Macbook Pro or iMac
So I already have a Macbook Pro, but the thing is it currently runs on Leopard. I bought this 15 in Macbook Pro when Leopard first came out, so it has some years under its belt. Also, it is a little banged up and has a couple malfunctions and complications, but overall as my only computer it seems to work just fine.
Now my parents are willing to get me a new Macbook Pro with all new upgrades and features on it, but that would mean I would have a Macbook Pro OS X 10.5 and Macbook Pro OS X 10.8. Which to me seems a little redundant since I can order Snow Leopard and just upgrade to Mountain Lion.
Or my parents are willing to get me an iMac 27-in 2.7 GHz which is something I've wanted for a while now, but obviously this computer doesn't have portability. So would you get another Macbook Pro 15-in 2.3 GHz that is basically newer or iMac 27-in 2.7 GHz? Anything I might be overlooking that could change my mind?

Your answer depends entirely on your needs. Do you need a mac desktop? If so then buy the iMac. Do you plan on travelling a lot or just going out frequently where you need a laptop? then a 15 inch macbook pro is the better buy.
One piece of information worth noting is the software itself. When OSX 10.7 came out, rosetta was completely removed from the operating system. If you use powerpc software, it will no longer work in 10.7 or 10.8. For that reason alone it may be worth keeping your old macbook and just getting an iMac.- Answered by Kevin L from Markham
