Product Information

  • The 85 Watt MagSafe Power Adapter features a magnetic DC connector that ensures your power cable will disconnect if it experiences undue strain and helps prevent fraying or weakening of the cables over time. In addition, the magnetic DC helps guide the plug into the system for a quick and secure connection.

When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light up; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC lead is provided with the adapter for maximum lead length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.

Designed to be the perfect travelling companion, the adapter has a clever design that allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.

This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.

Compatible with 15- or 17-inch MacBook Pro.

I love my macs no doubt about it - but the magsafe adapters make me hate apple. The magsafe is such an expensive devise and at the same time the cord is so prone to braking off where it is connected to the charger. And then you cant just buy a new cord...you HAVE to buy a whole new charger...this is both very bad for the consumer and also for the environment. I really hope apple will soon realise that this way of milking costumers is not viable in the 21th century.

So I beg you Apple: please fix the real problem and make a magsafe with a detachable cord.

This newer connector is marginally smaller and does not fit snugly into the socket on the computer. I bought two of these at the Apple Store, Regent Street which didn't work, and I was eventually advised to buy the older part number MA938B for my January 2008 MBP. Check before you buy!

I'm having to replace it yet again as the latest one has frayed but also come apart and the insides are exposed which makes it a fire hazard. I'm about to buy my 6th one. Spend £2,000 on a laptop and end up spending £45-75 on replacing the power supply every 6 months.

This is obvious to anyone who's had anything to do with travelling regularly with an adapter so why didn't the 'guru' designers at Apple think of it? These adapters are a fire risk.

This will be my third in 2.5 years. I find it utterly unbelievable that despite consistently shocking reviews, Apple are still happy to sell this. It is quite evidently dangerous given that the rubber literally melts, exposing wire and creating a burning smell. Apple give this grand illusion of class and excellent customer service, but I honestly think it's all an absolute joke. I am gradually going more and more off of Apple (also on my 3rd iPhone 5 since it came out but that's for another review) and having to fork out £65 for something I know won't see me out of 2015 is an absolute disgrace. In a very warped way I would quite like this dismal charger to create some kind of fire (not one that hurts anyone or anything, just one that stops Apple from being able to continue ignoring the problem any longer) so that we can all say goodbye to this pile of (excuse my French) excrement and get a quality product that isn't going to continually break our bank and threaten our health.
