  • It could actually use both. The only difference is that 3.0 USB ports are 2x faster than 2.0

  • According to the specs from Apple, it will only support USB 2.0 speed. However you can use it with USB 3.0 port which is backward compatible with 2.0.

  • Sadly, for some really odd unknown reason, Apple has made Lightning a USB 2.0 cable for now.

    USB 3.0 cables cannot connect to USB 2.0 ports, but USB 2.0 cables can connect to USB 3.0 ports. Thus if you have a newer or older computer, you won't need to worry about it not connecting to any of your computers. Sadly, you will see no speed improvements on computers with USB 3.0.
