It's possible that a previous buyer did not calibrate his battery the very first time he charged it up. This is what happened with me. I charged it and then used the ibook with the power adapter plugged in not allowing the battery to run down. Wrong!! I should have let the battery run down under normal use and then charged it right up again just the one time. This is a normal proceedure with rechargable batteries but easy to overlook and at £89.00 for a replacement an expensive mistake. …More

I did calibrate my battery, and was also very careful to never leave the charger plugged in once fully charged (I was warned by another mac owner), even so after 3 years the battery can no longer run longer than 5 minutes. I have since been told that I should have shut down my ibook each night and not leave it on sleep even when I'm using it every day - but I'm pretty sure this contradicts the mac instructions. I think that if you own an ibook you have to accept forking out for a new battery after a few years. (I'm pretty sick of resetting the clock from 1970 every time the power dies too). …More

i have only had my ibook for 2 years so am pretty annoyed that I have to fork out £90 for a new battery.
The old one now lasts approx 5 minutes before the laptop dies!

but it does the trick. I've run my battery into the ground, kept it on charge way after it's fully charged and generally not followed the instructions - after 3 years it will still run for about 3 1/2 or 4 hours (depending on what I'm doing). I'm looking for a second battery to make sure I can continue using my iBook for a long time to come and while it seems possible to get some 3rd party batteries for half the price I'm reminded that if it appears to good to be true.... …More

I've had my 14" iBook for over two years now and did all the right maintenance discharges at the start. Even with airport and a bluetooth mouse running it still lasts almost two hours on the battery and ive had it plugged in for most of its use which i know reduces battery life. £89 is a bit pricey but worth it really. Worth the investment …More

They should really just put the price of the wretched ibook up 90£, since the battery it comes with will last about 1-2 years, absolute tops. Then it won't even last >1 minute when it isn't plugged directly in. And 90£ for a BATTERY? Captive market. Especially when you think that the chargers are £55. Horrific. …More

Yes it will, however it will be a different colour (the iBook G3 is translucent, while the iBook G4 and the battery are opaque white. It will fit snugly and work perfectly though. …More
