How do noise isolating earphones like the B&W fare on airplanes? Is noise cancelling preferable?

B&W on airplanes--better than Bose?

    Have been flying a lot for work recently - 30 flights since march. My Bose Quietcomforts give better sound quality on a plane; the noise of the engines loses the base on the P5s whilst the quietcomforts keep it.
    Its not a huge effect it just sounds better; i also have etymotics E4P and would rate on a plane Bose > Etymotic > P5

    That said off the plane the P5's sound much better than bose; and etymotic more discreet when moving around foreign cities

  • I think they perform great, but perhaps noise cancelling headphones like the Bose QC15's would be marginally better for flying.
    Personally i'm a frequent flyer, and I'm very happy with my P5's. When listening to movies, music etc, they remove almost all background noise. If you want to use them for sleeping, then being able to keep the headphones on with noise cancelling turned on is something that the P5's can't compete with.
    In terms of sound quality, I think the P5's are better than any active noise cancelling headphones i've heard, and would heartily recommend them.
