    Need Windows? Get a Mac (and Parallels 8)

    OK, I have been a MS Windows power user since Win3.0! and have always stayed with it as I use Windows apps and OS's for work as well as home use, I work in IT.

    I have for a long time longed for a PC which works efficiently and quickly, but I also wanted a lighht, portable one, so the Macbook Air was the obvious choice, if I could give up Windows... whihc I couldn't, and then along comes Parallels 8.

    I am amazed by the way that I can run Windows applications alongside Mac ones without having to choose between the two OS's. I can continue to use windows apps that I already have license for, and any new ones I buy, I can get the Mac version.

    My new MacBook Air is very fast and the OS does not take up the entire system resources, it is incredible to run alongside my previous windows PC, which was not too slow, but is left standing by this.

    I have only found a couple of rarer applications that don't run fine in Windows and I beleive this to be more of an issue with Win8 than it is with Parallels.

    If you are thinking of a Mac, but need some windows apps, there is now no excuse, just do it! The transition from Windows to Mac is as easy as it could possibly be.     …More

    The best of both worlds

    I have no axe to grind at all in the Microsoft/Apple debate. However, having been a Microsoft user since my time began, I then bought an iMac a year ago, which I am delighted with.

    However, there was a particular set of software that was only designed for Microsoft that I needed to run. A friend recommended Parallels and the problem was solved. If only I had known this before going out and buying a full set of Microsoft Office for Mac!! Never mind.

    I originally purchased Parallels 7 and then more recently upgraded to Parallels 8. Something did go wrong, probably something I did. But, the response from the Parallels team was exceptional. The problem was resolved and Parallels is once again the perfect solution for my Microsoft requirements on iMac.

    seamless integration with Mac OS, they've improved things in this version as well, doesn't drain the CPU as much, and is a lot quicker than v7. Very impressive product, does it exactly what it's supposed to do - I went to v7 from Fusion, and it just upgraded my Windows VM, I didn't even realise it was going to do that. …More

    Fast, works as advertisted

    I use Parallels to run various Windows utilities and occasionally Visual Studio on my Macbook Air. VS performance is acceptable for occasional debugging etc. (I've not installed a native Windows environment to check on that hardware, but I doubt it would make a great dev machine!) The latest version seems to sorts out various window priority issues I had with older versions, and it now works faultlessly. Highly recommended. …More
