    great little device but the output is very low quality. nowhere on the advert or on the box for that matter, does it specify the quality or number of lines output.
    i have bought it, was very impressed with its simplicity & how well it works, but the quality is really disappointing.

  • Does the Elgato EyeTV Hydrid allow you to transfer VHS movies or is the Elgato Video Capture better suited?

    Yes, the Hybrid can be use to capture from VHS tapes as well. There a some differences between the way the Hybrid does it, and the Video Capture.

    • The Hybrid captures in MPEG-2 format, which is great if you want to go directly to DVD (using Toast for example), but it's not easy to edit and requires recompression to use in iTunes or iMovie.

    • The Video Capture captures directly to MPEG-4/H.264 format, so the files are immediately ready to go into iTunes or iMovie, and can be synced to iPods, iPhones and Apple TVs with no further conversion.

    • The software for the Video Capture makes the process somewhat simpler than using the Hybrid within EyeTV.
