Did not Protect my IPad At all.

    • Written by from Redfern

IPad was inside the case which was inside inside my bag. Dropped my bag when i was standing up getting something out of it, and now my pad has a massive dint on the corner. Don't expect a "sturdy" design, the only thing is it going to protect your IPad from is scratches.

    Not worth the money

    • Written by from Grantham

We bought this case for our ipad and were initially very impressed. We wanted a decent level of protection as we were moving to Australia and wanted to take our ipad on the plane etc without worrying. Our case has completely fallen apart and is now absolutely useless. For the amount we paid I expected it to last longer. We took it to our local Australian Apple shop who said they have seen this before but couldn't help us as the case was bought in the UK, pretty disappointed. Wouldn't recommend unless you are looking for something short term.

    HORRIBLE case

    • Written by from acworth

What a fail in my opinion. I was excited that they put a back on it, and it has potential, but they made a mess of it. It's SUPER flimsy and bendy, and feels like it has the potential to get torn up in days. The inside is very soft, which I love, as is the outside... but then they added this 1/4" lip to the whole back, that feels SO rough on the hands it's like they forgot to finish it. The rest of the case is smooth, and then the edges feel like a hard plastic packaging that wasn't filed down. Awful to hold. I know they made the lip so that the cover would lay flush to the case, which I guess was to prevent if from flopping open, but all it does is make it difficult and annoying to get open, and the back just flops around when not in use. Terrible design. Stick with what you know, Apple. Throw this one in the dumper.

Original iPad case was bad. No change.

    • Written by from Swindon

The original ipad case wouldn't allow you to use a dock because of protruding seams. This new case is just as bad - no worse. Sharp edges, loose fitting and the plastic welding around the connector hole has started separating. So it is only a matter if time before it falls apart completely. Shame apple corp doesn't spend as much time designing accessories as they do on slick UI. Won't buy an Apple case again. Very poor.

    Not a quality product!

    • Written by from chorleywood

If you decide to spend a few hundred pounds on an ipad retina then you would think a genuine Apple case would protect it? Wrong!!
This case is just awful. It doesn't fit snuggly around the device, It bows out around both sides so essentially the ipad is only held by the top and bottom. The edges of the case are quite sharp so if used for a period of time then it becomes uncomfortable.
I would advise against anyone purchasing this product. Very disappointed.

    BUYER BEWARE! This case blows!

    • Written by from Millburn

I bought an iPad with Retina Display when they were first released (3rd Gen., already had a 2nd Gen.), from the website and ordered this case with it. I requested both case and iPad personalized, (very nice laser etch, by the way). I ordered black 64GB with Verizon but got 32GB with WiFi. Not happy. Personalized and unreturnable... I have kept it and it did what I asked of it. Connecting to my iPhone, same thing for the most part. But wanted to use iPad for video stream and GPS, keeping iPhone available. Only AT&T allows talk and use of data at the same time, in USA and I use Verizon. Because everyone that has it knows that AT&T really s*&ks!

About the case. I bought a Product Red version, personalized as I said.

    1. The case has never stayed properly shut. The magnets just don't keep it closed. It has gotten worse over the year that I have had it. Same problem as the Smart Cover, (I have a gray Smart Cover).

    2. Rolling into a stand was a cool idea. I was hoping that Apple had improved on the Smart Cover, whose magnetic hinge NEVER STAYED PUT. Well, new problems arose with the newer design. It wouldn't stand securely in the tall position and it would droop in the low position.

    3. The case started to fall apart within weeks. The bottom seam started to peal apart.

4.The material the case is made of seems to attract dirt. Cleaning it is no big deal, but come on.

    5. I have ended up using it as secondary protection, keeping the iPad with the Smart Case on in a separate zippered sleeve case. Which is exactly the opposite of what I wanted when I bought the Smart Case. A simple and elegant, integrated solution. It turned out to be anything but...

I will be buying an Apple iPad Mini Retina with Verizon service and 128GB, very soon. I won't be buying another Smart Case. LifeProof's NUUD seems to make more sense even though it's going to cost me more that twice as much... I don't really know why I care. I bought Apple Care as always, yet never have had to use it..

    Short on Durability

After 18 months the seal that binds the top and bottom of my iPad Smart Case began to separate. I would expect that a fifty dollar case would longer with normal daily use.

    Terrible - waste of money

    • Written by from Sudbury

I'm the most careful user of anything!

However, this so-called 'Smart' case if far from adequate. At £40, I expect more than 6 months usage from it. The folding design doesn't give enough of a base for the iPad to stand-up on, meaning it's top-heavy and falls over.

The fabric lining has come away from the actual inside bits, so it looks extremely tatty, and offers no screen protection any more. The poly edges have also discoloured and dog-eared. It also shows up so many stains - it's disgusting! I can't imagine what it must look like if it was an unclean person using it!

The case has sagged away from the hinge meaning the magnets no longer line up properly, rendering the automatic on/off function useless. I found that out the hard way when I shut the cover, came back hours later to find the battery had gone dead as it had been on all that time!

