Is this compatible with the nano 5th generation, or the ps vita for that matter?

Yes to the Vita, since it has bluetooth, and no the Nano 5th generation because of no bluetooth. The 7th generation iPod Nano does have bluetooth and it will work with that.

It looks like it is only compatible with the Nano 7th generation, based on Apple's compatibility chart. I do not know about the ps vita.
