doesn't work properly with Macbook Pro (late 2008) and Dell 30" monitors

    Written by SN from LONDON

    17-Feb-2009

beware, doesn't work with a Macbook Pro (late 2008) and any Dell 30" (3007wfp /3007wfp-hc), every so often the infamous 'fuzz of death' appears and your screen will be unreadable, leaving only a re-boot or unpluging/repluging the adpater to bring the screen back, but only for awhile.

check out the forums for details, especially the thread intitled - 'periodic Dual-link display problem with new adapter'.

very poor show from Apple to release a faulty product.

Serious issue with non Apple displays

    Written by YA from Swindon

    20-Mar-2009

Beware of buying this accessory, if you have a non-Apple 30" display then it will almost certainly cause problems. It is regrettable that Apple should put its loyal customers in this position. A 30" monitor is a significant investment, and it may not be viable for people to replace their perfectly good displays with the Apple display so that they can receive reliable performance. My hope is that this is merely a software issue that can hopefully be corrected via a software update. More

Serious noise / interference problems - as widely reported

    Written by BM from LONDON

    14-Apr-2009

I purchased one of these (expensive) adaptors for use with a new MacBook. Unfortunately there is serious interference on black parts of the screen. Many other users have encountered this, so I don't believe my experience is uncommon. More

Running fine with Mac mini and LG W3000H. Was quite worried about buying this with all the negative feedback for it, I'm glad its working.
    1.02 firmware on the adaptor.
4 Stars because of the ridiculous price for the thing.

    NEC 3090WQXi works

    Written by SC from Perth

    28-Sep-2009

Took the plunge to see if it would work with my new monitor and therefore if I needed a new graphics card in order to run two of them (as it connects with a dual link dvi). I'm relieved to report that it works perfectly. Still it's less than ideal that it seems to be a lottery if your monitor will work with this adapter. I have listed my spec below, hope this helps someone.

    Mac Pro (MacPro4,1 / 2009) - Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2 x 2.93 GHz
    ATI Radeon HD 4870 - 512MB

Works fine with Dell 3008WFP SuperView 30Inch Monitor

    Written by TR from London

Like a lot of people I was dreading having to buy this adapter due to the bad reviews but when I hooked up my brand new Mac Mini with OS X 10.5.6 to my brand new Dell screen the adapter has worked flawlessly and continues to do so more than a week afterwards. I have no problems with flickering, noise or interference, it works great which is a big relief. My only gripe is that it is expensive therefore 4 stars. More

Totally possible. I am running my new 13" macbook pro into my Samsung 42" HDTV using the mini display port adapter, and a DVI to HDMI cable I bought an apple keyboard w/number pad, hooked up my Logitech MX Revolution wireless mouse.....whallah....42" of Mac. Works absolutely fantastic.

For those of you who want to do this with a macbook......start with the TV off, I open the Macbook press the power button, then immediately close it all the way. Next turn on the TV. and you should be set. I use my laptop as a "desktop" literally everyday. When I do need to go somewhere however, I pull a few wires and walk out the door. The nice thing is, that i am not wearing out the keyboard and the laptop screen when i am hooked up to the flatscreen tv. the life of my macbook LCD screen will be extended ten fold.

    Hope this helped.

I do not own a mac mini but I have seen this done many times in retail stores that want to show off the versatility of such a small desktop. The mac mini has two video outputs: a mini-display port and a mini-DVI port. The mini-display port is the same one you find on the current generation macbook, macbook pros (as well as the Mac Pro) and the Mini-DVI is the same as the on the old black/white macbook. I do not know why apple decided to go with two different adapter types but it works just the same as you will need two separate adapters to use two displays anyway. From there, you just buy two "dongles" (display adapters) which hook up to your respective screen input jacks (VGA or DVI) and you're set! More
