    A bit annoying...

yes, the curves on the iphone make it slick and unique, but they are not practical AT ALL. £15 to make a set of headphones fit an iphone? haven't you already spent enough? its very handy and farely small, but it should not be neccesary. unfortunately it is, and this product fits the job nicely. a good, expensive, buy. The ignorance of SOme people...

    Written by CD from Hove

... is staggering. The TTY adapter is intended to enable the use of aids for the hearing impaired. It is not, as SOme might assume, a simple 3.5 mm male/female adapter to allow the use of cables with bulky plugs. However, it might be helpful if Apple were to make this a little clearer in the item's description.

It would also be helpful if Apple were to actually make a 3.5 mm male/female adapter like the one that I thought I was buying! Full marks, however, for producing this useful piece of equipment, even if it is of no use to me.

£15? To fix a physical design flaw? Apple are having a laugh.

TTY is an abbreviation for TeleTypewriter. It's a device used by the deaf to "text" messages across an analog telephone line. These days, text messaging has just about obsoleted the device however it remains well-suited to the task.

Because the TTY was originally designed for an analog phone system it worked very much like an analog modem; converting "text" into "sounds" that were then re-interpreted back into text at the receiver's end. Both parties of the conversation would have to have a TTY machine.

This adapter allows a person to connect a TTY machine to the "analog" audio input and output of the phone.
