw drives linked to an adaptor on my retina MacBook Pro. You should be able to do this on the newly released iMac too. Note that USB3 is faster than FireWire 800. I am starting to change my drives and USB 3 is great but the only downside is that you can't link the drives up like FireWire 800.

Will this work with my (very old gen3) ipod?
I have had my ipod since 2003 and it has been working fine for me ever since. I understand that to transfer my songs from my ipod to a mac, I will need to download a specific type of software for that to work. I do not want to lose the music that is currently on there (approx. 3000), but do want to transfer to my new macbook pro. Will the Thunderbolt read my ipod?

Best AnswerThe 3rd Generation iPod was the first model to feature a dock connector, and had the play/pause, menu, forward, and back buttons in a line above the touch wheel.
You can Identify your iPod Model at Apple Support KB article HT1353
If this is the case, any USB or Firewire 400 to Dock Connector cable should be OK to use, just use a USB one, and plug it directly into your MacBook.
If you have a first or 2nd generation iPod (With a physical wheel, or a touch wheel with buttons arranged around the wheel (but not on the wheel) and with a FireWire port on the top of the unit (no dock connector) you will additionally need a Firewire 400 to Firewire 800 cable. You can plug the FW400 end into the iPod, and the FireWire 800 end will fit into this accessory. You can then use a specialist piece of software to extract the music from your iPod.- Answered by Silas P from Elwood

Is this enough to power a Digital Camera Back like PhaseOne or Hasselbald?
Majority of medium format camera digital backs equip with Firewire connectivity instead of USB 3.0, is this adapter capable to be used to connect and power a digital bak of that kind, so as the image transfer? For brand like Phase One, Leaf or Hasselbald?

AnswerLike the other anwser said: the adapter can provide 7W of power. The Fire standard (IEEE 1394) says that the max output is 30 V @ 1.5 amps so 45W. Seeing the size of your device and its complexity, there is a good chance it will require more than 7W of power and the provided adapter is 12V @ 1 amp so 12W (although an adapter is rarely used at full capacity). Unless they completely oversized their power adapter, you may need to plug it in.
This adapter looks much more built to access FireWire external harddrives that are either self powered of portable and thus less power hungry.

Will this let me connect my firewire video camera to final cut pro?

AnswerThe adapter steps you down from Thunderbolt to FW800, providing you have the proper FireWire cable to go from there to your camera you should notice your camera interact with FCPX or FCP7 just as it did via straight FireWire.
FW800 9pin to FW400 4pin probably the cable you'll need as FireWire 400 4pin is the most common camera FW interface, unless you have a higher end camera system that connects via FW400 6pin.
hope this helps!- Answered by John Jay W from Ardmore

Will this let a FW800 HD work under Windows 7 / BootCamp on a MBP Retina?
Has anyone tried to connect one (or more) external hard-drives with FW800 ports through this adapter to a MacBook Pro (Retina) running Windows 7 under BootCamp?
I have quite a load of specific Windows software that does not exist under Mac OS X, and more than a wheelbarrow of files stored on LaCie 1 or 2 TB Quadra hard-drives with FW800 ports.
I'm considering to update my current MBP15 to a new MBP15(Retina) and I need to be sure that it does what I need before I order it: money-back-guarantee isn't an option as my employer sources most of our hardware through a lease contractor.- Asked by Daniele T from Ferrara
