The application requires a minimum of 2GB Ram and 8GB is recommended. Since Air has only 2GB or 4GB you would be on the low end and could experience slow operation for some actions. I personally use it on a MacBook Pro with 8GB Ram and a Mac Pro with dual processors and 32GB Ram, and there is a noticeable difference in speed between them particularly for some Photoshop actions when editing large files like RAW images that need a lot of memory.

I think Adobe has downloads but I don't suggest it for this since the files are about 10GB. If you go to an Apples store they could install for you at the Genius Bar using a USB Superdrive, that would be a lot faster.

It comes with a license for one user who may install and activate it on up to two of their personal computers (e.g. a desktop and a laptop)

They are functionally identical. The only difference is the price and the fact that you need to be a student in order to qualify for the discounted price. You will need to use your edu email address or provide a report card, ID or other document to prove you are a current student.

The files themselves should be cross-platform, e.g. You create a PSD on the the mac, you can open the PSD on the windows computer. You will need to make sure that you have equivalent fonts installed on both machines.

Actually yes you can as long as you're the only user on both platforms (ie you can't share the license with a friend). Also, you can't use the different licenses at the same time. This only goes with single user licensing - for multi-users it's different again.

For more information on the license, do a search for licensing at Adobe's website - I had a link to the end user license but the stupid system says I can't post a URL, sorry!

You can download the 30-day trial from the Adobe website to start using it immediately. Then enter your serial number from the box to activate it one it arrives.

Go to the "Apple Store for Education" and scroll down to the Term and Conditions, this elaborates. Then scroll down to the school finder and search your son's school.

If you type "Education" in the website search box (Top Right) it will return the link to the page.