The cover leaves streaks of grease on the iPad screen which looks horrid. It also causes more scratch damage than it stops... They way the cover folds back on itself to stand up, means the *inside* of it is standing on the surface. Therefore any grit, dirt, crumbs etc. that are on the surface will stick to the cover, and in turn scratch against the screen on closing. You can tell when this has happened, as the scratches are perfectly straight, and parallel to the edges etc.

The cover doesn't actually provide much protection. A slight tap on the corner of the device caused the screen to crack - something that the cover should really have protected it from.

Then there's the damage it does to the back. Not only a build-up of dirt, but actually rubbing off the silver-coloured anodized back of the iPad. Mine has horrible superficial wears all along the edge, as well as two severely deep gouges that are now almost a black colour.

All in all, I suggest strongly avoiding this case. Go for a cheaper alternative, even if it means replacing it a dozen times! Still be cheaper than this.

    Very Disappointing!

I loved the case when I first purchased it in red, but it was short lived. Aside from the fact that it didn't quite fit as snug as it should have, it fell apart within such a short time. The lip that goes around the front of the iPad screen had become completely unglued from the back of the case. For this price, it should have at least lasted a tad bit longer. Not only do I deeply regret this purchase, but I should have held onto the receipt. What a waste.

It's an overpriced product with lot flaws. The edge of the under cover is quite sharp which makes hands very uncomfortable to hold it. The top cover is so difficult to lift, you need to use your nail to open it. £39 is not worth it.

    Not sturdy for classroom use.

    • Written by from Hatboro

I purchased this cover to hold my school appointed iPad but I am disappointed with the quality. I have had this case since June and was first pleased with it's slim design. I appreciated it being light weight since I carry it around as I teach. Last night, I put the iPad in my book bag in what I thought was a safe manner. However at school, I noticed the cover was bent and appears to be separating. I expected an Apple product to be able to handle general classroom use considering it's high cost. I will not recommend this case for our classroom set of iPads.

Although it completely covers the ipad which is supposed to offer full protection for the screen and body, yet it gets very dirty easily, it is not will aligned with the ipad dimensions and buttons, by time the ipad falls out of the case easily which offers poor protection if the ipad is flipped or fall on the ground.
    I don't recommend buying it.
the only thing that makes me believe that this is an Apple product is its price

This is a very expensive case and I really was hoping it would be fantastic but I was very disappointed. The ipad 4 just fit into it. The corners were very hard to get to click around the device. When you went to hold it and folded back the smart cover, the side rolled off of the ipad. When you held it in both hands both the sides would roll off. It is padded so will protect the back and sides of the ipad but if the cover keeps slipping off to where you can't trust it at all and the ipad falls out - it's not worth the money invested. It's a shame. I think I would rather have had the back part of the case a harder material than the softer rubber. Hopefully Apple will redesign this case and make it worth the price they are asking.

I use my iPad all the time. I bought this case in January and by March the magnetic parts no longer worked and it never stayed closed. When I had the case open it also never stuck to the back of the iPad. This case is not worth what you will spend on it. I have found several other cases that are cheaper and work much better.

    So bad bad bad...

    • Written by from Kilkivan

The case looks nice, but there is one huge problem - you simply can't hold it! All of the edges are so sharp, they dig into your hands or fingers or palms after only a few seconds. In store you don't realize this, (apple refuse to let you 'try' the case, as the sharp edges become apparent almost immediately). I love my ipad, but this case is a joke.

Don't buy for the ipad2, it doesn't fit - its clearly made for newer ipad sizes, even though they say it is compatible with the ipad 2 (rubbish).

    Epic epic fail :(

This product is just awful. I had an urge to buy it, so I did. I have the iPad 4, and the case fits very loose. The stand is not so good. It wiggles back and forth. The polyurethane gets dirty so quickly. I got mine only a couple months ago and the glue adhesive is completely off. Some positive things about the case is that it covers the iPad well, which should be minimal considering the circumstances. This case is not worth $50, I've seen much better ones that cost a lot less than that. You should not buy this at all. I'll be a big waste of your money.

The Smart Case is just that, a Case. I have to agree with other reviews, it does not close properly all the time, and almost all the time you want to stand up the iPad, it falls back. I purchased this based on the fact that Apple makes great accessories, but this time they failed.

    Quite Unhappy

    • Written by from Hilo

I have had this case for several months and am just disappointed. It gets dirty very quickly. It is loose, so a lot of debris and dirt gets trapped between the case and the iPad. The looseness of the case also makes it difficult to plug in the charger and occasionally covers the camera lens slightly. The typing angle isn't high enough, and the movie viewing angle is so wobbly that it has fell on its screen several times, because the table was slightly bumped. The cover doesn't stay securely attached to the back of the iPad case when open, which is one of the most annoying aspects. The edges of the case is sharp, which would look and feel better if they were smooth, and the glue on the edges of mine is already separating from the case.

One thing I do like is the look of it when it is closed, but that is pretty much it. More color options would be nice, like black.

Overall, is it worth the cost? No. Would I buy another? Not really, unless it was about $5-10.
