When the connection is secure, an LED located at the head of the DC connector will light; an amber light lets you know that your portable is charging, while a green light tells you that you have a full charge. An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel.
Designed to be the perfect traveling companion, the adapter has a clever design which allows the DC cable to be wound neatly around itself for easy cable storage.
This power adapter recharges the lithium polymer battery while the system is off, on, or in sleep mode. It also powers the system if you choose to operate without a battery.
Compatible with MacBook and 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Purchase a spare, demand a replacement

My macbook cable broke recently and I took it back to the store where it was replaced free of charge, rightly so considering it's had only normal usage.
There is also a slightly longer shield around the top of the cable than on the old one, so it seems apple have made changes to it. …More347 of 378 people found this useful

Health and Safety Issue!!!!
Written by AH

Looks like I'm not the only customer whose Mag(un)Safe power adapter blew after just over a year (just after Apple care cover runs out!). Fizzing, flash, bang and melted metal pins is not what I expect from any product let alone an expensive Apple product. This has serious dented my enthusiasm for the brand. I expected good design, but not dangerous design. Sort this out Apple before you get a court order from the UK Health and Safty Executive... This issue potentially effects EVERY one of your MacBook Customers. …More

Not built to last

Its a good idea but as others appear to have found they break easily and in such a way as to make it near impossible to fix.
This is something that Apple should really improve as having to keep spending 60 pounds for replacements is ridiculous! …More272 of 292 people found this useful

Take care
Written by DS from North Fort Myers

I've been using the MagSafe Adapter on my MacBook for 2 1/2 years now with no problems at all. No sign of fray, overheating at all. I was reading all of the bad reviews and feel I may have lucked out on a "good batch". I treat mine carefully (Never wrap the cord using the "holder" provided as it puts strain on the cable possibly damaging it internally) I just loosely wrap it in a loop and place it in a cheap camera bag when on the go. …More

Still working, BUT ...

4 years and still charging merrily along. BUT - the blooming (for want of an acceptable word!) thing intermittently trips the house electrics!
I came back from holiday a few nights ago, plugged in and "clunk" followed by silence. Luckily the lights are on a separate circuit. The Central Heating boiler protested too!
I'm going to have to buy a new one and try my luck. APPLE, get a grip of this, it's gone on long enough. …More8 of 11 people found this useful

Not Good Enough
Written by RM from Oxford

Just bought a new white MacBook - in theory, everything is fine, except the minor problem of the power adapter not working!!! It worked for about 2 hours then just died. It only sporadically even registers on the MacBook - most of the time it doesn't light up or do anything. My advice is - buy AppleCare! It's already been worth it for me. I'm currently waiting for my replacement in the post. I really hope the new one performs a bit better. …More

Is the 60W MagSafe Power Adapter dual voltage?
- Asked by KP from NEW YORK

Best Answer
You will need a different attachment (but *not* a voltage converter) similar to the "duck prong" (2-prong plug) in the item's picture.
The easiest way to do this is to buy the "Apple World Travel Adapter Kit". This contains all the adapters you should ever need.
Just take off the two prong plug and snap on the adapter. …More- Answered by RH from Star City

This charger is for the 13" MacBook/MacBook Pro, *not* the 15" or 17" MacBook Pros which use an 85W adapter. While you can use the 85W adapter on a 13" MacBook/Pro, you cannot use the 60W adapter on the 15" or 17" MacBook Pros. …More

What power cord adapter can we use for both a 13" Macbook and a 17" Macbook Pro?
- Asked by KP from SAINT LOUIS PARK
- 08-Oct-2009
Best Answer
You can use a 85w adapter for both, because the MacBook can have the voltage regulated from 85w down to 60 for it to be compatible. You can NOT use the 60w on the MacBook pro. So just get the 85w for both. :) …More
