This product Killed my MacBook Air

I plugged it in and it froze my MacBook Air, on reboot my SSD drive was dead!! The Mac is now a Brick! Previously the Firewire Adaptor also froze the OS but I managed to recover the SSD that time with Disk Utility. I have posed this review a couple of days ago, but its been removed so here it is again.

I bought this item for a MBA 13'' (Late 2012) . Upon plugging it into the MBA and network, it worked straight away . It is far quicker than wireless and in the few hours that I've used it non-stop it hasn't caused any problems . I consider this to have been an excellent purchase and well worth the £25 price tag .

Does not work properly in Windows 8 with BootCamp 5

Using this device in Windows 8 results in the Sleep States being disabled due to poorly written Apple Bootcamp Drivers. If you need this to work in Windows don't buy.

    Very fast but.... (rMBP)

It is a very fast adapter, bought it for my rMBP to use at uni. the issue is that it falls out VERY easily, which is somewhat of an issue for me. when working at a desk its fine, but at other times it gets knocked even just a little and it disconnects and takes a while to reconnect. This is annoying!

Wicked Fast, but needs to be on power!

I thought I had a faulty one, as on my MacBook Air it didn't work - it randomly came up as a thunderbolt device, but no ethernet, or not at all.

I then tried it on power, and "pop" - it just worked, as expected... and it is very, very fast. copying files onto the Air with it's SSD I was getting a nice solid 45Mb a second.

This is now part of my carry around kit for the laptop - excellent when you need a little more "oomph" than you can get with the Wireless.

Works great! (But don't buy it for MBA!!!)

Why? This is nothing wrong with the product at all and it works great! The problem is... if you are using Macbook Air and you need to connect to extra monitor with thunderbolt you are out of luck. Either have this or the thunderbolt to DVI/HDMI adpter. I never thought of this until I bought it went home and had the "Ahhhh moment". Get the USB version instead. If you never care about extra monitor ever at all or you don't need to do presentation on bigger screens then sure go ahead.

Try checking for a Thunderbolt update if it doesn't work

When I first plugged the Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter into my Macbook Air nothing showed up in the Network Preferences. Tried rebooting, etc. but nothing.

Luckily I had a wireless connection available so tried Software Update and lo and behold there was a Thunderbolt Update available. Installed that and rebooted and the adapter worked perfectly.

    Macbook air 2011

Initially I couldn't get this to work as even though it was showing as connected in the system report and I could see the port on my network switch was up OSX was not seeing the adapter as a network interface.

In the end I fixed it by downloading Thunderbolt update 1.21 from the apple site (software update claimed no updates available)

I would have posted the link but it seems the review system won't actually let me.

    Excellent addition to my Mid-2011 MacBook Air 13'' i5 4GB-RAM 128GB.
I did install the Thunderbolt update from Software Update before first using this adapter, but all works fine, great product and good use of thunderbolt connectivity, about time such an adapter exists.
Simply plugged it in to an ethernet cable and it worked instantly. I turned off wifi before first using just as a precautionary measure, to prevent any glitches or hiccups etc. after reading a few negative experiences first using this adapter, but all is fine.
All we need now is a thunderbolt to thunderbolt x 4 hub or a thunderbolt splitter to take full advantage of the blazing fast speeds offered.
