Reviews for iPad Smart Case - Polyurethane - Dark Grey

After spending too much money buying various cases for my iPad made by 3rd parties, which turned out to be unsuitable for one reason or another, I was pleased to find out that Apple had finally produced a case that will cover the front and back of my iPad.

I bought the dark grey version immediately and don't regret it. I was a bit concerned because some reviewers were claiming the iPad 2 didnt fit the case properly but I find it to be a great fit (theres no way its falling out).

It has a soft touch, grippy, feel but it doesn't feel cheap and rubbery. It is very lightweight and slim, which is the main thing for me as I found previous cases to be bulky and heavy.

I really like that the volume and sleep keys are covered by the case and that the case features 'buttons' for them. I always found reaching these buttons abit of a fiddle to get to on previous cases.

My only complaint is I wish they had produced one in black, but the dark grey case does look nice on my black iPad.

Also, I dont find the edges to be particularly sharp as other reviewers have stated, but perhaps I hold my iPad differently.

All in all, very happy!

There is nothing wrong with the case at all apart from one issue. The issue being the sharp, uncomfortable edges. The very edges of the iPad Smart Case are uncomfortable whilst holding and dig into your hands making it uncomfortable to hold for periods of time. It's like Apple thought of everything you would need from a case and got it right but then didn't design it with any ergonomics in mind! I love Apple products but would not have brought this case had I known the issue before buying one. Apple please just round off the edges!

The concept is great, A smart cover with a back. It does the same features well. It protects the iPad and keeps it clean.

My problem is that Apple's keen eye for detail seems to have slipped somewhat.

The bonded edges between the back cover and the surround have visible fraying and discoloration along 90% of the edges. The holes for the camera, silence switch, headphone jack, dock and mic also have a discolored finish, and rough edges, which I can only think has come from a punch system used in manufacturing. They are minor details, but for the price and the brand?

I would expect something for half the price from a third rate manufacturer.

Have tried several cases for my iPads over the years and can honestly say this is by far the best on the market in my opinion. Had mine several months now and it does "what it says on the tin" so to speak. Everything lines up perfectly i.e. holes for earphones; camera etc and makes a great stable stand as described. Would recommend.

My wife has a Smart Cover for her iPad, works a treat, so when I saw they did a smart case in dark grey I decided to get one.

I shouldn't have, it adds a good 10mm to the top and sides making it feel bulky, it has a deep lip from the edge to the screen, as already mentioned, the cover doesn't stay closed when resting on the hinged edge, forget turning it upside down as the cover just slowly slides down under it's own weight then flops open.

The stand folded, it doesn't keep the iPad in place and tends to spring out flattening the tilt of the screen.

Again, seeing as Apple make the camera connection kit for the iPad, you'd think they'd make the dock connector big enough to fit, it doesn't and if you do squeeze it in the polyurethane spits it back out.

Sorry Apple, you need to take this one back to the drawing board. Too many design faults and much better Smart Cover and 3rd party back cover combinations available to make this worth considering, wish I had read the reviews first.

Quite disappointed with this, I've still given it 3 stars, as it does protect the iPad well. Unfortunately I like to play games, especially racing games and the sharp protruding edges are too annoying whilst playing.

I love the soft grippy feel of the case and it's not bulky at all, so why the horrid sticky out edges Apple??

Thankfully Apples returns policy means I can send it back and I'll try another style of case. Love my iPad 4 though :)

I've had this case for around a month now and it's done a great job. It was only tonight though that I tested it fully. Firstly I left my iPad on the roof of my car outside in -3°C temp. the case seemed to protect it fully and it is still working. Secondly though, I actually drove for away from my house and the iPad spent around 10mins on the roof. When I finally found it on the roof at the end of my journey I was very happy to find it sitting there safe and sound! So, not only is it a good everyday case, I can confirm that it also allows you to safe space in your car and leave it on your roof. It'll be safe. Don't worry.

From the opening of the packaging to placing the iPad securely into the case, everything went well with the iPad Smart Case. I've got the 3rd Generation iPad - it slots neatly into the case and is held securely by the bezel - notice the iPad is actually held 'into' the case, not just around it. I also chose free engraving - which came out perfectly. All ports are cut out properly and there are even 'dotted perforations' for the speaker - precision made! Overall - a great case designed for iPad, and made by Apple.

I wanted a case rather than just a cover for the front, but I wish I had just got the cover and bought a case for the back somewhere else. It feels loose on my iPad though it isn't in any danger of falling out. However, the sides of the case come up above the surface of the iPad so dust or crumbs collect around the edges, or fall inside the case (as it isn't a tight fit), as you can't brush them off.
It also makes the iPad seem bigger because it comes up towards the front at an angle instead of hugging the sides. In addition to this it is fiddly to actually lift the cover up because the case comes out further than the cover all round, you need to have decent finger nails to get under the cover to lift it.
The cover does the job of covering, but for typing it is too shallow an angle, and for watching TV it is very precarious, just a small tap of the screen knocks it over.

Very disappointed, particularly as they are SO expensive compared to other brands. Would have got 2 stars but the price knocks it down to 1.
